I-80 Club

Jack Mitchell declares that FOOTBALL SEASON is finally here! On his mind are the various preseason magazines and predictions he's seeing surrounding the Huskers. With no position groups listed in the top ten around the country, why does the national media still expect a year three bump? Him and Josh Peterson unpack all of that and try to find players and position groups they believe in for the 2025 season.

Josh and Jack go into the vault for one of the first episodes of Be Kind Husker Rewind! In honor of the Groin Kick Chronicles, and the 2018 Ohio State game coming in at 62nd in the rankings, they've released an old episode they thought they had lost about one of the biggest moral victory losses of the last decade. Plenty from this has assuredly aged terribly, but that's ok! 2019 didn't go how anyone wanted it to.

Josh welcomes his 1620 the Zone colleague, Matt McMaster, to the Saturday Morning Coffee Show for his I-80 Club debut! They dive into Nebraska football and the 2025 season, in particular Josh's recent HuskerMax column about reasons to doubt the Huskers can take the next step in 2025. In order, they tackle:

1. Are we sure Dylan Raiola can take the next step? (10:56)
2. How much regression should be baked into the defensive cake? (21:21)
3. Are there difference makers on offense or defense? (33:03)
4. Is the schedule as light as it seems on paper? (46:23)
5. Can Nebraska finally close games out? (55:10)

Plus, why 2025 needs to be a setup year to buy into Nebraska in 2026, special teams, and so much more!

Josh Peterson gives a list of the "most palatable" losses of the last decade before discussing each of the bottom ten with Jack Mitchell. Why were there so many Illinois and Ohio State games in this episode? How big of a surprise was it seeing that game at number 69? Or 66? They dive into it all with a tease to the next batch of games.

Omaha is at the center of the messy landscape of U.S. pro volleyball. We talk about it with journalist Rose Eveleth who wrote about this for Defector in early June. We also detail Nebraska's 2027 recruiting class, which filled up in a hurry this week. Plus, a quick look at Team USA trying to bounce back in Week 2 of the Volleyball Nations League.
