Get in, loser, we're going reckoning.
Slight correction to the last episode — this time Will reads Wolverine: Patch, Carnage vol 1: In the Court of Crimson, and Fantastic Four by Dan Slott vol 11: The Reckoning War Part II. Steve cleans up all the last X-issues before starting the "Revolution" in our next episode: X-Force vol 1 #98-101, Gambit vol 3 #10-15, Generation X vol 1 #60-62, X-Man #61-62, Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #379-380, X-Men vol 2 #99, Cable vol 1 # 78, and Wolverine vol 2 #149.
It's crossover time! No, don't get too excited.
This week Steve has the year 2000's X-Men mega-event, Apocalypse: The Twelve along with its follow-up story Ages of Apocalypse (Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #376-378 and Annual 1999, Cable vol 1 #75-77, X-Man vol 1 #59-60, X-Men vol 2 #96-98, Wolverine vol 2 #146-148), plus a few issues of Bishop: The Last X-Man (#4-8) in dire hopes that it ties in at least a little bit with The Twelve (it doesn't).
Will gluts himself with comics after a long break, reading Maestro: World War M, Spider-Man 2099: Exodus, Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse, Savage Spider-Man, Black Panther by John Ridley vol 2: Range Wars, Iron Fist: The Shattered Sword, Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells vol 2: The New Sinister, and Fantastic Four by Dan Slott vol 11: Reckoning War Part II.
Phew.
Welcome back to Hype is My Superpower... or should we change the name? Will reads The Marvels vol 2: Undiscovered Country, Venom by Al Ewing and Ram V vol 2: Deviation, and Ghost Rider vol 1: Unchained. Steve contributes the final prelude to his upcoming crossover The Twelve: Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #375, X-Men vol 2 #95, X-Men Unlimited vol 1 #25, and Wolverine vol 2 #145.
We drafted our favorite Nintendo franchises. Hey, leave a comment and let us know who you think won the draft?
As for comics, Will read Strange vol 1: I Belong to Death and Steve reads Generation X vol 1 #53-59 and Annual 1999, New Warriors vol 1 #5, X-Men: Phoenix, and X-Babies Reborn. Then they both get back together to read more Sandman! (Issues 21-28, collected as Season of Mists)
It's a week for What Ifs and retcons! Will reads Hulk vs. Thor: Banner of War, Dark Ages, and Spider-Man: The Spider's Shadow. Steve reads X-Men: Children of the Atom (1999-2000) and X-Men: The Hidden Years #1-7.
Hey tell us more stories of how you listen to our podcast! It's very gratifying!
In this episode: Will reads a couple auspicious debuts in Amazing Spider-Man by Wells & Romita Jr vol 1: World Without Love and She-Hulk by Rainbow Rowell vol 1: Jen Again, plus Black Panther Legends. Steve reads X-Man #56-58, Cable vol 1 #72-74, and Deadpool vol 3 #34-37. And then they both get back together to read Sandman #17-20.
Your hosts process their cathartic release from Morbius and playoff baseball, respectively. And then, comics! Will reads Ben Reilly: Spider-Man, Moon Knight vol 2: Too Tough to Die, and Avengers by Jason Aaron vol 10: The Death Hunters. Steve tackles the final shat of The Shattering with Uncanny X-Men vol 1 #373-374 and X-Men vol 2 #93-94.
The Hellfire Gala got us so hype we had to split the recording into two parts! The promised fireworks display at the end of the soiree ended up being downright world-changing, and then the event ended with a stinger that may somehow be even more impactful. But before Steve would let Will go, he had to indulge in a little bit of fashion critique.
Continuing our giant-sized coverage of the Krakoa-era X-Men, we've got a mammoth event closing out the Reign of X: The Hellfire Gala! High society fashion, politics, romance, and intrigue all collide in the mutant nation and it's a devastatingly good story, so let's jump right in!
Just, uh, please stick with us through the cold open?
We're back to our usual tricks! Will reads Devil's Reign side-stories (Spider-Woman: Devil's Reign, Devil's Reign: X-Men, Superior Four: Devil's Reign, Devil's Reign: Villains for Hire) and Steve reads Louise Simonson's ill-fated return to the X-books with Warlock vol 5. And we tackle the most pressing question of all: why the heck do Juggernaut, Sandman, and Man Mountain Marko all have the same last name (no relation), and why are they all villains?
