Where does Ms. Chesney get all of these plots? Sweet Masquerade is another classic Marion Chesney Regency romance, so entertaining and fun reading.

Anyone ever curious about post-Civil War Texas will love this book!

What a phenomenal book from Mr. Jerry P. Orange! This book has a bit of everything in it. It is a true western adventure. I would even go so far as to say that this is the start of the grown up version of the "Little House on the Prairie" series! Everyone interested in what it was like living in Texas in the late eighteen-sixties would absolutely love this book! And, it continues on with the second book "Texas Yankee Honeymoon".

When we first meet our protagonist, Joshua Granger, he had been a boy having lived half of his life in Texas, after fleeing his brother's farm in Kentucky. When war breaks out, he follows his instincts and does what he feels is the right thing and fights for the union. However, the war is over and he is rereading a letter from his sweetheart back home in Texas, who wants to marry him. Next, he has to get there, even if it means getting past ex-confederates, bandits, and Comanche Indians. The same goes for living on the land. And, we mustn't forget Mr. and Mrs. Smith, his sweetheart's parents plus her brothers, who both fought for the Confederate side.

This book takes you through a lot of places, people, and things. If you have ever been interested in the old West and what homesteading comprised of, you will be in for a surprise! The plot is solid, the setting is spectacular. You will love the characters. And be begging for more at the book's end.

Grim--not my favorite.

This was my least favorite book from this author. The heroine was not very likable and made stupid decisions every five seconds. Sex trafficking does not make a lighthearted read. I was glad when it was over.

My favorite series from this author are The School for Manners and The Poor Relation. Those were funny and lighthearted. This one was grim. If I wanted grim, I would not be reading this genre.

Fun but Loaded with Hero/Heroine Misunderstandings

The plot of Dancing on the Wind is a good one -- beautiful girl (Polly) abandoned at birth searches for answers and confronts self-serving villains along the way, also must deal with a well-intentioned but haughty love interest. I liked the rising action, the tension, and I thought the descriptions were fun. I get frustrated, though, with books in which the hero and heroine move along the tense, suspenseful path (prior to their happy union which we all hope is coming) and seem to constantly misunderstand one another. In this book I felt that the author went too far with this device. I also felt that Polly could have been made more likeable --- her morals seemed very malleable, even after a lot of important life-lessons.

An unlikeable heroine

I have read so many of Marion Chesney's books and loved every one, except this one.

I just couldn't warm to Polly. Her attraction to folly kept annoying me.

Because I just didn't like the main character, I found it hard to like the whole story.

Adequate but dark

Story is darker than her other books. Definitely not a lighthearted romance.

Another fun read!

Mario n Chesney's books are like taking a vacation. Witty, light and filled with anecdotes. Once again I had fun in her world.

I'm surprised that this book was rated low, it definitely a five star? It's a funny and clean historical romance, a truly enjoyable story.

Fun Story

A true Regency romance . . Marion Chesney is such a talented storyteller. Her description of the wickedly, shallow Regency era makes me glad that that time has passed, but her handsome, arrogant hero and spoiled, beautiful heroine manage to meander through it. Of course, it helps to be extremely rich and at the top of the social order. This is a fun story.

M.C. Beaton my fav

I loved this cute story. I love almost anything by M.C. Beaton. Especially her Agatha Raisin stories. These are about as good.

most stilted dialogue ever

The lead characters have *maybe* a thimble of warmth and spark. The storyline was a snooze. Wish I hadn't purchased the book or wasted my time reading it.
