With a little luck, we could end the month of July with no additional named storms in the Atlantic as for now the global models are not suggesting any development over the next week to 10 days at least.

In the meantime, we do have a hurricane in the east Pacific - Felicia - that will not pose any direct threat to land areas other than perhaps some increase in swells for coastal Mexico and perhaps southern California in several days.

Only one minor area to keep track of in the far northern Atlantic today as unfavorable conditions continue to keep the deep tropics nice and quiet.

The east Pacific is getting more active with invest area 96-E well on its way to becoming a tropical depression but it is moving away from Mexico and will not bring any direct impacts.

A quiet look to the tropics as we begin the week ahead - at least for the Atlantic Basin with suppressed phases of the MJO and CCKW moving through, helping to keep convection quite minimal from the coast of Africa all the way across the Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico.

The east Pacific has a couple of areas of potential development well off the coast of Mexico and both features will remain offshore and move away from the Mexican coastline in the coming days.
