    EMPIRE OR COLONY?
The fortress is completely built, it's time to build ships, but
The Earth stopped communicating with Riggs
He has terrible personnel problems, he has only 300 men
And all his neighbors, damn Crustaceans, Blues and Crow are plotting against him,
The question is who friend and who is foe?
    PS
Sometimes I think it is The Only Original Sci-Fi series
Next book is "Annihilation" and I hope it will available very soon!
This is one of the best sci fi series ever
Would you consider the audio edition of Empire to be better than the print version?
I like the audio version because I am on the move a lot at work and at home so it's easier for me to listen and it's particularly nice when you have a great performer with a good vioce. That's the case with this series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Kyle Riggs. He is the everyman. He is not a super scientist or a super spy or a super warrior. He is just an ordinary guy thrown into a meat grinder of a situation and he roe to it.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I really liked the space station. The thought of actually being out there.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
In this series there were many emmorable moments. In this edition, I would have to say when he sent the trator general packing and destroyed his satalites.
    Any additional comments?
I hope there are many more books to come for this series, aditionally I hope the Larson comes out with more scifi like this.
    Have some escapist fun
If you could sum up Empire in three words, what would they be?
    Action, fun action
What did you like best about this story?
    It never slowed down.
Which character as performed by Mark Boyett was your favorite?
The little robot marvin is funny insightful and a great addition to the story.
    Any additional comments?
I highly recomend that this whole series be listened to. It is escapist, action packed fun. It could make a great movie series.
    Heart-pounding adventure
B V Larson's Star Force series has become the standard by which I judge all military sci-fi.
This is book 6 in the series and if you're not on board yet, YOU ARE REALLY MISSING OUT! I just finished and I'm sort of in an overwhelmed shocked state of being. SOOO much happened. There wasn't a dull moment.

    Better than Book 1
Book 2 in the series is even better than book 1, and you get to the action much quicker; Currie is obviously getting better at his craft as he goes! Despite a few minor things, I enjoyed this book a lot!
I don't know if its the writing, or the Narration (I suspect it's the narrator), but every member of the Bridge Crew on every ship in the story sounds terrified every time they speak to someone with a higher rank... the stuttering and stammering that goes on in response to EVERY question put to them, and in EVERY report they give, is getting old, fast. Seems to me if you had a crew in vital positions that are this terrified of even speaking, you'd replace them with people who could actually get a report out in a timely, coherent, manner, without every sentence having to be dragged out of them.
There are places in the narration where sentence structure is broken up so badly, or paused in such an odd spot, that you have to back up to try to figure out what the author actually meant... But it's not too often, and you can work through it.
Those few things aside, the story moves along much faster than in the first book, the technical details are much improved and believable, and the "Tech-Talk" doesn't bog the story down at all... it's just enough to be interesting, and to enhance the story, without me feeling like the author is trying to tediously teach me how build the thing being described. A Lot of authors get WAY too caught up in trying to show how detailed their knowledge of some piece of physics or 'Tech' is... Currie deftly avoids that common mistake...
    I hope there is a Book 3, and I hope it's soon!
    Another winner
Book 2. This one continues right from where book 1 left off. Most of the book is space battles and ground combat. Must reed book 1, into the black, before this one and if you liked it you will like this one.
    Great Listen
Just as good as the first book. Good action, good sci-fi, alien worlds all the things you need to take you away from your life for a while listening. Its starting to get more interesting the more we learn about the Drasin and their allies.....
    And the plot builds!
    Any additional comments?
Evan Currie has really done a lot of great work here. The plot is advancing and moving significantly forward.

    Non-stop Sci-Fi Action
If you are looking for sci-fi that is fast-paced, fun, and incredibly interesting, I'd recommend the Star Force series for you. The author has carefully crafted a military sci-fi universe where new discoveries and surprises await, leaving the reader astonished at the depth of B.V. Larson's imagination.
Most sci-fi series that I have read have at least one book where things do not click, or the plot seems forced, or difficult to believe. In contrast, every book of this series is strong, and I keep thinking that the best one is the book I just finished.
Mark Boyett, the narrator, is quite amazing as he seamlessly switches his accent from one member of an international team to another to yet another. It adds an extra dimension of enjoyment over the text version of the books.
B.V. is the man, great story. Go Riggs Pigs!
I have one problem with this series, the stories are too short! Other than that,I love the originality that Larson brings to the table in each book. I can't wait for the next in the series.
At this point in the series my review won't do much for a new reader. To the veterans, this title is more of the same and continuation of a great saga. Don't hesitate to buy this book. Worth every credit.
    Furthers Story Line Well!
This book picks up the action well and keeps it going. Adds well to the story line and fills in many needed points. Ends without a major cliffhanger that will bother you all through the wait to the next book. Some real fun twists in this book and some of the usual characters from the previous books are missing for much of the book giving a break to the hero's comical love life. Over all a good solid book and addition to the series.
A good one, and an exciting ending
this book was very good.... i liked the twists in it and i liked and answers for te questions i had before...
But lets talk about the ending of this book .. don't worry i won't say anything that will make you hate me or something.... But the ending was really good.... how Larson decided to end this book gives so many possibilities for the next book.... each book before had a clear and expected beginning for the next book... but for this one I have no idea what will happen next .. too many possibilities!!
its a good and fun read like the other books...

