!Happy New Year, friends! We've got another special bonus episode for you, this time with Lego streamer extraordinaire Zach Rutledge! We dig in on our favorite Marvel villains, the legacy of the 90's X-Men cartoon, and why Legos are too cool for 10-year-olds.
We'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming this week — in the meantime, check out Zach's Twitch stream at https://www.twitch.tv/zachmrutledge!
How many Marvel movies are too many to show in a single week to someone you just started dating? How many Funko Pops is too many Funko Pops? Why are Jim Starlin's Infinity Saga the best comics ever? We check in with Twitch's favorite Marvel nut Marvelous Tay to get these answers and more.
Your Hype hosts mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and start reading the classic graphic novel Sandman together, starting with volume 1: Preludes and Nocturnes. Will also reads Wastelanders and Devil's Reign, while Steve reads Astonishing X-Men vol 2 and X-Men: True Friends.
Steve helps Will celebrate his 1 year anniversary on Twitch by giving him a brand new complex. Will also reads Eternals vol 2: Hail Thanos and Silver Surfer Rebirth. Steve watches the X-Men get Shattered in the Shattering crossover (Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #372, X-Men vol 2 #92, and Gambit vol 3 #8-9) and Gambit Annual 1999.
Will has a new choice for best anime of all time, and also read Shang-Chi vol 3: Family of Origin and the climactic cosmic crossover Last Annihilation! Steve enjoys X-Force vol 1 #94-97 and X-Force Annual 1999, and suffers through Mutant X #13-18 for your amusement, you sicko.
(Lord it's hard not to be happy when you're not) reading comics! Will's got Strange Academy vol 3, where the mysteries start to entwine, and Fantastic Four by Dan Slott vol 10: The Reckoning War Part 1, where things start to absolutely pop off. Steve? Steve's got a lot of Cable. Cable vol 2 #71, Cable Annual 1999, and Cable & Wolverine: Guts & Glory.
Sorry for the numbering snafu: this is episode 74, and was recorded before the last episode we published, #75. I don't know, man.
Our spectacular 75th episode, and we got to record in person! If you got to have any superpower, what would you choose? Also, Will reads an insane new take on Hulk in Hulk by Donny Cates vol 1: Smashtronaut!, a new chapter for Elektra in Daredevil: Woman Without Fear, and an Asgardian detour in Thor by Donny Cates vol 4: God of Hammers. Steve chokes his way through the Dawn of M-Tech Saga (Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #371, X-Men vol 2 #91, and X-Men Annual 1999), Wolverine vol 2 #141-144, and Incredible Hulk vol 3 #8. Apologies for the drop in audio quality toward the end — we decided to cut Steve's segment on Generation X due to the audio, and he'll summarize what you missed next time he reads that title!
The best thing in in current-day Marvel continues. New titles Way of X and X-Corp kick off by rocking our feeble little bodies, while Cable reaches a satisfying conclusion for a perfectly adequate book in our reading for this episode, Reign of X vols 11 and 12.
Will returns from his cruise with theological concerns, and having read a giant heap of comics: Ghost Rider: Return of Blaze, Black Panther vol 1: The Long Shadow, Avengers Forever vol 1: The Lords of Earthly Vengeance, Captain America/Iron Man: The Armor and the Shield, Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond vol 4, Black Widow by Kelly Thompson vol 3: Die by the Blade, Miles Morales vol 7: Beyond, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop, Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit, X-Men Legends vol 2. Steve reads, uh, X-Man #51-55.
What's bigger than the Multiverse? Defenders books. Will reads Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond vol 3 and Defenders: There Are No Rules. Steve reads Wolverine & Punisher: Revelation and X-Force vol 1 #91-93.
