    Publisher's Summary:
He's homeless. He's on the run. And he wants revenge.
Marcus Battle has left behind his home.
Now he's on a seemingly impossible mission to find a missing child. But can he balance that responsibility with his deep, primal desire to exact revenge on the men who destroyed his solitary existence?
The world he discovers on his journey isn't the one he remembers before a pneumonic plague called The Scourge killed two-thirds of the world's population. It is lawless, depraved, and far deadlier than the disease which created it.
Battle made a promise to find that child. It's a promise he regrets more acutely with every step of the journey where he is as much the hunter as he is the hunted.

    Battle is at it again!
Marcus Battle is back at it again. Picking up where Home left off, Battle is thrown into worse and worse situations as he is forced to face the ever-changing post-Scourge world.
The narration was done by Kevin Pierce, who also narrated the first book. Ive mentioned every time that I listen to a book narrated by Pierce that he has the perfect prepper type voice, and I felt that way again. But, his voice is synonymous with Battle in my eyes. They are the same person.
I really enjoyed Home, the first book in this series. Once I realized that there was more to the story, I couldnt wait to dive into Canyon. I was not disappointed. Canyon starts off right where Home left off and doesnt take its foot off the gas the entire story.
Battle is thrown into unbelievable circumstances over and over again and it seems like he can almost get through anything. And as the reader, you are taken along for the ride, thrown into scarier and scarier situations along with Battle and his small group of new friends.
I really enjoyed Home, but Canyons jumping back and forth between present and the past to give a much better background on Battle makes this book even better.
Im not one for spoilers, and I wont spoil anything by hinting, but the ending of this book was crazy. I had some sneaking suspicions throughout, but I was glad to have them confirmed at the end.
I will be eagerly awaiting the third book in this series to figure out what happens to Battle, and how he will defend his home, his friends, and his newly acquired accomplices.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
    Keeps getting better!!
Non stop action. Keeps getting better. Love the mixture of prepper, war tactics, and personal relationships. Kevin Pierce again doing an amazing job. Cant wait for the next book. If they continue this way, this series will be as famous as A. American Survival series.
    great
loved the book, narrator was top notch. waiting patiently for next book to be available.
    Another great story
Would you listen to Canyon again? Why?
No, even though I really enjoyed the book I rarely re-listen to books.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters were believable and Kevin Pierce keeps me glued onto the earbuds.
What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He just has a great narration.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did after the first one, well worth it!

This was an enjoyable story. Good action and an interesting protagonist.

    Title: Version Control
    Subtitle: A Novel
    Author: Dexter Palmer
    Narrator: January LaVoy
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 18 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-23-16
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 559 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
The acclaimed author of The Dream of Perpetual Motion returns with a compelling novel about the effects of science and technology on our friendships, our love lives, and our sense of self.
Rebecca Wright has reclaimed her life, finding her way out of her grief and depression following a personal tragedy years ago. She spends her days working in customer support for the Internet dating site where she first met her husband. But she has a strange, persistent sense that everything around her is somewhat off-kilter: She constantly feels as if she has walked into a room and forgotten what she intended to do there; on TV, the president seems to be the wrong person in the wrong place; her dreams are full of disquiet. Meanwhile, her husband's decade-long dedication to his invention, the causality violation device (which he would greatly prefer you not call a "time machine") has effectively stalled his career and made him a laughingstock in the physics community. But he may be closer to success than either of them knows or can possibly imagine.
Version Control is about a possible near future, but it's also about the way we live now. It's about smart phones and self-driving cars and what we believe about the people we meet on the Internet. It's about a couple, Rebecca and Philip, who have experienced a tragedy, and about how they help - and fail to help - each other through it. Emotionally powerful and stunningly visionary, Version Control will alter the way you see your future and your present.
    Critic Reviews:
"Mind-bending.... A compelling, thought-provoking view of time and reality." (Booklist)
"Far more than a standard-model time travel saga.... Palmer's lengthy, complex, highly challenging second novel is more brilliant than his debut, The Dream of Perpetual Motion.... Palmer earned his doctorate from Princeton with a thesis on the works of James Joyce, Thomas Pynchon, and William Gaddis. This book stands with the masterpieces of those authors." (Publishers Weekly)
"A Mobius strip of a novel in which time is more a loop than a path and various possibilities seem to exist simultaneously. Science fiction provides a literary launching pad for this audacious sophomore novel by Palmer. It offers some of the same pleasures as one of those state-of-the-union (domestic and national) epics by Jonathan Franzen, yet its speculative nature becomes increasingly apparent.... A novel brimming with ideas, ambition, imagination, and possibility yet one in which the characters remain richly engaging for the reader." (Kirkus Reviews)

    Any additional comments?
If Philip K. Dick hadn't spent so much of his energy chasing that dark haired girl, working feverishly under the effect of amphetamines to put out enough novels to pay alimony, and laboring under the weight of a culture defined by cynicism and ennui, perhaps he could have produced something as polished as this.
After all, the book has alternative timelines, a U.S. President who interrupts all citizens' phone calls and television shows (and as an apology pays for dessert), and simulacra that are created at a dating site. But it is also carefully crafted, well-paced, and polished. There was one plot diversion that was not well enough explained, but all in all, this was a very enjoyable, intelligent novel.

