I would like it more if Audible would combine
8 hour books are to short. The story is continuing. Why not combine the books for a better value?
    Another short story!l
The story is good but disappointing at more than a few points. I don't like pawing so much for such a short book. I understand that this is done to increase profits however at some point I will get mad enough to stop buying them. But like the fool I am,I keep buying them.
    Maximum Awesomeness.
    Any additional comments?
If you've never listened to any of the Arisen books you are seriously missing out on true greatness. They are well written with breathless action and nail biting suspense. Once you start listening you won't want to stop, you'll want to finish them in one sitting. They are that good!
The characters are extremely hard core soldiers. They are very compelling without seeming too over the top or coming off as corny (which happens in so many other books of this nature). The story is believable and intense without having elements of the supernatural. These books never get boring.
    R. C. Bray is hands down the best audio book narrator in the business since the death of Frank Muller. He is on top of his game with all of the Arisen books. I thought about reading the other books in this series so I wouldn't have to wait on Audible to catch up, but it wouldn't be the same without Mr. Bray's voice. So, I guess I'll preorder part 5.
The Arisen books are the kind of books that make me jealous of people who've never listened to them because they get to hear them for the first time, whereas I can only ever relisten to them.
    The Best Yet!
This fourth installment is the best yet! The first three books were good, but all three combined seem to set up the thrilling story and plot of Maximum Violence.

In the best-selling vein of Guillermo Del Toro and Justin Cronin, the acclaimed author of Chimera and The Hydra Protocol delivers his spectacular breakout novel - an entertaining pause-resisting zombie epic that is sure to become a classic.
    Anyone can be positive....
The tattooed plus sign on Finnegan's hand marks him as a Positive. At any time the zombie virus could explode in his body, turning him from a rational human into a ravenous monster. His only chance of a normal life is to survive the last two years of the potential incubation period. If he reaches his 21st birthday without an incident, he'll be cleared.
Until then Finn must go to a special facility for positives, segregated from society to keep the healthy population safe. But when the military caravan transporting him is attacked, Finn becomes separated. To make it to safety, he must embark on a perilous cross-country journey across an America transformed - a dark and dangerous land populated with heroes, villains, madmen, and hordes of zombies. And though the zombies are everywhere, Finn discovers that the real danger may be his fellow humans.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome meets World War Z and I Am Legend in this thrilling tale that has it all: a compelling story, great characters, and explosive action, making Positive the ultimate zombie novel of our time.

Good - but not typical of other Wellington stories
In what seems to be a new trend in "Zombie" and other post apocalyptic stories, this one is set in the recovery period, a generation after the collapse. That's a good thing, as I think the stories of collapse are interesting but it would be a real challenge to find something fresh and new in that area. The recovery here is not as complete as in, say, Mira Grant's stories. That leaves a broad canvas for Wellington to tell his story and he uses it well.
I was excited to see another Wellington book. I thought "13 bullets" and the books that followed it were one of the most gritty, brutal, and dark takes on the monster genre I've come across. They reminded me of John Steakley's "Armour" (there's a guy who understands what fear is). Positive is different. In a lot of ways it feels younger, more hopeful, and it's definitely less graphic in its brutality.
There are some very hard themes here, and if you're sensitive to those you may want to give this a pass. Wellington addresses the vulnerability of young women and girls in a lawless society in a very direct way that may bother some readers -- though he is never graphic or puerile in those descriptions. For me, the balance was about right. Be warned, however. If you have a history with, or are particularly sensitive to, that kind of sexual exploitation the mention of it even without graphic descriptions could be upsetting.
Overall, I enjoyed the book even though it wasn't quite what I expected.
Twenty years on, everything's great. Or is it?
Twenty years after a zombie apocalypse, Finnegan lives with his family in Manhattan, a sprawling metropolis of 50,000. Everything's fine--if you don't mind constant gardening, fishing in the subway, and coping with paranoid members of the "First Generation" who lived through the worst of the catastrophe.
    Things aren't very interesting.

