    Publisher's Summary:
Los Angeles of 2039 is a baffling and bifurcated place. After the Collapse of 2028, a vast section of LA, the Disincorporated Zone, was disowned by the civil authorities and became essentially a third world country within the borders of the city. Navigating the boundaries between DZ and LA proper is a tricky task, and there's no one better suited than eccentric private investigator Erasmus Keane.
When a valuable genetically altered sheep mysteriously goes missing from Esper Corporation's labs, Keane is the one they call. But while the erratic Keane and his more grounded partner, Blake Fowler, are on the trail of the lost sheep, they land an even bigger case. Beautiful television star Priya Mistry suspects that someone is trying to kill her - and she wants Keane to find out who. When Priya vanishes and then reappears with no memory of having hired them, Keane and Fowler realize something very strange is going on.
As they unravel the threads of the mystery, it soon becomes clear that the two cases are connected - and both point to a sinister conspiracy involving the most powerful people in the city. Saving Priya and the sheep will take all of Keane's wits and Fowler's skills, but in the end they may discover that some secrets are better left hidden.

The Big Sheep unravels into an incredible mystery
Robert Kroese is a shocking talent. His last book, Starship Grifters was a hilarious story that surprised me with its complexity in the end. While that was labeled as a space opera satire, it really had a strong mystery element. That had me very excited for this future noir mystery in The Big Sheep, and I was more than impressed with how he delivered.
The story is a sheep kidnapping turned into a sneak peak in how cloning and a civil collapse within America might change the face of the entertainment industry, not to mention the power structure of authority. Within this very unique plot Kroese delivers witty and lighthearted humor, but the main strength is that we hit a plot climax halfway through that would have been good enough for some people to end on. Kroese instead builds level by level of unraveling mystery into the people we've met and the darkness of their plans and past, while also showing issues of the heart that really drive home our empathy and desire for them to either survive or be thrown off a cliff. I kept wondering if I was going to figure out a clue ahead of time, but Kroese stayed one step ahead all the way to the end. Even now I'm shocked at what just happened.
The narrator, Fred Berman, was equally as superb. Every voice and the tension and humor delivered in every scene made him the perfect compliment to Kroese's authorial voice.
I hate to say it, since Starship Grifters was so hysterical, but this is my favorite Kroese book to date.
    Fun, inventive, hilarious
I loved some of the author's other books (Starship Grifters, Mercury Trilogy) so I thought I'd give this one a shot. I was blown away. Excellent from start to finish.
Clever, Engaging, What Sci-Fi Should Be
Science Fiction is at its best when it is a metaphor for something we face today. It just so happens when you make it funny and quirky and fill it with a bunch of plot twists, you get smart entertainment.
Robert Kroese, author of the very complex and witty and yet slapstick Starship Grifters, delivers a grand slam with Big Sheep.

    Enjoyed immensely !
I've listened to all three of this series and highly recommend them ! A librarian friend of mine bird dogged this author for me . Not all of her books appeal to me , But lt is my hope this author continues this series . Awesome !
Good not Great, but still entertaining.
Where does Battle Group Avalon rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It's a decent space opera. Not up to the level of the Ember War Series, or Expeditionary Force, but it is entertaining.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I really tire of the Heterosexual (most / Homosexual / Hyper-sexual / Hermaphrodite thing that keeps coming up. WE GET IT GLYNN!! You think in the 28th Century all sexuality will be accepted. It just takes away from a story about resisting tyranny.
    Another painful read
Same as others in series. Under dog versus might power. The side plots are lame and cliche. I bought first three books in series because I had some planned time to kill. Not buying the last book.
    meh
I read the first two books in this series hence me purchasing this one but this was really quite boring. I f you like long involved battles it might be for you but that's all it was: no plot beyond the battle. The one good thing I can say is that the narration was fine. Out of over 200 audio books I have purchased this will be the second I request a refund on (and to be fair, the first one I returned was because it had over half a chapter missing in the middle).
    I couldn't finish it
first book, interesting new characters, interesting "new" situation. second book, who's trying to kill the captain mystery. this book? battles battles battles...it just got old. I'll try again maybe one day ... maybe ...