The spectacular fifth adventure in the genre-busting Ex-Heroes series.
The heroes are overjoyed when they discover another group of survivors living on a manmade island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. But there's something very, very wrong with this isolated community and its mysterious leader - a secret that could put every survivor in the world at risk.
    Members Reviews:
The superheroes head out to sea.
Book 5 of the Ex-Heroes series sees Peter Clines return the series to something a bit more traditional than the last book. In fact, if this was a TV series this book would be considered a filler episode with only some minor character development going on. The larger story arc doesn't move forward all that much but since all your favorite characters from the series return it is still quite enjoyable. Book 4 was weird enough that fans of the series like me will find that a nice solid "back to reality" story really hits the spot.
There are two main story threads going on throughout this book. The first is a good will mission to a man-made island in the Pacific known as Lumeria. Zzzap, St. George, and Corpse Girl are sent off to make contact with the island's survivors see if there is a way they can establish some kind of relationship or help out. The second story line revolves around setting up a new remote base known as Eden where Danielle, Cesar and the Cerberus suit are sent with some super soldiers to help establish a sustainable food source.
Of course nothing is easy in a zombie apocalypse and each story thread is full of complications and dire situations. Both threads are enjoyable but mostly because of the super hero characters and their personalities. Zzzap and his penchant for geek trivia makes for some excellent interactions with Corpse Girl who has a limited ability to remember anything. Danielle is suffering from a crisis of self doubt since she has been without the Cerberus suit for so long and her rebuild of the suit is not quite ready when it gets called into duty to help at Eden. This means it will be Cesar in control of the Cerberus suit and not Danielle and that exposes her psyche to further doubt and fear.
Despite the fact that I called this filler earlier I still enjoyed it. All of the narrators once again do excellent jobs and really bring each of the characters to life. I continue to look forward to where Peter Clines will take this series in the future.
    great continuation of the story!
I listened to this book in a single sitting feeling that they are to short, maybe they are but the continuation of the story is fun and worthy of its place in the books story line.
Very clever theme of good overcoming evil
The storyline and narrators make this series rock. The compulsion to survive takes many forms...it builds character or it exposes the lack there of. I hope this series continues as a new world evolves out of an apocalyptic ongoing event/events
The team is back together again!!!!
Yes!!!! Having both male and female voices to act this out is IMPORTANT and it was amazing to hear the team back together! I have no idea where this group of tales is going to go but heaven help me I love this series! Peter Clines don't stop - revisit this world as much as you can!!!
    More Ex!
Peter Clines' Ex series continues with Ex-Isle.

shame on you for milking a great story
7 & 8 should have been one story way to punish your loyal readers. Not cool
Probably won't start another Fuchs james series
Great story, but author seems to be more into quantity of books than quality. the first few books could stand on their own. but the last 5 should have been condensed into two.. don't get me wrong I really enjoy the story but lately after every book I kinda feel cheated. Being committed to the story, I will put up with the that feeling. but I will not be investing in anymore of Fuchs or James new series. It's sad because they write a good yarn.
Probably time to focus on quality not quantity.
I genuinely loved the first six books. I've felt the latter ones, this included, are sticking too much to a single event and just dragging it on and on. We're starting to pass immersion and move to gratuitous. I believe that book 7/8 probably should have been one single book. I'm afraid for the series in that quantity , although the books seem to be getting shorter and shorter , is now in demand of a publisher and is causing quality to suffer.
I'll stick with the series for the two more books but if there are any more to complete the entire tale they're going to have to recover some mojo of the earlier books in the series.
    awsome, story more!!!
this is killing me please get the next one done soon, can't wait for the mog!!!
one of the best series ever
I challenge anyone to put this series down. great story, strong characters. RC Bray one of the best if not the best narrator out there.