    Publisher's Summary:
It's Christmas Eve at St Mary's. And all through the house. Nothing is stirring.... Except for Max, Peterson, and Markham, sneaking out at midnight for an assignment that is very definitely off the books.
It was ten years ago tonight that senior historians Bashford and Grey went missing in 12th century Jerusalem. So how did they end up in AD 60 Roman Colchester?
Max has a theory. Peterson has a plan. Markham has bacon sandwiches. Colchester has Boudicca and her bloodthirsty Iceni hordes.
And then there's the giant pig...the enraged, giant pig....
Jodi Taylor is and always has been a history nut. Her disinclination to get out of bed for anything after 1485 can only be overcome by massive amounts of chocolate, and sometimes, if it's raining, not even then. She wanted to write a book about time travel that was a little different and, not having a clue how difficult this would make her book to classify, went ahead and slung in elements of history, adventure, comedy, romance, tragedy, and anything else she could think of. Her advice to booksellers is to buy huge numbers of her books and just put one on every shelf.

    Time Travel Fluff
I may be calling this fluff, but I'll fess up that I love it. It's silly, fun and a great read. Enjoy it!
    A good ending
Well written with appearances by your favorite characters. You figure the ending will be disappointing, but it isn't.
    Cute, but too short
Almost a foreword. Over before it started. Leave it to St. Mary's to keep you wanting more.
A nice addition to the series
Very exciting St. Mary's short story. Love the usual St. Mary's humor and excellent narration by Zara Ramm. I do so love this series, especially on audio. I listened to this after book 6, but it takes place before, and so it filled in the blanks on the presence of some historians that are re-introduced in that book. It was fun to see where they came from but it might have been less confusing if I had read this one before book 6 (where I was scratching my head wondering why I couldn't remember these characters). Very strong for a short story.
    As always, Jodi Taylor rocks
Highly recommend EVERY volume in the St Mary's Chronicles. You will love the characters , the history , humor & adventure . Very cleverly written , & ZARA RAMM is simply superb .

    Publisher: Crossroad Press
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 901 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.
That dimension is one of five in the great system called Imajica. They are worlds that are utterly unlike our own but are ruled, peopled, and haunted by species whose lives are intricately connected with ours. As Gentle, Judith, and Pie "oh" pah travel the Imajica, they uncover a trail of crimes and intimate betrayals, leading them to a revelation so startling that it changes reality forever.

    The Full Imajica
After having read this book several times over, I nevertheless discovered new intricacies, finally hearing every word rather then scanning every line.
The epic story is difficult to summarize and that is not what I want to impart. Instead I want to praise the highly imaginative storyline that is enveloped in such beautiful details that it is not difficult for the reader to see all the new alien worlds, or dimensions clearly.
One of my favorite fantasy/magic stories since I first read it about 25 years ago!
    Barker's Masterwork
Barker hit his high water mark with this text. In Imajica, you have a novel who's text and world and characters all create a circular telling of myth in imagery. If you give yourself over to the journey, you will be shown wonders and horrors and wonders again. As in all of Barker's fiction, the author doesn't shy away from the grotesque or the profane, but instead stands them right up next to the sacred and divine. He makes them part of the circle and hands it to the reader in a koan of an experience. Simon Vance does an excellent job of carrying the voices of the text. For the first time, Crossroad gives us an unabridged full telling of the tale. However, I will offer a word of warning. If you're looking for simple horror, look elsewhere. This is not a tale of monsters, though it contains them. It's a love story for imagination.
Imajica is full of adventure, love, lust, power, g
    Any additional comments?
This sweeping novel takes the reader on a fantastical ride through dimensions and the lives of intriguingly genuine characters.
Elegantly told, Barker's larger than life characters enchant and entertain.
Imajica is full of adventure, love, lust, power, greed and betrayal.
I listened to the audio-book and although getting through the book was an arduous task because of the length, the narrator did an excellent job conveying the characters, inflections, and keeping the story flowing.
I would recommend reading a physical copy just for the ease of referencing a previous chapter, reflecting and so on.
I did get distracted by the scope of this novel at times.
Not just a book but a ticket to another world
Some books are more than the sum of the words that create them, its the dimension created without words that set your imagination soaring beyond those limits and leave you feeling bereft when it is done.

