All indications are that we could see a tropical depression form way out in the deep tropical Atlantic somewhere south of the Cape Verde Islands over the next few days. This would be very early in the season for this to be happening and a sign that we are, in fact, in for a busy season ahead.

Meanwhile, another tropical wave will bring showers and thunderstorms to portions of the Lesser Antilles as it moves west and across that region over the next couple of days.

And finally, we should see a tropical depression form in the east Pacific off the coast of Mexico that may go on to become the season's first hurricane.

Not a lot going on across the Atlantic Basin right now and it looks to remain generally quiet for the next several days.

The same cannot be said for the southeast Pacific where a new tropical depression is likely to form in the coming days and impact Mexico with heavy rain and rough coastal conditions.

We no longer have to worry about Claudette so now it is time to keep track of an active tropical wave moving through the deep tropics and eventually into the Caribbean Sea.

As we begin the week, it looks like the tropics will remain somewhat busy with a new area of interest to watch out in the tropical Atlantic.

Also, Claudette has become a tropical storm again just off the North Carolina coast but will move away quickly today and not be of much concern except for mariners in the offshore waters of the western Atlantic.

The remnants of Claudette will continue to move across the Southeast bringing the threat of heavy rain and severe weather. We will also be watching to see if it can make a comeback over eastern North Carolina and become a tropical storm again in the western Atlantic as it takes advantage of warm Gulf Stream waters and a bit of a boost from atmospheric processes.

Tropical Storm Claudette formed early this morning as it made landfall across southeast Louisiana. It is now moving into Mississippi and will spread heavy rain and even scattered severe weather across a wide swath of the Southeast this weekend and into early next week.

The system in the Gulf of Mexico remains poorly organized but will still bring periods of heavy rain, some coastal flooding, and the risk of severe weather later in the weekend to portions of the Southeast U.S.

Invest area 92L has not become any better organized overnight with only limited areas of showers and thunderstorms seen on satellite imagery this morning. There is still some opportunity for it to strengthen and bring minor coastal impacts to portions of the central Gulf Coast but the biggest story will be the potential for heavy rain across a large swath of the Southeast over the weekend.