He thought he was prepared. He thought his family was safe. He was wrong.
Five years after a pneumonic plague killed two-thirds of the world's population, army veteran Marcus Battle is isolated. He's alone with his guns, his food, and the graves of his wife and child. Unaware of the chaos that's befallen everything outside of his central Texas ranch land, Marcus lives a Spartan life. If anyone steps onto his property, he shoots first and never asks questions. But when a woman in distress, chased by marauders, seeks asylum, Marcus has a decision to make. Does he throw her to the wolves to protect himself, or does he help her and leave the shelter and protection of home?
    Members Reviews:
One man, his home, his rules.
Marcus Battle was a prepper, he wasnt sure what was going to happen, but he knew something was going to happen sometime soon. He was prepared for almost anything, but when the pneumonic plague started to breakout in the US, he could only be so prepared. After nearly losing everything, the only thing that Battle had left was his home. The home that he prepped with his wife and son. The home that he needed to protect against anyone or anything.
Narration was done by Kevin Pierce, and I knew Id listened to another book he narrated once I looked it up I laughed. It was another prepper tale. He really has the perfect voice of a prepper, especially one that has a military background. Pierce just allows for the perfect flawed main character to shine strong (that and really good writing on Abrahams part).
The funniest thing about this book to me is that it wasnt toted as being a bio-thriller. The name plague wasnt in it, there were no biohazard symbols on the cover, and yet the scourge that was taking over and killing people was better documented than in most of the books Ive read lately. Seriously, I wouldnt in any way describe this as a bio-thriller, but it has elements of it.
Battle was an interesting main character and protagonist. There were things that he would say or do that could or would turn off most people from liking him if you didnt understand his story. But the way Abrahams would flip back and forth from backstory to present day made the story really fall together. Honestly when an author flips so much its usually hard to follow but this really helped make a simple story come to life. Yes, its about a man surviving on his land by his terms, but it was so much more.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable story. I found myself wanting to sit in my car longer to hear just a little more, or staying up a little too late. Abrahams has a way of keeping the readers hanging on every word. This finished, and I really wanted more. But at the same time it was the perfect, the story arc was complete with room to add more in the next book.
Another thing that I noticed was that a lot of prepper books feel like they have an agenda. Either trying to see things the way they do, or promoting a certain political party. This book was different. It was written as a post-apocalyptic and dystopian novel first, with a little bit of prepper mentality sprinkled in.
Now, I have to wait until the next book is on audiobook and hope that Kevin Pierce narrates it.

What did you love best about Death of Empires?
After reading all 6 titles previously in this series, it was nice to see some answers given, like how, why and where. Excellent. Enthusiastically waiting for the rest of the series.
Have you listened to any of R. C. Brays other performances before? How does this one compare?
R.C. Bray is simply my fave narrator, incredible range with the different characters and performance is simply outstanding. Totally enjoyed the performance.

Really enjoyed both books thus far.
Mark is one of the best performers out there. I am looking forward to book three!
    Great
Great book , great narrator enjoyed very much. Would recommend this trilogy. Can't wait for the third book.
As good if not better than book 1
After finishing this second book of the trilogy and contemplating my rating, I feel a bit like Olympic Game judges who rated the earlier performances so high that they left little room to rated later better performances.
Still, I don't regret the 5 star rating of the first book since I thoroughly enjoyed it and still believe it was worthy of the rating; so my rating for this book will be a 5+ stars via my comments.
As I've come to expect, Mark Boyett's performance of the novel is superb.
Great continuation of the story and performance
I could not wait for the second book to come out. I was not disappointed. The story and the performance were excellent. Great sci-fi listen. Highly recommended. With a cliffhanger at the end, I may just have to order a regular book to read the finale.
    Mark.Boyett masterfully delivers slow-ish story
Uneven story tempo & some dialog contrived. Masterful performance by Mark Boyett dramatically resurrects what would be average 3 star book to.4+.

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
In The Borrowed World, Franklin Horton showed us an America brought to its knees by a nationwide terror attack. The target? The American infrastructure.
Cell phone connections were sporadic. Electrical power was failing. Mortar attacks on major fuel refineries had created a gas shortage, stranding travelers throughout the country. One of those stranded travelers, Jim Powell, and his group of coworkers were frantically trying to make their way home using the gear on their backs and whatever other means they found at their disposal. It was a journey racked with violent, deadly encounters and exhausting physical demands, pushing each of them to the brink of their abilities. Meanwhile, on the other side of Virginia, Jim's family was facing its own struggle as desperate neighbors began to turn against each other with increasing brutality.
In the second book in this series, Ashes of the Unspeakable, we find Jim and his group still struggling to reach home. While just a few days have passed since the initial attack, the group finds that its country is quickly descending into a vicious, chaotic landscape where nothing comes easy. While they fight to close the distance between them and their loved ones, they cannot avoid the steadily growing number of people who have realized that they can get away with whatever they want in a world where there are no longer any legal consequences for their actions.
At home, Jim's family is basically forced into lockdown after a local jail discharges its starving inmates, leading to the arrival of a new, extremely violent presence in their valley. The stranger sets his sights on driving other families from their homes and taking what they own. As Jim races home, his wife Ellen struggles to keep her family safe, while each night a neighbor's home is burned to the ground.