    Publisher's Summary:
The New York Times best-selling series based on the blockbuster Xbox games!
While Spartans get all the glory, no soldier - not even the legendary Master Chief - wins a war on his own. Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck and his team of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs) played a major role in saving the Earth from all-out invasion at the end of the Covenant War - acts of bravery and ingenuity that did not go unnoticed by the United Nations Space Command.
Now, after many Spartans have been killed in battle, and the Master Chief is listed as MIA, the UNSC decides to create a new generation of Spartans to defend humanity from threats both outside and within. When they come to Buck with an extraordinary proposition, he is forced to make a life-altering decision. With the Covenant War finally over, is it time for him finally to retire to the sidelines for a life he could only dream about...or is he prepared to step up and become part of the military's new blood?
    Members Reviews:
    Great story, grating narrator
Story was fantastic, but the narrator's cadence made it quite difficult to layer Nathan Fillion's voice over it in my head. Still, overall quite good.
Would have been better if Nathan Fillian narrated it
But overall it wasn't bad at all, a fine edition to the halo novel series for sure!
Decent story, let down by a few factors.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator - overall (once things got moving) he was good, but there's something about his tone of voice, the way he finishes sentences etc. that didn't excite the text like other narrators do.
Then there's the amount of metaphors and similes that colour the book - at some times it felt like the author was trying to squeeze too many 'descriptors' into one paragraph, and was more like a collection of metaphors and similes strung together by other text. It wasn't horrible, but made it feel more teenage than young adult / adult in audience.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Halo: New Blood?
It was great to go on such a journey across the Halo timeline and tie in so many things - the twist near the end was good, showing some raw emotion which up until then had just been bottled up into characters that were constantly "on mission". Dont want to spoil anything though.
Did Halo: New Blood inspire you to do anything?
Not particularly - was happy to go onto the next audiobook, where the difference in Narrator is like chalk and cheese (currently listening to No Country for Old Men).
I'll still be listening to future Halo books, even if narrated by Scott Brick.
Another perfect entry in the series
Awesome, top notch halo story. Must read. Pick it up and enjoy it mucho mucho mucho mucho caliente gjallarhorn for everyone
    Awesome
Connects Halo ODST to the Halovers even better than the game. Narrator is very good.

    Critic Reviews:
"It's been too long since we've had a really kickass space opera. LEVIATHAN WAKES is interplanetary adventure the way it ought to be written, the kind of SF that made me fall in love with the genre way back when, seasoned with a dollop of horror and a dash of noir. Jimmy Corey writes with the energy of a brash newcomer and the polish of a seasoned pro" (George R. R. Martin)
"A winning blend of old-school space opera and modern sensibility... Corey combines no-nonsense storytelling with hard-boiled dialogue as the novel races to a truly cosmic ending. An excellent start to a promising new series" (The Telegraph)
"Corey... has created a refreshingly blue-collar tale, with well-drawn characters and a compelling narrative sweep. Roll on Book Two." (Financial Times)
"If you love tales packed with worldbuildy details like how humans cored asteroids, pumped them full of atmosphere, and spun them up for gravity's sake, then you'll love this novel to pieces" (io9)

Loved it. Different than The Expanse series in TV, but I liked the crew dynamic in the book more.
    Good sy-fy
saw the serie and thought I give the book a go and they followed each other pretty well.
took a week of listening to get through and it was interesting the whole time.
liked the show, loved the book.
I started listening to this book because og the tv-show. I was not dissappointed it is a great book, with good characters, drama and sci-fi. It is also well suited for audio consumption, which makes this a great format for it.
    Great story and well told!
I watched the series the Expanse on Netflix and thought it was great and the books are just as amazing. There's a lot more included in the tv show especially with the addition of Chrisjen Avasarala who's not in the book but the story of Miller and Holden is far more deeper in the book and there characters really drive you to wanting to know what happens next. Although I knew the story from the show the book was fantastic, well written, well told and listened to it all in little over a week. Highly recommended! Now I want to continue to read Calibans War!
    exciting
both the performance and the story were excellent. On to the next book in the series...

