When the boy entrusted to an earl is really a girl, the complications are delightful.

The 10th earl of Berham does not know what to do. An attractive 32-year-old bachelor, he has been appointed guardian of the young Freddie Armstrong, the 18-year-old grandson of his late father's dear friend. That's bad enough. Then he discovers that the boy is really a girl! It is against all convention and against his personal code to keep a young lady concealed in his own home. He must find a solution.

The earl's frequent visitor, Lady Clarissa Rennenord, heartily agrees - but for less noble reasons. Lady Clarissa hopes to snare the earl in marriage and does not want any competition. She recommends that Freddie be sent to a seminary. No one but Lady Rennenord knows what a horrid place it is - and no one, including Lady Rennenord, expects Freddie to escape. Now Freddie is back, and the earl finds her presence unsettling in more ways than one.

Very amusing and enjoyable romantic romp in 19th century England.

Very amusing and enjoyable romantic romp in 19th century England. Unpredictable and predictable plot twists, powerful heroes and penniless heroines turn the manners and mores of gentry and nobility on its scandalized ears..

Repetitive story and short

This book is too short to be sold as a book. The situations are so silly that they are not even laughable. T

Entertaining

Where does Ms. Chesney get all of these plots? Sweet Masquerade is another classic Marion Chesney Regency romance, so entertaining and fun reading.

great story, so romantic!

One of the best, where does this imagination come from? A vastley creative mind, that's what

M.C. Beaton is my favorite author of all time

Good reading for the second time

Fun and funny.....Marion Chesney at her best. Lots of villains combined with a sweet love story. Of course, love wins out in the end.

Title: Texas Yankee: Homecoming

Author: Jerry P Orange

Narrator: J Rodney Turner

Format: Unabridged

Length: 8 hrs and 52 mins

Language: English

Release date: 01-21-16

Publisher: Jerry Orange

Genres: Romance, Historical

Publisher's Summary:

Texas Yankee: Homecoming is an adventurous love story set in Central Texas during the turbulent years following the Civil War.

After fighting in the Yankee Cavalry, Joshua Granger returns to Texas to marry beautiful Sarah Lynn Smith in spite of the fact that one of her Confederate brothers has tried to kill him. Joshua and Sarah refuse to let anything stop them from becoming man and wife in this dramatic tale of triumph.

A hopeful love letter from Sarah sets Joshua on an unusual journey from Kentucky to Texas in early 1866. With a couple of good horses and some big ideas, he leaves the security of family and inheritance behind for the love of a strong woman on the Texas frontier.

In Arkansas, Joshua takes on the responsibility of a mentally challenged orphan and is saddled with two wagons full of prostitutes who need a guide to Dallas. In the meantime, Sarah is planning their wedding in spite of her mother's protests while she waits anxiously for Joshua's return.

Upon arrival in Georgetown, Texas, Joshua finds that he is unwelcome in the community, and marrying Sarah is not the foregone conclusion he expected it to be. The next year is filled with the humor and hardship of homesteading a ranch, fighting Comanche and outlaws, breaking wild horses, catching and branding wild cattle, and hunting buffalo. In between the work, Joshua tries to fulfill the obligations of courtship as required by Sarah's family before they will bless her marriage to the Yankee. The gritty realism, the heartache, and the laughter that go into making this frontier family bring Reconstruction Era Texas to life.

Anyone ever curious about post-Civil War Texas will love this book!

What a phenomenal book from Mr. Jerry P. Orange! This book has a bit of everything in it. It is a true western adventure. I would even go so far as to say that this is the start of the grown up version of the "Little House on the Prairie" series! Everyone interested in what it was like living in Texas in the late eighteen-sixties would absolutely love this book! And, it continues on with the second book "Texas Yankee Honeymoon".

When we first meet our protagonist, Joshua Granger, he had been a boy having lived half of his life in Texas, after fleeing his brother's farm in Kentucky. When war breaks out, he follows his instincts and does what he feels is the right thing and fights for the union. However, the war is over and he is rereading a letter from his sweetheart back home in Texas, who wants to marry him. Next, he has to get there, even if it means getting past ex-confederates, bandits, and Comanche Indians. The same goes for living on the land. And, we mustn't forget Mr. and Mrs. Smith, his sweetheart's parents plus her brothers, who both fought for the Confederate side.

This book takes you through a lot of places, people, and things. If you have ever been interested in the old West and what homesteading comprised of, you will be in for a surprise! The plot is solid, the setting is spectacular. You will love the characters. And be begging for more at the book's end.