End of the three book series
This book will make no sense at all unless Home and Canyon, the first novels in the series, are read first. Wall concludes the series. The Traveler is a well written and very well narrated dystopian series. The ending is not great but is as good as can be expected considering the nature of the crisis. Ultimately the story is about the difference on person, Marcus Battle, can make.
Great Read! Got hooked, bought all books.
Seems like all Kevin Pierce books I've listened to have been great. Very enjoyable.
    A Battle Is Coming...
A battle is coming, well make that two battles. One actual battle between the two sides and Marcus Battle, the incredibly resilient good guy in the Traveler Series.
The narration for Wall was done by Kevin Pierce who has done the entire Traveler series and done an awesome job on them. As I've stated time and time again, Pierce just has one of those voices that really makes these post-apocalyptic stories. It's no wonder he's been featured over and over again on my blog considering that's one my favorite genres.
The story picks up where the other two have left off, so I may give some spoilers away. Battle is still alive and kicking and is now called upon to help more people once again. I really like the inner angst that Abrahams plays off of. Battle is a mess internally. He's fighting a lot of demons that would cause a lesser man to crumble. I think that it's written beautifully -- allowing Battle to have his moments, but also recover from them and grow because of them.
The combination of Abrahams writing style and Pierce's narration really made this book blow by. It felt like one moment I was just starting chapter 1 and the next the book was almost over. Not every book can do that, but this one definitely made the time evaporate.
Overall, the story was a little different from the first two Traveler books but was different in a needed way. This book had a lot of conclusions and endings to things. Without giving anything away, I will say that I was happy and a bit surprised by the ending.
I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Took a little bit for me to get into it. But once I did I was hooked! Out standing series!
    Great series.
This was an awesome series. I wish there was more to come. I can see Battle having some more issues to deal with.

Sails similar waters to the Ancillary series
    Any additional comments?
I had to re-listen to this book to figure out whether I liked it or not (I was already impressed by the language and characters).
That sounds like faint praise but for me it means that the book was complex enough that I needed another go round to understand everything.
It's definitely worth a listen if you like the Ancillary books (although AI plays a very minor role).
    Outstanding Plot and Wonderful Narration
What did you love best about Ninefox Gambit?
Emily Woo Zeller's narration made the book come alive, she is a treasure. Only made better by a well-written and expertly plotted story.
    Any additional comments?
A must-read for science fiction fans. The book is tightly plotted and intricate, dropping the reader right into an unfamiliar future, with any explanation and context shown in glimpses, bits, and gradually over time. As alien as the technology and society are, the humans are still human, enmeshed in intrigue and camaraderie, betrayal and power struggles. Though the book is short (under 400 pages), it has all the feel of a sweeping space opera, but in the vein of Herbert's Dune, with Machiavellian political maneuvering, and a dash of Starship Troopers or Forever War in a certain glee of military planning. This is the first in a series and though left in a cliffhanger, the story of the initial book is nicely wrapped up so you aren't left completely in exquisite anticipation. I cannot wait for the next entry.
Just too confusing with enough context
I listened to the whole book because I really wanted to give it a chance, but I just couldn't enjoy it.
The technology described in the book is confusing and the author fails to give enough of a description or context to help the reader understand what he heck they are talking about. Those description of the entire society structure is confusing and never contains enough information to help the reader understand what is the purpose of it all or what the characters are even talking about. I'm as clueless now as I was at the beginning, but now I'm frustrated.

Worse, they are followed by a man bent on their destruction, who would take her farm for his own group if he can find it. As the clan continues its trek, invaders solidify their iron grip over the Eastern Seaboard, opposed by a resistance aided by a mysterious group known only as "the 20s", whose identities and ultimate goals remain unknown. Events begin to unfold that will determine the future of Cassy and her new family, and possibly the future of America.