    THE NEW MEN
SOUNDING CONFIDENT ABOUT A THING DOESN'T MAKE IT TRUE
I don't want to sound like a copy cat of The southern STRIKER man on meds, but I too thought this good, but not great. It was 70% entertaining. The filler in the middle was boring.
I MUST SAY DOCTOR, YOUR AWFUL HARD TO LIKE
While I did not like the doctor on the prison planet they rescued. I did like the adventure on the prison planet.
THE WAITING IS GETTING TO HIM, JUST LIKE THE REST OF US.
This is a long set up for the gathering of a crew and the finding an ancient derelict from an unknown super race, in order to beat THE NEW MEN, who are far superior to us and who feel we are like ants. Heppner writes in a old time serious manner, so don't expect any laughs. His writing reminds me a little of pulp science fiction.
The narrator was a little slow and I put him on 1.25 for the last three hours.
A Good Concept and Decent (But Not Great) Story
Let me say first that I disagree with the one-star ratings. Although this story wasn't amazing, I was still entertained and thought that it deserved the three stars I gave it.
I loved the overall concept of the story, I just didn't care for a lot of the "filler" leading up to the actual "lost starship" and thought that a few of the characters were a little unrealistic.
The summary given by audible is pretty good. The story focuses around a gifted intelligence officer who is given the mission of finding a potential new weapon to save the human race from a new and powerful enemy. The "new men" have recently attacked several planets and every ship and task force sent against them has been completely destroyed with no losses on the side of the enemy.
The main character must rely on the notes of a missing professor and the cooperation of his assistant to find an ancient, but powerful, alien starship in a system long ago destroyed by war.

    The best book yet!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
While I loved all the books so far in the series, this is by far the best one to date! This has the history, action, and St. Marys' at its unique and courageous finest. Historians are the BEST "action warriors!" This book has a well rounded set of; awkward romance, action, historians in action, civilians saving the day, bravery, and cheeky humor as always with the St. Marys' crew!
What did you like best about this story?
The mixture of action, history, and a more indepth view of the staff and their courageous nature under "fire" from outside forces. Plus I like that it has a "real enemy" also that you believed could overcome the St. Marys' crew at any time....the suspense and inquinuity of St. Marys' was the best.
What does Zara Ramm bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I think she does a good job, but I think the book itself also would stand on its own. The really nice part is that she doesn't get in the way of the words...she lets them speak on their own. I do think she could add some inflection on occasion to make the funnier items more prevalent..but she does a great job overall.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The fight between the St. Marys' teams and the "enemy" was one I really loved...the courage, the ingenuity, the loyalty, and moxie....fantastic combo!!
    Any additional comments?
This is definitely a GREAT READ, and HIGHLY recommend it. I let a friend listen while we were on a car ride and now she's hooked...she loved the history and romance, I loved the action, humor, and interpersonal relationships within the St. Marys' team.
Anther Adventure with the Timetraveling Historians
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, yes, and yes. I love this series. Get book 1 and start the mad adventure of Max, Peterson, Leon and the other crazy historians at St. Mary's. You have to read it to know. Every story is a different adventure. The pod is their mode of transport like Dr. Who uses a phone booth.
What other book might you compare A Trail Through Time to and why?
Dr. Who comes to mind with the spinning phone booth winding up somewhere else.

