    Any additional comments?
This is one of the better Black Jack novels. I've read or listened to all of them. The overarching concept of both series is creative an holds our interest. The action scenes and battles are usually well done. But they all share two problems that keep them from being great. First, the dialogue is often too verbose. Second, is it just me or does Black Jack talk and sound just a little too much like Buzz Lightyear?
Another great book in the series
What made the experience of listening to Steadfast the most enjoyable?
The narrator really brings the characters the story and characters to life in my minds eye. This is another great book for this series. I can't stop listening. The characters and storyline is one of my favorite of all time.
What did you like best about this story?
The unfolding of some sort of Alliance conspiracy.
Which character as performed by Christian Rummel was your favorite?
    Blackjack of course.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    The saga continues.
    Any additional comments?
I just can't wait for each release. I hope there are 300 books released for this series.
    Much more mature
I listened to the first series and enjoyed it. This series demonstrates much more mature writing, both in characterization and plot. Geary faces many moral dilemmas. Dejani doesn't whine as much. The other starship captains are real humans, not one-dimensional. There are many unanswered questions making life challenging and difficult for the protagonists. And, the events are not predicable. Very good writing and a good listen Strongly recommend if you like this genre.
Jack Campbell (and Christian Rummel) does it again
I couldn't wait for this book to be available on Audible and now that I've finished it, I can't wait for the next one.
Never dull, never predictable, with brilliant writing and superb narrating. Campbell creates characters you want to follow and Rummel brings them to life.

    THE BEST ONE YET!!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Indian Hill 4: From The Ashes to be better than the print version?
I only say yes because I Love Sean Runnette!
What did you like best about this story?
The depth of the main characters commitment and loyalty to his family and friends. This series is so different from anything I have ever read. I never know what is going to happen next. I have listened to so many books that I have been able to figure out what was going to happen long before the story was over. I like to be surprised and Mark Tufo isn't afraid of the road less traveled. IH 4 stopped at the perfect moment and I can't wait for IH 5!!!
What about Sean Runnettes performance did you like?
EVERYTHING!! He is my all time favorite narrator! He was born to be Mike Talbot!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There are to many to count. I laughed out loud several times, said NO, NO, NO, and cried several times!
    Just keeps getting better!
I thought the first book was too oppressively dark and had to force myself to keep listening to the series. By book two, I was glad I had kept going. It's been classic Mike Talbot ever since and seems to get better with each installment.
This one had me laughing out loud before the end of the first sentence, I think--certainly the first paragraph. There's plenty of action and suspense for those who like it, always balanced by Mike's wit and banter with others.
If you've read a lot of Tufo, you've probably already figured this out, but I'll say it anyway. The various Mike Talbot series' are pretty much mutually exclusive. I had read the available Zombie Fallout books first, and expected this series to be the adventures of young Mike before the zombies. I couldn't have been wronger.
It seems as if Mark Tufo had several completely different adventures that he imagined himself in over the years, and now he has stuck Mike Talbot in his place, (hey, I just noticed they even have the same initials) and is writing them up.

    Back Off! Or I'll Bite
Yeah, yeah, good stuff, fun listen, wild ride...you can't go wrong with the most fun series you can get your teeth into. If you've read my reviews on Maberry's Ledger, you know he is my guilty pleasure, and I even offered to take up a collection so team Jon-Ray could devote all of their time to collaborating. So, I'm going to voice my opinion here safely among my fellow devotees and ask you all to take a step back, stand down (cut me some love). Here goes: needed MORE Ghost, more Bunny, more monsters, more story, more nifty weapons. This story leaned heavily on fist time and the guys running, a little too witlessly, into another trap to fight their way out of -- no complaints...It's just, if the story is going to rely on fight scenes for half the pages, can't Maberry at least churn out the stories faster?
Now that I've probably alienated my peer group of rabid Maberry/Porter fans, a helpful recommendation: Code Zero can stand on its own, but really needs (at least) Dragon Factory as a prelude. There ya go -- let the tomato-chucking-*no*-help-button-pressing begin!
[BTW: The Emperor was naked -- yeah; I said it!]
    Joe Ledger continues to roll..
What did you love best about Code Zero?
The performance of Ray Porter is always remarkable. The story meanders in places, and takes a huge leap to get into , but Joe L , and Porter as him, are tour de force.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Predictable. Fact that Joe L is still upright and functioning is always amazing.
Have you listened to any of Ray Porters other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, as many as I can, and I will again. Porter has replaced Scott Brick as my favourite performer on Audible. He brings everything he touches to life.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Ledger's self reflection is always interesting.
    Any additional comments?
This continues the series in a dramatic, predictably violent but thoughtful manner. I recommend it highly, if for nothing else for the performance of Porter.
code zero! need i say more?
    Any additional comments?
throughout this series, joe ledger has fought just about every kind of worst nightmare imaginable and has managed to come out the other side.