The Talbots are evacuating their home amidst a zombie apocalypse. Mankind is on the edge of extinction as a new dominant, mindless opponent scours the landscape in search of food, which just so happens to be noninfected humans. This book follows the journey of Michael Talbot; his wife Tracy; and their three kids, Nicole, Justin, and Travis. Together they struggle against a ruthless, relentless enemy that has singled them out above all others.

Can the Talbots come through unscathed, or will they suffer the fate of so many countless millions before them?
It's not just brains versus brain-eaters anymore. And the stakes may be higher than merely life and death, with eternal souls on the line.
    Critic Reviews:
"Mark Tufo has written the first zombie series that kept me up reading all night." (John Ramsey Miller, author of
    The Last Family)
    Members Reviews:
    An excellent sequel
The second installment of the Zombie Fallout series most definitely did not disappoint. The first title leaves you essentially salivating for more with the way it ended and I can assure you this will do the same. It would appear that the author of these books, Mark Tufo, is a fan of ending these titles at a stage that just leaves you craving for more (I somewhat hope that by the time I listen through all the books the other installment would be out).
A number of other characters were brought to the fore here during this book, as well as a number of interesting twists where the zombies are concerned. The entire Talbot family all goes through varying degrees of changes through this one but once again seeing the world through the eyes of Mike Talbot in this post-apocalyptic world is probably the most enjoying part of this. I really do agree with him that he needs to be checked out after all this and I don't particular mean because of the traumatic experience of being hunted by Zombies, clearly his issues are far deeper routed but yet it makes for a HILARIOUS listen.
Sean Runnette is perfection in this title especially where he depicts Mike Talbot (the main character). I honestly believe you would be hard pressed finding anyone who could do anything better than what he did in this title. He simply made it a joy to listen to...
    Two Thumbs Up for AWESOMENESS!
    On to the next one....
    I Hate Mike Talbot!!
    BUT PARDON THE PUN
I have given four stars to Calis Rose and Timothy. I think I gave three stars to Zombie Fallout book one. I like Mark Tufo, but I hate this character. Every single line is a middle school joke or pun. I might have laughed once in seven hours. It was like a 1970 sitcom without the laugh track. JEAN LOOKED SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED. If there was a story, I totally missed it. I have gotten bored with a lot of books, but this one made me mad and the longer I listened the madder I got. I had to quit listening to let my blood pressure settle.

Great book, significant differences from the movie
    Any additional comments?
My favorite book, written by one of my favorite people (Carl Sagan).
I am writing this review to mainly focus on the major differences between the movie and the book. The book follows the same basic plot as the movie, but with a few exceptions (SPOILER ALERT):
    - Ellie's mother is not dead, as in the movie. While Ellie's father passes away, her mother is around throughout her childhood and her adult life.
    - Ellie and her stepfather (also not present in the movie) have a strained and reoccurring relationship throughout the book.
    - Ellie's childhood, teenage years, and early graduate and internship years are described in a more detail.
    - The President of USA has a more prominent, reoccurring role, and is female.
    - Ellie has many romantic relationships (i.e., sexual relationships with a lab assistant early in her career, and then with Kent the Russian Scientist later in her career; and sexual tension with Drummond and then to an even greater degree with Vagay), albeit not with Palmer Joss who is the one individual she does have a romantic relationship with in the movie.
    - Three machines, not two, are constructed (i.e., in the USA, Japan, and Russia). This was interesting because by the time the story concludes only two machines have been used (or should I say, one has been destroyed and one has been used and possibly is not able to be used again), with the machine in Russia still unused.
    - Ellie is not the only individual who makes the trips; several delegates make the trip with her and have their own unique experiences.
    - The conversation Ellie has with the alien is much, much more detailed and extensive, and for me was a real highlight of the story.
    - Following her voyage in the machine, Ellie learns something interesting about the number for "pi" (i.e., 3.14...) that provides an interesting twist at the conclusion of the story.
In summary, excellent book, and not only because of the writing but due to the narrator's great performance as well. Lefkow did an outstanding job as a true Voice Actor. Most of the supporting characters are male and the narrator (female) did a superb job rising to the challenge of voice acting each male character without sounding odd or goofy.
Technical problems with this recording - skips...
This recording has technical issues with it that I noticed after awhile. The recording skips at several instances, for example go to Chapter 11 and at 4:22 the recording skips some of the story.

