As if worrying about his involvement in a case he wont talk about at all wasnt bad enough, Alison is forced to take over the womens basketball team at St. Thomas after the coach dies of a heart attack during a game. She may not know much about basketball, but shes no stranger to sleuthing, and it isnt long before she suspects that the coachs death may be more than unexpected but premeditated as well. With Bobby deep undercover and Alison always on her way to deep trouble, its only a matter of time before they run smack into each other in Physical Education, the latest in Maggie Barbieris charming Murder 101 mystery series.

"I try to stay out of trouble."
In Maggie Barbieri's latest mystery, "Physical Education," English professor Alison Bergeron is happily married to NYPD Detective Robert Crawford. Bobby is "true blue," affectionate, and a hunk, to boot. Sure, he has eighteen-year-old twin stepdaughters, one of whom is unpredictable and surly. In addition, his job keeps him away from home more than Alison would like. Nevertheless, "Detective Hot Pants," as Alison's cheeky girlfriend, Max Rayfield, calls him, is everything Alison could want in a husband.
After just a few months of wedded bliss, however, things start to go downhill for the hapless Alison, who is employed by her alma mater, St. Thomas, "a small Catholic university located at the northernmost tip of New York City." First, a dead body is found in the trunk of Alison's car (not the first time this has happened); second, she catches Bobby in a series of transparent lies; next, she is saddled with a job for which she is singularly ill-equipped--interim coach of the St. Thomas University basketball team, known as the Blue Jays. The Jays have not won a game all season, and with Alison at the helm, the team's resurgence is unlikely. In spite of her personal problems, Alison finds time to pump everyone she knows about the firing of Father Kevin McManus, a liberal priest who left St.