The clan makes the long trip home...
Cassie and team (or clan as they've taken to call themselves) are back at it again. This time, they are traveling across the perilous countryside trying to get to her homestead outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Along the way, they will come across many problems, some external, and some internal.
The narration for EMP Exodus was done by Kevin Pierce. If you are first time reader of my blog and read this review for the first time you don't know how much I enjoy Pierce's voice, especially for Prepper-type books. He really has the perfect voice for the type of person that I imagine is a prepper. Pierce's voice allows for this story to just flow off of the page and into your ears.
EMP Exodus was enjoyable but finished just when the story started getting good! Don't get me wrong, the story was still good, but being a series book -- it just ended when things were really getting interesting. Like I genuinely thought I had at least another hour left in the book when I hear "this concludes EMP Exodus.." I was shocked!
The book has a lot of internal struggle in it. Both within the group and within certain members of the clan. I found that to be really interesting and I found myself really invested in these characters. I know that some of them were from the first book, but it was nice to get an even deeper dive into their views. You don't normally get that in the second book in a series.
If all three are available (as long as the third finishes the series), I would definitely try to line them up and listen to them in order. The stories really play off of each other and this one picks up right where the first book left off. And I know that the third book will do the same.
Overall, a really enjoyable prepper book filled with internal struggles and a lot of prepper knowledge and instinct narrated by the wonderful Kevin Pierce.
I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Someone owes me a new keyboard
This is the funniest thing I've heard in years, and Adam Baldwin's performance only makes it better. His mastery of the Manatee language is unparalleled. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to listen to it again.
    Most Unlikely Hero Ever!
I just finished listening to this and am not quite sure what hit me.
Larry Correia has invented the most unlikely hero ever: an insurance agent dedicated to satisfying his customers' insurance needs because poor customer service is the ultimate sin. If you can suspend your disbelief and wrap your mind around THAT wild idea, you are in for an equally wild ride.
Garfield the Cat is a Dark God, Bear Grylls is a metric, Chuck Norris is a KickA** Arbiter and Terminators are people too. Many of our favorite sci-fi heroes and shows make cameo appearances, including the author himself.
Of course the hero has his burden to bear: the intern with the gender-studies degree. But Tom Stranger carries on with panache.
Adam Baldwin was terrific. You need to listen to this. Now.
YOUR IN STRANGE HANDS, WITH STRANGER AND STRANGER
    WHAT'S A CANADIAN?
When you can travel between dimensions and encounter different you's, different but similar worlds, the laughs and possibilities are infinite. Think of a world in which there is no Canada or in which Cookie Monster is a bad guy. HE DREW HIS DRY ERASE MARKER FROM HIS DRY ERASE HOLDER. It may sound scary, but you will be okay if your country has insurance with STRANGER AND STRANGER, whose multiple TOM STRANGER agents are the best in the multiverse, and it is all held together by CHUCK NORRIS.
    NACHOS
This is laugh out loud, roll on the ground funny. I have not laughed this hard since my last Scalzi novel. I understand it is only free till June 21st, so get it now, and by all means if you travel in free fall, watch out for the INCOMING SECOND HAND NACHOS.
Baldwin was awesome on the voiceover
The writing is funny enough but Baldwin puts it over the top.

    Exciting continuation of this series!
The Lost Colony have some exciting twists and turns that leaves the reader in excited emotional turmoil, provided one negates some points of reality!
For example, Parkar's capture and subsequent interrogation where the Newman is not under chains and not locked to the floor by said chains, and the table is not bolted to the floor, making possible for his subsequent escape and causing havoc! Why would there be armed guards in the interrogation room with him where he has access to weapons? After all, he is a Newman, with super human abilities!
After all these books are fantasies!
Still a good book and worth the purchase and read or listen!!
Loved it, left me wanting more!
Great story line throughout the book series with progressive development of stories and characters. Lots of strategies that work well and lend believability. A fun, can't stop now read.
Mark Boyett is a great narrator with different voices for each character.
    the series keeps getting better
Excellent story and outstanding performance. I really enjoyed this book! The series continues to be entertaining and character development continues to be interesting.
    Excellent story
I read the first two books about a year. they were okay but I wasn't very enthused to move on to the next one. I finally picked up the third book recently and really liked it. This fourth book was even better and I am so glad that I got caught up on the series.
the storyline kind of takes a new twist in the last two books but it's a good one, I think. Also I've gotten to know the characters better so I can relate to them muchbetter as the series progresses.
I really like the fact that Driving Force Galleon and Captain Maddox have become friends. at first I thought that Maddox was such a stiff and so arrogant but that was part of the character-building. as the story moves along, his character becomes more flexible and is easier to relate to.
this is a great series with great characters
have been enjoying all the books in the series, the characters move from one challenge to another somehow always finding a way to keep going.

    Publisher: Franklin Horton
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 1857 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
In his best-selling novels, The Borrowed World and Ashes of the Unspeakable, Franklin Horton showed us a nation facing societal collapse from a coordinated ISIS attack on the American infrastructure. Most of the country is without power, communication, and fuel. As a result of the attack, a group of business travelers in Virginia found themselves among the millions stranded on the highways with no idea how they would be getting home.
In this third installment, Legion of Despair, the country is teetering on the brink of anarchy. While one of the stranded travelers, Jim Powell, made it home and is working to establish a safe, sustainable enclave for his family, his co-workers Gary and Alice are not faring as well. After spending hundreds of painful miles dreaming of his reunion with his family, Gary arrives home only to find his family under attack. Now he must face the painful decision as to whether his family's plan to bug-in is viable or whether they may need greater numbers and a better location to survive in this collapsing nation.
While Gary's homecoming is bittersweet, he has at least found his way into the arms of his family. His co-worker, Alice, has awakened on the cold, concrete floor of a basement in Bluefield, Virginia. She is bound and chained to a support column. She doesn't know if she will ever see her son or husband again. All she knows for certain is that the man in front of her has already brutally killed her friend, Rebecca, and unless she finds a way out, he will kill her, too.

