  • THE PROOF: God did not condone slavery

We Want To Hear From YOU!

As we bask in the ambiance of black history month, I wanted to set the record straight.  Believe it or not, we have some who have turned from the bible, deeming that God and His Word ordained oppression and an advocate for slavery, based on one scripture, Ephesians 6:5, which reads, “Slaves obey your masters.”

There are a total of 31,102 verses in the Bible, but the flawed and lazy human mind will take one verse and use it to build cults and denounce the deity and heart of God without ever reading the entire text concerning a verse.  The bottom line is we all know Satan will do anything to keep people from the truth because the truth destroys Satan’s kingdom.

As I talk to you this morning about slavery, first and foremost, let’s understand that the slave system we know as part of American history is not the complete or initial slave system that ignited in biblical times.

The initial form of slavery did not revolve around mistreatment, cruelty, and the infringement of one's freedoms. In the bible, there is no mention of employee or employer, only slave and slave master or servant and master. The term "slave" was often used interchangeably with "servant." Through a thorough examination of biblical scripture, I want to know and understand that God did not and does not condone oppression or slavery.

  • The Wrestling Match: The Story of Jacob

We Want To Hear From YOU!

I was recently asked why Jacob wrestled with God.

For those of you who don’t know the story of Jacob, to get a full and complete understanding of Jacob's wrestling with God, you must begin with him in his mother's womb.  Jacob's story begins in Genesis 25 and brings you right into Genesis  32 when he wrestles with God.

Jacob was a twin, and his brother’s name was Esau.  Their parents were Isaac and Rebekah. Scriptures tell us that these boys struggled and fought each other in the womb.  Esau was born first, and Jacob came out, grasping his brother's heel.

And it didn’t help or heal the tension between the brothers, with each parent having their favorite.  Issac loved the firstborn, Esau, and Rebekah favored Jacob.

  • What God Wants From You in 2024

We Want To Hear From YOU!

This is the first Sunday of 2024, and on this Sunday, it is only befitting to set the tone for the rest of this year.  I know some of you have laid out resolutions, vowed to change some habits, and have your mind set on greater, bigger, and better.

And all that is possible, but the one thing we have to do is get out of our own way.  I hear people trying to be so spiritually deep boast about their prayer time; some even base their faith and belief in the doctrine of Christ on their prayer frequency.  I speak in tongues whenever I pray; I pray twice a day.

My response to this is so what.  Some of you are thinking, pastor, how can you say "so what "about prayer?

  • Pray & Prep and then Prep & Pray

We Want To Hear From YOU!

The Word of God tells us that faith without works is dead.  The work that aligns with our faith includes the efforts put into the preparation.

In 2 Corinthians 3:18, the scripture explains how we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord, and as the spirit of the Lord works in us, He elevates us from glory to glory.

However, we must embrace that every new level of glory requires an element of work and a dynamic of preparation.

We must prepare for the career we desire, and obtain the required education.

We must prepare for even the marriage we want by denouncing and annihilating a spirit of selfishness and self-centeredness.

Whatever we set our goals on requires preparation, anything that is not worthy of preparing for is likely not worthy of pursuing.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR: Wiping Slates Clean

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Luke 5:37-39 "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined."

To successfully move forward into the “new” means we must be willing to let go of some of the old.  Old habits, mindsets, grudges, old ways, and so on.  If we don’t, all that God has intended for us we will have caused to come to ruin.

A new year is a great time to wipe our slates clean. Going into a new year, we set goals and make resolutions, and we commonly set our desires on the abundance of things, love, and peace.

Many of us eagerly anticipate a sense of “greater” as we seek fulfillment and direction. We recently exchanged gifts with those dear to us, but it is important to remember that true fulfillment and purpose are among God’s greatest gifts. To position ourselves to receive His gifts, we are reminded in the word of God to prioritize seeking His kingdom above all else.

As we seek the Kingdom of God, we cannot bask in the glory of the Kingdom of God without acknowledging what is dirty, what is messy, and what is improper according to the mandate of God in our own lives.

Cleaning our slates is a three-step process; first, recognize the dirt and the need for it to be cleaned.  The second step is applying the presoak solution, which asks for God’s forgiveness, and the third is applying the main cleaning agent, repentance.

We are mixing things up as we intentionally celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the entry of the living God to Earth.

"Lord, we ask that you guide us this morning on how to honor you, your son, and the faithfulness of your love for us.  Lord, let a transformation take place in the hearts and minds of your people as we embrace Christmas not as a holiday but as a day, a season of intentional worship.  Amen"

We Want To Hear From YOU!

We all have things we need to graduate from.  Graduation is continuous as we are charged to renew our minds so that God can elevate us from glory to glory.  Everybody will inevitably earn a degree in something.  Please note that education is not free, and all tuition cannot be paid in cash.

  • Strengthened by God: Lessons from the Life of Ezekiel

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Strengthened by God, such an empowering three-word statement. Most think to be strengthened by God, the one who is the Creator of all things, the one who knows all, the one who sees all, the one who is professed as the Alpha and Omega, surely to be strengthened by the King of Kings, would surely mean that one life and path should be a bit easier than the rest.

However, Luke 12:48 lets us know such an assumption could not be further from the truth as scripture explains, “To whom much is given, much is required.”  When God strengthens us, it is a little self-centered for us to believe that the strength given to us is all about us.

  • If Jesus Paid

We Want To Hear From YOU!

If Jesus paid… the price for our sin, why do we still suffer the consequences of our sin?

This is a common question among believers, doubters, and unbelievers.

Now I want to read Leviticus 17:11 to you…

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.

    What does all this mean?