    Great series of books
Read the whole series of books from this author and couldn't start listening to the next book quick enough. The flow of the story in each book and from book to book was amazing. Would like to see more from this author.
    The future belongs to AIs
Herling's The Last Firewall creates a semi-dystopian future where artificial intelligences (AIs) have basically all but superseded humans. In a somewhat implausible short span of time, neural implants (basically having your internet connectivity in your head) and AI technology have advanced such that AIs dominate the economic landscape and humans have been reduced to mostly welfare status. Against this backdrop is one AI with megalomaniacal ambitions, an emerging mob mentality anti-machine backlash, two individuals responsible for much of the state of affairs trying to sort things out, and a young girl with growing strange powers due to a unique instance of neonatal implants.
The sci-fi elements are focused on computer artificial intelligence and direct neural connectivity to online computer systems through physical implants. Some rather inventive ways of perpetrating crimes are presented that foretell future issues. The future societal organizing structure does strain credulity as it's hard to envision how AIs performing "work" instead of humans can invigorate the economy when most of the population is reduced to subsistence living and drug abuse. The plot and pacing are well executed and the story is an enjoyable listen nevertheless.
The narration is well done with a solid range of voices and excellent tone and tenor that matches the pace of the tale.
    Very much enjoyed this book.
    Any additional comments?
Wonderful read, great new characters and after finishing this book I understand how this fits in with the other two. You can read this separate from the other two or in series and its just as great of a read.
Kat is a character that was effected by ELOPe, this was before "Yoni", year of no internet.

Star Force and the machines attempt to exterminate one another in a final, glorious conflict. Along the way, Riggs finally learns who his real friends and enemies are.
    Members Reviews:
    Finally, the end
I really can't believe I waded through all 9 books in the series but I guess I got hooked. I think probably because I'm a lot like Kyle Riggs myself. An excellent series if a little awkward at times. I liked the ending although would have liked it if there had been some closure with Miklos and the other characters like Kwan, Gaines, Nukum and of course Marvin.
So Concludes the Star Force Saga...
Have you listened to any of Mark Boyetts other performances before? How does this one compare?
Mark Boyett was a great narrator. A professional in his art.
    Any additional comments?
I must admit I've never much cared for first-person narration, however I make a huge exception to the Star Force series -- in the end, Mark Boyett (i.e., his voice) was Colonel Kyle Riggs.
Mr. Larson did a great job keeping the story fresh and the progression interesting throughout the series.
As a space opera, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride that saved humanity. I was never bored or agitated at this series, as I have been with others, and I finished each read enthusiastically and quickly.
I will be continuing on with any other series Mr. Larson and Mr. Boyett present, and I look forward to another ride.
Sad to see the series end, but enjoyed the ride.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. It is a unique series, great plot, great protagonist, Excellent writing style.
What did you like best about this story?
Col. Kyle Riggs. One of my favorite heroes of all time. Considered an outlaw, looked at indifferently by most of senior officers, chased by the bad guys, good guys, friends, several world governments, multiple alien species that consider him to be Earths leader and greatest warrior. I love deeply flawed, but brilliant protagonist in a novel, and Riggs fits this profile better than nearly any character I've ever seen.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I stayed up late to buy it as soon as it went on sale.
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book, and series. Col. Kyle Riggs is a true hero similar to John McClain in the Die Hard Movies. He gets thrown into extraordinary circumstances against his will, and ends up being the deeply flawed, but super effective savior of Earth. Riggs is the type of man that will ignore his government, and entire senior staff when directing an order. This order may result in millions of deaths on earth, but to Riggs millions of deaths is necessary sacrifice in order to save billions. He is a true Cowboy. The books are all well written with a perfect mix of action and dialog. I'm sad to see the series end, but I have high hopes for B.V. Larson as a sci-fi novelist going forward.
    glad i listened...satisfying conclusion
    Any additional comments?
if you're at this page, then you've probably read/listened to the previous books in this series.

