All of a sudden, the tropics look more like August than mid-June. There is a lot to go over as we begin the week!

The tropics are showing signs of becoming more active but not to worry, still no solid indication of anything too threatening just yet.

The NHC now indicating a 405 chance of development from a disturbance down in the Bay of Campeche. Will it bring impacts to the Gulf Coast of the U.S. later next week? It is possible but the process will be a slow one to be sure.

While the tropics look to be generally quiet as we progress through the weekend, I am seeing signs that later next week, things will become quite a bit more interesting as low pressure looks to develop in the southern Gulf of Mexico or Bay of Campeche by later next week.

A strong Saharan Air Layer will keep the deep tropical Atlantic nice and quiet over the coming days as we watch the western Gulf of Mexico for possible development more than a week out.

I am beginning to see a little more in the way of consensus among the various global models suggesting that we will eventually see some level of development in the vicinity of the southern or western Gulf of Mexico in about a week or so. Using "ensemble" forecasting, it helps to see a variety of "what if" scenarios and this helps to create confidence in the longer range outlook.

So far, no solid signs of development seen within the overall complex set up across the Atlantic Basin or the eastern Pacific. I think it will take at least a week - perhaps longer - before anything tries to get going, if at all.

The NHC is now monitoring an area of interest down in the southwest Caribbean Sea for possible slow development as the week progresses.

I am also keeping an eye on a couple of systems in the eastern Pacific but none pose any significant threats to land at this time.

As we await the upcoming pattern change for the western portion of the Atlantic Basin, it looks like we will soon have a new tropical depression to keep track of in the east Pacific.

The weekend looks great across the Atlantic Basin with no areas of concern for us to keep tabs on.

In the eastern Pacific, Invest 92-E is likely to go on and become a tropical depression sooner rather than later but will not affect any land areas as it moves generally west to west-northwest and out into the open Pacific.