Cody Riggs, Adrienne the Oxford educated fair haired rocket who also is the sister of Cody's murdered girlfriend (nice scenario B.V., you sick bastard) , the Master Sergeant and Marvin - the greatest "artificial construct" in the Milky Way Galaxy all find themselves in deep intergalactic excreta through no fault of their own. Cody told the Captain to go armed to the feast - you will know what I mean very early in the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Marvin. He is the driver of the action, the brains of the operation and, when all hell breaks loose as humanity is 9/10's through its collective circling of the toilet flush of extinction, the ultimate savior of Earth based sentient life.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Marvin got the word that his dreams of finally assuming command of a ship were crushed after Cody recited the "Law of Trover" pointing out that Marvin never left the ship. I had a mind camera playing that showed Marvin drooping at what you may call his waist, all of his once flagellating arms limp and his head bowed in a posture of total resignation and defeat. I felt so sad for him. However, as is always the case, Marvin found a way to circumvent the situation and through sheer force of personality and shameless manipulation persuaded Cody to brevet him as Warrant Officer thereby elevating him to de facto Captain Marvin. I felt so proud of Marvin.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't cry. This wasn't really a "get the tissues ready" kind of audiobook. I did laugh a bunch of times whenever Marvin inserted his presence. As I have said before, and I will say it again, Marvin is the greatest non-human character in the history of everywhere. It doesn't matter what he says, I just start smiling and usually end up thrusting both hands in the air and shouting "Marvin!" I guess that is kind of extreme.
    Any additional comments?
Get this audiobook. New characters, some old ones, conniving homicidal carnivorous panda bears and tons of laser beam firing kill vehicles. Even the smarmy Crustacean professor guy is in the mix. All I can say is thank you Mr. Larsen for keeping Marvin alive as a character. My day got a bit brighter and lighter as I listened to Outcast.
So VERY GLAD it DIDN'T END!!
Rigs son is Very Much like his Father. A world of Bears! and another of Bird People. New bad things to fight. Lots of action.

    Publisher's Summary:
From New York Times best-selling author James S. A. Corey...
Before his trip to the stars, before the Rocinante, Amos Burton was confined to a Baltimore where crime paid you or killed you. Unless the authorities got to you first.
Set in the hard-scrabble solar system of Leviathan Wakes, Caliban's War, Abaddon's Gate, and the upcoming Cibola Burn, The Churn deepens James S. A. Corey's acclaimed Expanse series.

    Ruined by the narrator
The story was interesting and it was great to see the past of one of my favorite characters. The narrator though, was horrible. His voice was flat and at one point I was convinced the narration was being done by some text-to-speech software. It really distracted from the story and was a disappointment after the wonderful narration of the first three Expanse novels.
The Narration Killed This Poor Story
Well, this is odd! If you've seen my other reviews for the other expanse books, I've been all agog about their quality and the resourcefulness and general entertainment value. While this book is pretty much the reason why I don't do novella's in general. I enjoyed the idea of it, and what it was trying to show off, but the story really lacked any "pull" for me. The story for The Churn is entirely Earth based and gives you a pretty decent description of what the average life in a crowded, metro city, is like in the Expanse Universe. The city, Baltimore, has given way to a multitude of crime bosses, and organized black markets. There are multiple bosses who each keep a "family" of personal guards that operate the smuggling of goods, illegal memory implants, weapons smuggling, cybernetic implants etc. The story takes place over the course of about two days. The term The Churn, is referring to the Star Helix crackdown that is implemented on the city of Baltimore. The sweep is wide spread, and includes door to door checks, mass round ups, and many arrests take place.
This is a great place/event to have a story! Another bit of scene setting is that the story is given a very cyberpunkish feel. The main characters, a tag team duo, Timmy and Erich, are two very typical Earthers it seems. Themselves included, the people of Baltimore seem like to all verge on the edge of half hearted, petty crime, and desperate and sullen stagnation.
We're introduced also to a man, surprisingly named Amos Burton, a crime boss who has as few ethics as this book has pages. This is curious as that there is a person that has been come to be a trusted friend and companion of John Holden and the crew of the Rocinante.
    ***Spoilers Below***
At least for me, I knew something was up with this. I've read the first 4 books of the Expanse series, and it's been hinted at that Amos has had a checkered past. But something about the story and the appearance of the two characters Timmy and Erich had me skeptical about rather this was the Amos Burton that we know in the main story. The problem I have with this, is that the character that 'becomes' Amos... is *not* the same character that we know in the main story. Corey, for whatever reason, gives Timmy, who "becomes" Amos Burton seems to be a big ludditte. If you've ever read Of Mice and Men, Timmy is given the personality of Lenny. A big dumb brute who seems mentally challenged.