    Publisher's Summary:
The Metro books have put Dmitry Glukhovsky in the vanguard of Russian speculative fiction alongside the creator of Night Watch, Sergei Lukyanenko. A year after the events of Metro 2033, the last few survivors of the apocalypse, surrounded by mutants and monsters, face a terrifying new danger as they hang on for survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro. Featuring blistering action, vivid and tough characters, claustrophobic tension and dark satire, the Metro books have become bestsellers across Europe.
    Members Reviews:
Nothing to do with first book or games.
It was hard to follow right out of the gate. I had to give this one a second listen. It has nothing to do with the first book or either of the video games. You are very deep into the story before they bring up the main character from the first book and his inclusion will make you wish they left him out of this story. This book is about Hunter, a young girl, an old man and a mysterious virus. It is a good story, set in the same dark and scarey METRO system of Moscow. The author didnt tie the two books together enough for me I guess. He does have the protagonists big reveal tie into the dark ones but waites almost untill the end of the book to do it. I guess if you really want to learn more about the dark ones and what became of them, you'll just have to play the video games. Still, this book is definately worth a listen, just dont go into it expecting to learn anything more about the events and characters of the first book than you already know.
Pales in Comparison to its Predecessor
A strong vocal performance cannot salvage this hasty and heavy handed sequel. The book fails the reconcile it's philosophical musings to the actions of its characters, leaving the listener with a furrowed brow from bewilderment.
A big step down from the original
    The book:
Unlike Metro 2033, which follows the accounts of Artyom, this book is told in first person from about 4 different characters (Hunter, Homer, Sasha, and Artyom (for a very small portion)). There are multiple switches between each character within each chapter. This sometimes is done very cleverly, leaving you on an exciting cliffhanger; but most of the time it feels like it just gets in the way of the story. Another downside to this is, 2 of the 3 major characters I did not find very interesting at all and felt myself wishing that they would just focus on Hunter. This book has extremely little connection to the first novel, it is not a direct sequel, its almost like a spiritual successor. The story was FAR less action packed than the first novel. There are almost no battles with mutants in the entirety of the novel; no fights between factions; very few action sequences where characters are battling for survival in the bleak Moscow Metro. Instead of Artyom's quest across the entire metro, through hostile factions, up onto the surface to explore red square and the Kremlin like in 2033, this is the story of a few people traveling to a somewhat nearby station to access a potential threat to the metro. The author was clearly trying to focus on creating a more romantic and philosophical theme that ended up being rather heavy handed.

