Heinrich Haaberg, the Nebraska quarterback of the past four seasons, is moving to tight end. Coach Matt Rhule mentioned it last week amid the flurry of news around the transfer portal and coaching carousel. Is this a big deal? 

We believe it is, yes. Connor and Mitch are here on this Wednesday to discuss the evolving tight end situation at Nebraska. Who’s in and who’s out for 2025? Were the decisions instigated by Dana Holgorsen, the new offensive coordinator, or Marcus Satterfield, the tight ends coach and old OC? Nebraska running back Dante Dowdell entered the transfer portal on Monday. Surprised? You probably shouldn’t be, though this departure falls into the category of a surprise under the old guidelines of college football. Dowdell led the Huskers in rushing yardage and touchdowns in 2024.

Connor and Mitch diagnose the running back situation in the wake of Dowdell’s apparent departure. What’s left? Nebraska likely needs to bid for portal running back, with just Emmett Johnson returning at the position with experience alongside a few promising young backs. Also, the Huskers are opening the 2025 season at Arrowhead Stadium. At what other venue would you like to see Nebraska play?

Bowl practices are back in full swing at Nebraska less than two weeks ahead of the Pinstripe Bowl. And Matt Rhule’s defensive coaching staff is coming into focus with the reported selection of Addison Williams as the next secondary coach for the Huskers. 

Rhule is set to add four coaches on the defensive side to replace two departures. But have the Huskers improved their ability to develop defenders and coach defense this month? Another day brought additional movement in the transfer portal as three more Nebraska football players are set to depart – and all seemingly for different reasons. In better news for the Huskers, freshman defensive end Keona Davis is coming back, one day after he entered the portal just as the program picked a new D-line coach.

A frantic start to this week around Nebraska football. Nebraska coach Matt Rhule removed the short-lived interim tag on Tuesday from John Butler. He is the new DC. Phil Snow and Terry Bradden, a new name to Husker Nation, are on the way to joining the defensive staff, too. And the transfer portal keeps adding names.

Nebraska lost promising defensive end Keona Davis on Monday, but it got good news as several of Davis’ freshman classmates posted messages about their intentions to run it back with the Huskers.