"A long time ago, I was a living, breathing human being. I went mad. I served my enemies. They became my only friends.Since then, Ive traveled back and forth across this galaxy, and out to the spaces between galaxies - a greater reach than any human before me. You have asked me to tell you about that time. Since you are the last true Reclaimer, I must obey. Are you recording? Good. Because my memory is failing rapidly. I doubt Ill be able to finish the story.
"Once, on my birth-world, a world I knew as Erde-Tyrene, and which now is called Earth, my name was Chakas...."
In the wake of apparent self-destruction of the Forerunner empire, two humans - Chakas and Riser - are like flotsam washed up on very strange shores indeed. Captured by the Master Builder, misplaced during a furious battle in space, they now find themselves on an inverted world where horizons rise into the sky, and where humans of all kinds are trapped in a perilous cycle of horror and neglect. For they have become both research animals and strategic pawns in a cosmic game whose madness knows no end - a game of ancient vengeance between the powers who seeded the galaxy with life, and the Forerunners who expect to inherit their sacred Mantle of duty to all living things.
In the company of a young girl and an old man, Chakas begins an epic journey across a lost and damaged Halo in search of a way home, an explanation for the warrior spirits rising up within, and for the Librarians tampering with human destiny. This journey will take them into the Palace of Pain, the domain of a powerful and monstrous intelligence who claims to be the Last Precursor, and who now has control of both this Halo and the fate of Forerunners and Humans alike.
Called the Captive by Forerunners, and the Primordial by ancient human warriors, this intelligence has taken charge of, and retasked, the Master Builders cruel researches into the Flood - which it may have itself unleashed on the galaxy more than 10,000 years before.

Once upon a time on a Halo far far away...
I listened to the first book Halo Cryptum which told of a story of Chakas (a human), Riser (a hobbit like humanoid), and Bornstellar Makes Everlasting. However, midway through the first book, Chakas and Riser are separated from Bornstellar and their fate unknown. In Halo Primordium, we discover what did happen to Chakas and Riser. They had crash landed onto Halo Installation 07. This book is their story.
Halo Primodium...oh my goodness. While the story meanders in the first half with Chakas trying to make sense of this Halo world he crash landed on and the odd humans he's come in contact, the story rapidly ramps up to some eye-opening experiences that lead to big OMG moments all Halo game fans would recognize.
Tim Dadabo freaking excelled in his narration and storytelling style. I had no problems engaging, especially when he slipped into his character voice of 343 Guilty Spark. The final chapters of Halo Primordium are worth the price of the book alone as it became more of a Halo production than just a reading of a story. Great stuff! Kudos to Tim and the studio staff for doing what they did. It was pure awesome to my ears.
Greg Bear Halo stories have turned up to be quite amazing. While his stories take place a long time ago in galaxies far far away, he weaves the legends that become the foundation of Halo lore of today.

Great Build Up, and then Just Ends
I have loved all the Ender and Shadow series book so far. I'm reading (listening) to them in chronological order and I have thoroughly enjoying them. When I came up to this story, I was very excited to see what happened to Bean and his three children after they entered the spaceship. I think that this story allowed us to see exactly that. We got to meet his children, all grown up and brilliant and immature. The performance by all the readers is amazing and had me engulfed in the story.
As the story progressed, I loved every minute of it: the relationship between Bean and his children, the relationships between each of the children, the power struggle between the two boys, and the exploration of the ship. When the end neared, I could not sense it, which I am usually able to do. Then it ended and I was left hanging, waiting for the second half of the book to begin.
As Card explained in the author's note, this was an experiment of a half-novel to see if there was a market for such a length. Honestly, I think that this was not long enough to stand on its own as a book, especially when one compares it to the lengths of his other Ender and Shadow novels. I would declare this experiment a failure. It was too short. This could have worked if this was the first book in a series or a stand-alone book. However, to introduce a half-novel in the middle of a series of full length novels was not the smartest of ideas.
    Excellent addition to the "Enderverse"
Would you listen to Shadows in Flight again? Why?
Yes, it is chock full of nuances, information and mysteries that I love about this series.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadows in Flight?
The discovery of the mystery ship, and the processes Bean and the kids go through to determine what they should do.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The narrators are the same as previous Shadow and Ender books, and I love that they have kept it consistent over the years.