The fourth novel in Peter Clines' best-selling Ex series.
When hes awake, George Bailey is just an ordinary man. Five days a week he coaxes his old Hyundai to life, curses the Los Angeles traffic, and clocks in at his job as a handyman at the local college. But when he sleeps, George dreams of something more. George dreams of flying. He dreams of fighting monsters. He dreams of a man made of pure lightning, an armored robot, a giant in an army uniform, a beautiful woman who moves like a ninja.
Then one day as hes walking from one fix-it job to the next, a pale girl in a wheelchair tells George of another world, one in which civilization fell to a plague that animates the deadand in which George is no longer a glorified janitor, but one of humanitys last heroes. Her tale sounds like madness, of course. But as Georges dreams and his waking life begin bleeding together, he starts to wonder - which is the real world, and which is just fantasy?
    Members Reviews:
    Didn't Expect This!!
If you here you know how these books usually start, there is a Then and Now through the book and you get to know one of the heroes' past. But here its different.
When you start this book you will be a bit confused, I certainly was, and I couldn't understand what was happening (which is great, its boring when you figure it out early in the book) and when i got to the point where all looked clear... well.. you still get shocked afterwards.
Ex-Purgatory was written in a different approach and actually that was one of its pros, its ending was good and twists are always there...
Cons: Narrator.. Jay Snyder is a good narrator, and he did a good job as always.... But where are the others?? I liked the combo of narrators as in the past books... it doesn't always work when you have different narrators for a single book, but in this series it works well... so ya guys, bring them back in the next book.
So go ahead, change is good, and you will like this addition!
Jumping into the Abyss without a net!
If you follow my reviews, it's no secret that I'm a Clines fan. Hands down, this author is the real deal when it comes to his genre, and he manages to take the series to new levels with each writing.
But does he do it again in "Ex-Purgatory?" Is he firing on all cylinders? Has he still got game?
    You bet.
Look, if Clines stumbles in his writing, you'll hear from me first. Just look at my last two reviews on sub-par work from lesser authors. I'm not afraid of readers putting dislikes on my audiobook reviews. It's my review, and good or bad, the truth will out.
But, I'm happy to say, Clines is growing as an author. This time out, he's twisting both the storyline and perspective. It's got a prequel opening for a particular hero that I always felt was lost in in the backdrop at the beginning of the series. Now we have the opportunity to see this , and it spins into a LOST feel. Think flashbacks, twists, and a few reality shifts. Still, he manages to balance his dystopian superhero apocalypse in the listener's favor.
This is a departure from his typical writing. Authors, and especially their publishers, are apprehensive to change style and direction mid-stream in a series, because the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." becomes the rule of the day. However, if done right, such a departure can make a series better for the journey.

    Holy crap, wow.
Where does Yesterday's Gone: Season One rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This is the first FICTION audio book I've ever listened to. Before I picked this up, I was skeptical about whether or not I'd be able to get into a fiction audio book while working, but grabbed it on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to stay engaged with this story while simultaneously swearing at photoshop for six to twelve hour stretches.
What other book might you compare Yesterday's Gone: Season One to and why?
As far as format goes, it's a lot like the A Song of Ice and Fire series in that it switches points of view a lot, and most of the narrators are either unreliable or ignorant, which isn't a bad thing and lends a lot to the atmosphere--I don't want every little detail about the big scaries up front, and this format was fantastic for keeping the mystery going. As far as actual content, I'd compare it to some of Steven King's older stuff? I'm not really sure, because I haven't read King since the 90s, maybe early 2ks and my memory of anything I was reading or enjoying at that time is shoddy at best, making me an unreliable reviewer, haha.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Do I seriously have to choose? I think some of the most satisfying parts of the book were when various groups started to meet up and merge. The first part introduced all of these characters and made me like (or even more thrillingly HATE them), and while that was great, when the different threads of story start to come together it hits all the right buttons on my 'things a book needs for me to enjoy the christ out of it' panel.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Misery porn at its finest!
    Any additional comments?
I finished this book and went looking for the next part, only to find that it does not yet exist in audio format.