    IT'S A SELFISH WORLD
A HOUSE COULD BE REBUILT, A FAMILY COULD NOT
I have touted Horton's talent in several reviews and refer to him as the go to apocalypse (without zombies) writer. This is a good book and is better than the best of others, but I will admit I did not enjoy this book as much as the first two. Part of that is because the main character is Gary, not Jim. Gary is just not as interesting. It also took a long time for me to get invested in this story. The action scenes, just did not seem as intense as in the first two books. It is still worth four stars and I will continue the series.
THE TRAIL LED TO THE PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Horton is political, but no where near as strong as other authors in this field. His political tidbits are few and far between, but they are still there. In previous books, he has belittled those who live in trailer houses. In this book, the trouble makers come from Public Housing and apartments. We are told that all moped drivers are people who lost their license, due to DUI's. Maybe true, I don't know. I found it ironic that we are told only druggies, break into buildings and steal. We are told this as Gary is using a stolen key to break into a building and steal a government owned box truck. In the process, they tare the place up when they steal a fork lift they don't know how to operate. I find this a constant in these books, it is always awful when others break into houses, steal cars, steal food, steal gas, but when the main character does these things, that is Okie Dokie.
    Pierce
Pierce has an authoritative voice which demands respect.

Ethan is a hacker and conspiracy nut living underground. Frank is a family man out camping with friends and family. When a devastating EMP attack in the middle of the night destroys America's infrastructure, they are propelled on an unforgettable journey across an ocean of chaos to reach safety...Safety from an unknown invader and from once-fellow Americans now hungry and desperate. Dark New World is a prepper story of survival and the fight to retain humanity in the face of an apocalyptic event.

    Better Than Expected
Got this as just something in between - waiting for my pre-order to come in. Pleasantly surprised. Story is about several characters, main one is a mother trying to get to her mother's house to save her children after an EMP. She winds up meeting several groups along the way and invites one group to join her (which they do at a much later point.) She is a semi prepper although not a trained soldier or what I would call a true survivalist at this point but she learns quickly.
Fast moving story with more behind the scenes action like a full out attack of (unknown origin soldiers) against the US. Story is told from several view points which is refreshing. Although a lot happens in a short time, the story moves on tying all the pieces together. I believe this is going to be a great series.
I usually try to buy books that are at least 8 hours long for my travels and this would be a short criticism. I always feel my credits should be saved for the longer books but at some point I will get the next one in this series.
    Excellent
Dark New World goes beyond the typical EMP story. It addresses the cause of the EMP and the added challenges faced by the characters. It is written in a very realistic manner--which makes it even more intense than typical books in the genre. I have already purchased the next two in the series. I have an urge to stock up on MRE's and canned food after finishing this.
    Loved it!
As always, Kevin Pierce is an excellent narrator! I always enjoy his work! He's an excellent story teller and does a great job with character voices! I love a good post apocalyptic or post disaster story. Looking forward to book 2!

    Any additional comments?
It is good to be prepared for things to come.
After an EMP, it really is a Dark New World
An EMP has gone off and now power is out everywhere around them. Follow numerous people as they try to survive in this ever changing dark new world.
The narration was done by Kevin Pierce. This is the second prepper series that Ive listened to that Pierce has narrated and I will reiterate that he has the perfect prepper type voice.

    The Adventure Continues
A good second installment. Overall enjoyable, enough twists and turns, unexpected developments to keep it interesting. Performance of Mr Lee is outstanding. I enjoyed his voice selections for the various characters. At times gets bogged down by too much emotional baggage from the various characters tormenting themselves with self doubt, second guessing, etc. Overall I highly recommend it.
    First-Rate
Identical to the first book, this starts out slow, but then the engines ignite, the Gs hit and I was thrust into Military Sci-Fi that consumed all my free time.
    Good Fun
Sci-Fi as it should be. Can't wait for the next book! My only regret is that is should be longer so I could enjoy it more.
    So sad when it ended.
Really love this story. Can't wait for the next one in this series. Also really like the reader's reading and hope he continues as well.
    Good space opera...
Would you listen to Drysine Legacy again? Why?
Yes once enough of the series is out I'll likely listen in order.
    Any additional comments?
Enjoyable story, plenty of action, bigger than life characters, exciting large scale space combat... what's not to like!
