    Title: Schmidt Delivered
    Author: Louis Begley
    Narrator: George Guidall
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 12 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-08-11
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 9 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Best-selling author Louis Begley created a beguiling icon of middle age in About Schmidt. Recently widowed, pushed into retirement by his law firm, at odds with his family, Albert Schmidt captivated readers with his cautious courage. Now he is facing ever mounting challenges of life, love, and age. Schmidt is happy living with his affectionate young girlfriend, Carrie. His grumpy daughter, on the other hand, seems to want only money from him. What really disturbs Schmidt, however, is the growing attention of his neighbor, the exotic Michael Mansour. Wealthy and persistent, Mansour seems determined to draw Schmidt into his lavish personal and financial affairs. Louis Begleys aim is perfect as he targets the joys and pitfalls facing our graying hero.

    Keep Schmidt Alive
Would you listen to Schmidt Delivered again? Why?
I may. I really like the book and got a lot of it in the gym and the car, so I had distractions. I love the Schmidt series. I missed this one somehow and it was out of sync with the rest of the Schmidt books.
What other book might you compare Schmidt Delivered to and why?
Well, it was a continuation done beautifully of About Schmidt, which I loved and would read again and recommend to any man my age, or within ten years. (I'm 76)...I loved Schmidt Steps Back, as well and I could picture Jack Nicholson as Schmidt throughout all the book(s) and that really helps the character, although I thought the movie was boring and dragged; it needed the Schmidt narrative.
Which character as performed by George Guidall was your favorite?
Carrie...but to tell you the truth about George Guidall, he brings women to life like no other reader, even Frank Muller (god bless) didn't compare and, of course, Schmidt.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh, cry and curse (at the daughter), before she died. The flirting with anti-Semitism annoyed me, as a Jew. The in-laws were annoying, but then, what psychiatry's aren't annoying?
    Any additional comments?
I totally identified with Schmidt and have gone down many of the same roads as he. So Lou, keep them coming! And use George Guidall for anything that you write in the future...please!
    Near Perfect
Excellent characterization and setting. Up until the end, the story was believable. The ending however was poorly constructed and hard to believe. Begley is less convincing when he tries to make nice.

    Okay book
The story in itself was decently written but the plot was kind of boring. There was no climax, and it was pretty predictable.
    Great Read!!
Althought I didn't like some of the events that happened in the book I found it to be a very good read. I had become "attached" to some of the characters after reading "The People Next Door" and I was not disappointed. GREAT READ!!
    Trouble Down The Road
This book definitely was a great sequel to 'The People Next Door'. The drama continues with a whole lot more. Suzanne Betancourt is still jealous of her husband's ex-wife and his daughter with her. She is still taking sides with her trifling family over her husband and the outcome may destroy her family. You will not be able to put this book down until the end to find out what happens.
    The characters kept me entrigued
This is the first book I've read from this author and I was eager to do so because I've read glowing reviews. The storyline themselves are interesting enough to keep me glued to the pages, even though there's nothing really outstanding. The characters however, intrigued me the most because they all had their flaws and were relatable in that regard. They made decisions that were frustrating, shared thoughts that were nerve racking...no one was perfect and I loved that. Lessons were learnt by some, while there were a few who just couldn't change - now that's real life and I loved that. There was no magic wand waved at the end where everyone realized their mistakes, righted their wrongs, then proceeded to live happily ever after. Perfect! My only real issue is that at times the author seemed to forget which character she was focusing on and would confuse their names..the first time it happened really frustrated me because it threw me off the storyline for a bit - so much so that I read over a few pages to see if I had perhaps misread something before. Then when it happened again and then again, I just took it in stride. It didn't really affect the way I felt about the story itself. I would definitely read another novel from this author.
It was great to see what happened to the characters of both ...
This book was a catch up to two different books, The People next door and Nothing but trouble. It was great to see what happened to the characters of both books ( I was not aware that it contained people from both books until I started reading it). I really enjoyed seeing the outcome.

    Title: The Consequences of Love
    Author: Sulaiman Addonia

Length: 8 hrs and 48 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-22-11
    Publisher: Random House AudioBooks
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Under the hot sun, the Jeddah streets make a scene from an old black-and-white movie: the women dressed like long, dark shadows and the men in their light cotton tunics. Nasers friends have all left town for cooler climes but he cant get away: hes an outsider in Saudi and he needs to hold down his job at the local carwash. During his time off, he sits beneath his favourite palm tree, writing to the mother he has left behind in Africa and yearning for the glamorous Egyptian actress he hopes to meet one day. Its hard to adjust to a world that puts up so many barriers between men and women: walls in the mosque, divider panels in the buses and veils on the street.
Naser feels increasingly trapped, not least by the religious police who keep watch through the shaded windows of their government jeeps. A splash of colour arrives in Nasers world when, unexpectedly, a small piece of paper is dropped at his feet. It is a love note, from a woman whose face he has never seen and whose voice he has never heard. She tells him that she will wear a pair of pink shoes the next time she passes so that he can pick her out from the other women in their identical black abayas. Erotic tension runs high; Naser and his habibati begin to exchange letters. But in moments of doubt the pink shoes seem to lead him into a cul-de-sac of thwarted desire, fraught with danger.
Relationships between unmarried men and women are illegal under the strict Wahhibism of Saudi state rule and its not long before their real, but illicit, love must face the hardest test of all

    A gripping and fascinating read
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am not usually an avid reader of fiction but have no hesitation in recommending this book which I bought it because I am interested in the Middle East and the story sounded intriguing. I was not disappointed. Once I had started listening I couldn't stop - I was gripped by the narrative but also learned a lot about life in Saudi Arabia. It was an unusual plot and held my attention until the last page. I had the impression that it was also rather autobiographical as the author, like the main character, was born in Sudan and went to Saudi Arabia as a child. It was a pleasure to listen to as the narrator was excellent. Definitely a five star rating on all counts
What did you like best about this story?
It is told from an unusual angle and is very well paced. Although it is a love story it is never sugary or melodramatic and one can identify with the protagonist. In addition I learned a lot about Saudi society
What does Christopher Simpson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
It was easier to identify with the narrator as the book was read by a young man. I also thought that Simpson was able to transmit the narrator' s emotions very successfully.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The girl with the pink shoes.
    Any additional comments?
A great book. I will be looking out for others by the same author