    GET HOME BAG
This was an excellent book 2. I liked book one, a slight bit better. I am usually disappointed with the second book in most series, but not in this case. The professional writing and exciting story continues. Added are questions about what happens to prisoners and mental hospitals during times like these. How will groups like the Amish be affected? In this installment, Jim's boy Peter grows into a man. The prologue and chapter one, do an excellent job of covering the first book, so if for some reason you can't listen to book one first, you will not be lost.
    MOVIE AWARD SHOWS
The main character, Jim, is not the most politically correct. Like most books like these there is the very conservative, gun rights, anti-welfare comments. There are some conservative lectures, thinly disguised as discussions and there are plenty of I Told You So, incidents. He tries to cover his anti-trailer park remarks late in the book. The book is very entertaining with lots of information and has motivated me to get prepared for the next ice storm.
    I will continue this series.

for me this is the best book on audible. especially because of kevin peirce.

James S.A. Corey and Jefferson Mays!
I could listen to Jefferson Mays read these authors' writing anytime. I wish he would re-record the other stories that Erik Davies narrated.
The Story itself is a good expanse side story with a little different background on the protomolecule.
A bit of background detail for the Expanse series
This novella (or maybe really more of a novelette) is one of several that the authors of the Expanse series have written, fleshing out the minor characters and events that were mostly off-screen in the main novels.
The Vital Abyss is a sort of a prequel to the series, filling in some backstory. In the opening, we are introduced to the main character, who as a first person narrator describes being imprisoned in some station somewhere by Martians. We don't immediately know why he and his fellow scientists are imprisoned, but when their jailers begin asking questions and looking for someone with the scientific know-how to answer some mysterious question, our protagonist begins scheming his way out, no matter what the cost. So does everyone else, and this is when the clues that have been dropped begin to fit together.
The narrator interleaves his current situation with his upbringing, and how he became the amoral sociopath he is today.
It's an interesting story, though really only for the Aha! moment when you realize where this fits into the Expanse timeline. But I can't say it was above average, as it didn't tell us anything new about the universe and the protagonist is not the sort of person whose fate you're likely to care about. Still, anyone who's already a fan of the Expanse series should enjoy this.

They seem to be able to inhibit their antisocial impulses most of the time, not because of conscience, but because it suits their purpose at the time. This short story about the researchers who unleash the Protomolecule. What could they have been thinking? How could they show so little regard for others? The Josef Mengeles of the future. The story is ok. It is good background information but it lacks the characters who fight against evil and make the Expanse stories so good.
    Are you kidding me?
I would have been pissed if I found out about this much later. This is basically a huge backstory dump for the setup of the first book, and then some.

    Publisher's Summary:
There is a fine line between right and wrong, good and evil. For years Jason Burke has straddled that line as best he can, always convinced that despite the violence carried out by him and his team they were firmly on the right side of that line. But as he reflects on his time with Omega Force, he begins to have his doubts.
When strange happenings from the mysterious Avarian Empire cross the expanse and Jason and Omega Force are pulled into the conflict, they must pick sides between two superpowers, all without knowing whom they can trust. At every turn, friends reveal themselves to be enemies, and enemies might be friends. All he knows for certain is that if they make it through the mission things will never be as they were.

    Top Notch
What do you do when you're accidentally kidnapped from planet earth in a spaceship? Escape your captor, rescue people in trouble, and kick some ass along the way?
    Yes, please!
This is one of my favorite science fiction series of all time. It's fun, witty, ridiculous, and the characters are absolutely fantastic.
Paul Heitsch delivers time and again in each book of this series. He is able to impart a distinct characteristic and tone of voice for each of the many different types of characters and peoples.
I sincerely hope to see many more books in this series for years to come.
**Full disclosure: I received a review copy of this book.**
    7 audiobooks in 7 days!
I don't usually have that much time, I was captivated with the characters, the stories and the narrator. This was fun! All 7 of these books had what I think it takes to be a classic Science Fiction series. Great moral issues but not overly. Scientific theory was good but not in depth. Great action scenes. Was not overly sexual, in fact it was vague in that he did not go into specifics of sex between two "aliens". (It does leave me a bit curious). the narrators performance I thought was as good as any of the Scott Bricks and Dick Hills; well, close.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, this was a great story/series. Very entertaining. All the characters are likable. The story itself was just as engaging as the rest
What was one of the most memorable moments of Redemption?
Jason gets as much tail as capt kirk.