One of the best in the Halo saga
Would you listen to Halo: Glasslands again? Why?
Yes, this is a great continuation of the story started in Ghosts of Onyx.
What other book might you compare Halo: Glasslands to and why?
Glasslands is written quite similarly to Ghosts of Onyx, continuing the story and expanding to include a great new cast of characters.
What about Euan Mortons performance did you like?
Characters are well defined by the distinct voices he uses for each one.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
None stand out as the whole book was great.
This is a very different kind of Halo book
This was a surprisingly different experience from the other Halo novels. Much like the games, most of the previous installments have been fairly action-packed and event oriented. Large sections of this book (and I do mean LARGE) consist solely of conversations and internal monologue. If you ever thought Star Trek The Next Generation was kind of boring given that it was a show about staff meetings, this book will be even more difficult. Since the book primarily follows the activities of intelligence agents, the lack of action shouldn't be a total shock. That's not to say that nothing happens, it's just that it's about as far from the novelization of a first person shooter as you could possibly get.
The book is also a lot more linear than many previous novels. Those early books have to go back and establish a lot of backstory. By this point a lot of that has more or less been established in the author was able to focus on a specific store in a fairly condensed period of time.
The author also explores some areas I honestly didn't consider before. A lot of the mundane detail about life in the Spartan armor is discussed for the benefit of the reader. The content also has a much more distinct psychological overtone which adds depth to both existing and new characters. I found that to be a plus, though it was difficult at times because of the positions taken.

    Critic Reviews:
The Ringworld Engineers has all the imaginativeness, convincing detail, and narrative vivacity that have come to be associated with the works of Larry Niven. Furthermore, it answers a lot of questions that have been tantalizing his readers for a long time. Most highly recommended! (Poul Anderson)

Good Story, Wrong Narrator. Way Wrong.
Short review - long winded soapbox.
Casting picked the wrong narrator for this book. Mr.Garcia speaks with a clear voice that might be a pleasure to listen to if given the right story. His voice has a pleading quality to it - sometimes a whining quality. I see Mr. Garcia reading the classics or maybe some genre I don't listen to such as childrens books.
After listening to the first book in this series my impression was serious fictional science with fun banter, appropriate sarcasm, and witty conversation. Mr. Parker nailed the first book with his outstanding performance. I mean he nailed it. His voice, inflections, emphasis were all spot on. I was able to laugh in the right places, be shocked in other places and follow along with the story very easily.
In the second book much was lost. Too much. I would have to listen to something multiple times to realize that was supposed to be a funny part or the characters picking on each other or some serious encounter. But instead the whole book is lost in an incorrect emotional interpretation. All sense of tension countered by comic relief is lost. Instead all the characters seem to be whining or complaining to each other.
This is one of the fails when converting a series into audible content. Publishers need to realize the narrator is a huge part of the book. They can turn a wonderful book into a painful drag or even turn a mediocre book into something worth listening to. With Mr. Parker they found the right narrator - then immediately changed for someone so wrong for the part. I notice in future books Mr. Parker does not return. Unfortunate. I'm not sure I can go through one more book with Mr. Garcia only to be facing another change in narrators. Ugh.
As a parallel - Jim Butcher has a series called The Dresden Files. It is outstanding! For 13 volumes the narrator, Mr. Glover, gave an outstanding performance. Voice perfect. In volume 13 they brought in a new narrator and I almost lost interest in the whole series. Maybe I was totally used to Mr. Marsters by that time but I don't think I would have listened to the whole series if it was read by the narrator of volume 13. Fortunately this publisher realized the situation and brought out volume 14 with the original narrator.

    Critic Reviews:
"Anyone who says there's nothing new in the world of zombie fiction hasn't read Peter Clines. Ex-Patriots is even better than its predecessor. This is a series that's going places." (Mira Grant, author of Feed and Deadline)

    THE FAULT IS MINE
PEOPLE BELIEVE A LOT OF THINGS WHEN THINGS GO BAD.
I have to admit a weakness of mine. I have trouble controlling myself during a book sale. I love Clines' books, 14 and The Junkie Quantriun and will be getting The Fold. I was not a huge fan of the first book, thought it was so-so. I have never been a Super Hero fan, but I am a huge Zombie fan. The only super hero I ever cared about was Batman, cause he used his brains and invented gadgets. The soap opera that plays out between the super heroes and the regular people may be indicative of what would really happen, but I don't really care. I could not get it into my head to care about any of these characters. This whole book is cartoonish and would seem to appeal to fans of DragonBallz or Pokeman.
I also get annoyed at Zombie books that pretend to be different. Several of them like to invent different names for Zombies, as if they have to pay a royalty to Romero every time they use the name Zombies. The reader is never going to think EX or Stalkers or what ever other cute name a writer gives them to try and make them his own. We are always going to think Zombie, so use the term.
The narrators are okay. One of them does make mature females sound like anime characters, HEHE. The main narrator has one of those movie trailer voices, which is cool at first, but over time grows just as monotone as a quiet voice.
If you were a big fan of book one, ignore me, you should love this. If you are not a fan of book one or not a fan of comic books, no matter what the sale price, stay away.
The superheroes+zombies mashup gets a little bette
This is definitely popcorn entertainment. Superheroes + zombies: it's a novelized comic book, and it reads like one.