Wow! This is a Great Series. It sucks you in!
I started this series earlier this week. I had bought the first book many months ago and just got around to listening to it. I like science fiction, but I haven't really explored a lot of sf military soap opera until now. Evan Currie created a great story with characters that you fall in love with and root for, and he mixes in a lot of interesting science as well. Benjamin Darcie was great too (I'll have to listen to some other books he's narrated), the pace had the right rhythm and I enjoyed listening to him. If you plan to listen to this story, start with number 1 first. This book will stand on it's own but you'll have a better appreciation of what's going on if you listen to the story in series order. Can't wait for the next one.
    Get the whole series!
What did you love best about Homeworld?
Actually, I hated the ending...BUT I also LOVED the ending. What can I say? It just came out of left field and took me totally by surprise. Really unexpected!! Can't wait for the book 4.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I'd have to say Weston of course. A real "man's man" in the tradition of the heroes from the books by E E Doc Smith (which I highly recommend).
Have you listened to any of Benjamin L. Darcies other performances before? How does this one compare?
Just books one and two and loved them both.
Well Done Modern Military Sci Fi
Would you consider the audio edition of Homeworld to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version....
What did you like best about this story?
This was a combination of several genres including military Sci-Fi, Space Opera and high concept storytelling. I thought it was well done and the the ending surprised me. There is going to have to be a 4th book in the series to resolve the story arch and I will listen to that book when it is available.
Which character as performed by Benjamin L. Darcie was your favorite?
    The Admiral Funny and poignant
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending. I was shocked and fascinated at the same time.
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this books. Solid, well written and plenty of action. Good fun!
Satisfying End to an ARC - Ready for Book 4!
Homeworld is the third (but not final) book in the Odyssey One series.

Kyle Riggs is in for a rough ride.
In Annihilation, the seventh book of the Star Force Series, nothing goes as planned. The three fledgling human colonies in the Eden System are beginning to take hold, but the forces threatening to root them out are many. The Crustaceans are calling for help, despite the fact they are the sworn enemies of Star Force. Are they potential allies, or vicious tricksters? And why are the oceans of their world heating up?
Even as Riggs flies out to investigate the situation, more mysteries arise. The Blues are making vague threats, and Earth is suing for peace. Who is to be trusted, and who holds a dagger behind their backs?
Annihilation is a military science fiction novel by best-selling author B. V. Larson. To find the first book in the series, search for Swarm. Annihilation is the longest book in the series so far....

It could be so much better!!!
I have, of course, read all the other book in this series and it is slipping. I hope B.V. Larson or one of his associates read these reviews. The character, Kyle Riggs, is becoming juvenile and just as much a dictator as his hated foe, Crowe. I don't understand. Col. Riggs is generally an idiot, and therefore, I'm losing interest in him and almost wish he would be killed off. When, after how many years in space and countless battlefields, do Kyle Riggs suppose to learn from his mistakes. It's becoming frustrating to read/listen to. The narrator is good though. I like him.
What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger
Would you consider the audio edition of Annihilation to be better than the print version?
Of course. Mark Boyett is such an accomplished narrator, a favorite - right next to Scott Brick. He is so good that when I read print edition of any novel I hear Mark's voice anyway.
What did you like best about this story?
Ever notice how one character just seems to steal every scene even when they aren't really trying to? Our beloved galactic robot - Marvin - has gone and upgraded himself for a specific project. In his best effort to take care of a tragic situation for Col. Riggs, he's applied his unemotional and scientific zeal for discovery and taken it to a grotesque level. Yet, you cannot help but appreciate his adaptive creativity.
    Which scene was your favorite?
This was a toss up for me. There is a scene where Riggs and some of his "Pigs" are hunkered down in the dirt trying to fight a gigantic mech that is steamrolling over them. Hoping to score a win by fighting from underneath the behemoth, the team finds themselves with a frighteningly over-sized target sure to squish them. That little battle was so well written I could sense the fear and hear the deafening sounds. The second scene is where Kyle Riggs punches into the room to see what Marvin is up to. The resulting description of Marvin's self-edit to accomplish a medical task was a stroke of macabre that really spiced up an otherwise predictable storyline.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, its the funeral scene. I don't want to let out here who dies, but the scene is so powerful. Go ahead and place a bookmark here - because this, in my opinion, is the turning point for Kyle.
    Any additional comments?
I was afraid that this book might be a little bit of a dud based on other reviews. I disagree, having found this to be a critical book in the series.
