Home is the first space.

Work is the second space. 

And the third space represents a place distinct from both.

It is in this place that we are rejuvenated, that we interact with others and pursue extracurricular passions.

The third space typically refers to a communal gathering place such as a pub, a stadium, or a museum. 

But Russell and I talk about that space in relation to our hobby's. That things that pulls us into the moment and forces us to set home life and work life aside for a time.

Russell told a story on how he shared about his weird hobby, blacksmithing, and asked a mastermind group of his peers what their "weird thing" was.  

In turn each person shared their hobby that sparked joy and was something different than the norm. One built Earthships, another was into tiny houses, and another filled in potholes while no one was looking.

At the end of the conversation the most stressed person of the entire group didn't have anything that he could speak to that he did outside of work and home. 

Stress is real. Chronic stress can kill you. Find your outlet and embrace your weird thing.

This conversation inspired me to get back into my weird hobby: breeding fancy guppies.

Some books are a lifetime in the making.

That's the case with Eliza VanCort's best seller, A Woman's Guide to Claiming Space: Stand Tall, Raise Your Voice, Be Heard.

When Eliza was four years old she was kidnapped by her mother multiple times and taken across the country.

Success is exhilarating.

And it can be a prison.

Rosa Smith Montanaro was at the forefront of internet coaching and course creation when her book, Mind Over Platter, came out in the early 2000's. She received the E-Business Executive of the Year award in 2004 for the work she was doing serving her fitness clients.

As her clientele asked for more tips, meal plans, and nutrition help, she continued to educate herself and collect certifications to fit their needs.

Over time she drifted more into what she loved: coaching and alternative modalities for helping people find breakthroughs.

Footage from this game went viral.

Jason McElwain won an Espy and wrote a book. His coach, Jim Johnson, went on to become a motivational speaker and author.

Their lives were changed forever.

One decision opened up this world of possibilities.

High school basketball coach Jim Johnson let the team manager, Jason McElwain (J Mac), play in the closing minutes of Senior Night.

What happened in the following three minutes inspired the world.

What most people don't talk about are the years leading up to "the moment."

Jason had tried out for the team every year and didn't have the skill set to make it as a player.

Most players that didn't make the team never came back to try out again. But Jim Johnson took it a step further.

He drove J Mac to summer practices, he got to know him, and he made him the team manager each year he tried out.
