Critic Reviews:

"[A] classic, fun tale of a boy with a difference ... with its messages of acceptance, jealousy and good versus evil - in the modern world." (Kids Book Review)

Members Reviews:

Easy listening but not hugely memorable

Once they'd got over the initial interest of being flat, my two sons (aged 5 & 7) didn't seem all that bothered about this book. The stories are perhaps a little too predictable. Some laugh out loud funny bits, but these were few & far between.

They were however quite happy to listen to them, and did not end up fighting despite being stuck in heavy traffic.

awful

these terrible children! they are so mean! they deserved to get baked into bread! it rhymes, which is nice for figuring out pronunciation on some of the words i don't recognize. i don't know much german, but the illustrations tell a compelling story.

Childhood memories

Like most German children I read and loved this German Classic book almost 70years ago. It is amazing how familiar it still is. And besides one cannot beat the price; and even in color on my Kindle Fire! Nobody who went to grade school in Germany should pass up this jewel.

Great book! Read it as a child

Max und Moritz - Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen: Vollständige und kolorierte Fassung (Wilhelm Busch bei Null Papier 1) (German Edition)Great book! Read it as a child, but it's a pretty funny read for a grown-up.

Delightfully subversive!

A cruel tale of two young sociopaths and the elaborate pranks they play upon unsuspecting townsfolk. Brilliant, timeless illustrations illuminate the fun. I love to read this aloud, even though I don't actually speak German.

Max & Moritz

I grew up with the stories of those two guys and purchased the book for my grandchildren who live in the US. Considering the price I expected a sturdy book which would survive some not so careful little fingers.

Their older brother has moved out of the house in disgust. Which leaves them open to suggestion when a local boxing promoter signs them up for illegal bouts. But it's more than the meagre winnings that draws the two brothers in. Soon they find themselves fighting for something else. Is it pride? Love? Or just the experience of winning for once? A knockout debut from the front lines of a family's recession.

Members Reviews:

Fun to read

Cute book about two young brothers who were close but competitive. They managed to get into boxing to earn money without their parents finding out. I liked the love between siblings.

A Tale of Two Brothers

Markus Zusak's first book is a brilliant tale of the Wolfe family. Narrator Cameron and his older brother Ruben take up boxing in an underground racket, and while Cameron is not a great boxer, he has heart. By the conclusion of the novel, Cameron has proven to everyone that he is just as much a Wolfe as his undefeated brother. And Ruben has discovered that there's something to fighting more than just winning.

This book is the most realistic tale of brotherhood I have ever read. Zusak shows what it truly means to be family, to be wolves, to be brothers.

A very dull book with no substance, wouldn't recommend it.

Very disappointing, the plot is middle of the road and rather predictable. I was suprised as i had read The Book Thief and thought it a very unique book, this is actually why i purchased Fighting Ruben Wolfe.

Meh

Not one of his best books, but still a good read. I liked the Book Thief a lot better but it was still pretty good.

Five Stars

Great read