Thank you Mr. Jerry P. Orange and Word Slinger for giving me a copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review.

I particularly like the historical and technical detail which shows that the ...

I just finished both books in this series and will definitely read any more. It is a welcome change from the "All action, all the time" novels...

Publisher's Summary:

From the prolific M. C. Beaton, a Regency romance where love flourishes in the most unexpected places.

From the top of his flawlessly groomed head to the waxed tips of his fashionable shoes, Lord Andrew Childe was every inch the perfect gentleman. But Andrew's arrogant composure was almost always shattered by the impertinent Penelope Mortimer, an achingly lovely country beauty who had a clear knack for ruffling his lordship's feathers. Her nose for trouble seemed to land Lord Andrew in the most awkward situations - and love itself quickly became the most delicate of them all!

Utter Drivel

I fully expect a regency romance to be light fluff, but this was ludicrous and slighly sickly in it's main characters actions. Urgh.

Title: Dancing on the Wind

Format: Unabridged

Length: 9 hrs and 17 mins

Language: English

Release date: 01-13-16

Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.

Genres: Romance, Historical

Publisher's Summary:

A unique spin on the romance genre from New York Times best-selling author Marion Chesney.

I am going to die, Polly thought. The crowd clamored for a speech. Polly raised her hands, and the crowd fell silent. From the foot of the gallows, she asked the spectators why she, a poor woman, should hang for theft while the abbess of Covent Garden could commit murder on the souls of innocent country girls over and over again and yet go free - and then she condemned them to hell.

Members Reviews:

Grim--not my favorite.

This was my least favorite book from this author. The heroine was not very likable and made stupid decisions every five seconds. Sex trafficking does not make a lighthearted read. I was glad when it was over.

My favorite series from this author are The School for Manners and The Poor Relation. Those were funny and lighthearted. This one was grim. If I wanted grim, I would not be reading this genre.

Fun but Loaded with Hero/Heroine Misunderstandings

The plot of Dancing on the Wind is a good one -- beautiful girl (Polly) abandoned at birth searches for answers and confronts self-serving villains along the way, also must deal with a well-intentioned but haughty love interest. I liked the rising action, the tension, and I thought the descriptions were fun. I get frustrated, though, with books in which the hero and heroine move along the tense, suspenseful path (prior to their happy union which we all hope is coming) and seem to constantly misunderstand one another. In this book I felt that the author went too far with this device. I also felt that Polly could have been made more likeable --- her morals seemed very malleable, even after a lot of important life-lessons.

An unlikeable heroine

I have read so many of Marion Chesney's books and loved every one, except this one.

I just couldn't warm to Polly. Her attraction to folly kept annoying me.

Because I just didn't like the main character, I found it hard to like the whole story.

Adequate but dark

Story is darker than her other books. Definitely not a lighthearted romance.

wonderful story

it was a great love story every one should read this book

s

also a great author i wii read more of her books

Another fun read!

Mario n Chesney's books are like taking a vacation. Witty, light and filled with anecdotes. Once again I had fun in her world.

The constant companion

I'm surprised that this book was rated low, it definitely a five star? It's a funny and clean historical romance, a truly enjoyable story.

A beautiful young miss challenges a powerful aristocrat in this historical romance by best-selling author Marion Chesney.

For lovely young Miss Patricia Patterson, life seemed a delightful dream - until the specter of her guardian, Lord Charles Gaunt, cast a shadow over her carefree days of idleness and enchanting evenings of dazzling balls and delicious flirtations. Lord Charles demanded she act the part of a proper and perfectly boring young miss. Even worse, he insisted she devote her waking hours to cultivating her mind rather than captivating her swarm of admirers. Thus the battle was joined - between the handsome, arrogant aristocrat who had Patricia in his lawful power and Patricia, who vowed to turn this hateful tyrant into her lovelorn slave.

Fun Story

A true Regency romance . . Marion Chesney is such a talented storyteller. Her description of the wickedly, shallow Regency era makes me glad that that time has passed, but her handsome, arrogant hero and spoiled, beautiful heroine manage to meander through it. Of course, it helps to be extremely rich and at the top of the social order. This is a fun story.

M.C. Beaton my fav

I loved this cute story. I love almost anything by M.C. Beaton. Especially her Agatha Raisin stories. These are about as good.

most stilted dialogue ever

The lead characters have *maybe* a thimble of warmth and spark. The storyline was a snooze. Wish I hadn't purchased the book or wasted my time reading it.

Five Stars

This author has some wonderful Regency stories and this was one of them.
