  • The Mark Of the Beast and The Antichrist

We Want To Hear From YOU!

The expression antichristos is found in the Bible only in the Johannine Epistles (1 Jn. 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 Jn. 7), but the idea behind it is widespread. We should probably understand the force of anti as indicating opposition, rather than a false claim, i.e. the antichrist is one who opposes Christ rather than one who claims to be the Christ. If this is so, then we should include under the heading ‘antichrist’ such OT passages as Dn 7:7f., 21f., and those in 2 Thes. 2 and Revelation which deal with the strong opposition that the forces of evil are to offer Christ in the last days.

The concept is introduced in John as already well known (‘you have heard that antichrist is coming, 1 Jn. 2:18). But though he does not dispute the fact that at the end of this age there will appear an evil being, called ‘antichrist’, John insists that there is a temper, an attitude, characteristic of antichrist, and that already exists. Indeed, he can speak of ‘many antichrists’ as already in the world (1 Jn. 2:18). He gives something in the nature of a definition of antichrist when he says, ‘This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son’ (1 Jn. 2:22). This becomes a little more explicit when the criterion is made the refusal to acknowledge ‘the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh’ (2 Jn. 7). For John it is basic that in Jesus Christ we see God acting for man’s salvation (1 Jn. 4:9f.). When a man denies this he is not simply guilty of doctrinal error. He is undercutting the very foundation of the Christian faith. He is doing the work of Satan in opposing the things of God. At the end of the age this will characterize the work of the supreme embodiment of evil. And those who in a small way do the same thing now demonstrate by that very fact that they are his henchmen.

  • The Animalistic Flavor Of God (Part 1): The True King of Our Jungle

We Want To Hear From YOU!

In the Bible, there are only two animals God uses to describe Himself, a lion and an eagle.  Lions are the baddest thing that prowls the earth and the eagle is the "baddest" thing that flies in the air. Which explains why God uses these two things to describe Himself because he is the absolute control of the heavens and earth.

Today’s sermon is part one of a two-part series entitled The Animalistic Flavor of God: The True King of the Jungle

A lion symbolizes majesty, courage, strength, protection, family, wisdom, and other admirable traits.  While an eagle symbolizes loyalty, freedom, devotion, truth, honor, and divine faithfulness, we will explore the eagle in part 2 of this series, but today we are going to dive into the animalistic flavor of God which shares characteristics with the lion.

Did you know Lions don't actually live in the jungle? Their real habitat is the open savanna, a grassy plain in tropical and subtropical regions, open land which possesses few trees.

Lions live in groups called "prides". A group of lions is collectively called a pride because of their stately quality.  The male lions of the pride come and go. As it is the males their job to defend the pride's territory, by marking the area, using their roar to threaten and warn intruders, as well as,  chasing off animals that encroach on their turf. The males spend most of their time fighting and protecting, also teaching and preparing the male cubs how to survive so they can operate as Kings when they eventually leave the pride.

Now lionesses are the heart and soul of the “pride”, with a more consistent presence in the pride as she is the primary caregiver of cubs, especially the female cubs.  The lioness is also the pride's primary hunter and leader. Female lions are the core of the lion family just like in the human family.

This is why Satan in the Garden of Eden went straight to Eve. Also why,  If you study the history of the largest act of oppression in this country, which was slavery, you will learn to keep oppression alive and the rule of slavery profitable, if you read The Making of a slave you will see that masters set out to control and put fear in the woman.

But why? the woman and not the man.  Because it's the woman that is the core of all families, not because the man is by any means insignificant, but simply because the woman is the first teacher of every generation and what is put in the minds of babies will have long term effects.

  • Standing In The Need of Prayer

We Want To Hear From YOU!

We all stand in the need of prayer.
Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing,

Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

  • Reclaiming Your Birthright

We Want To Hear From YOU!

You all know I am alway stressing the importance of studying the word of God.  The Bible is truly our life manual.  Some consider it antiquated and archaic, but it is so relevant for as modern as we think today’s times are, there is nothing that we do, say, or how we act or react that has not already been played out in the bible. To ignore that simple fact is equivalent to saying “I would rather walk around blind than to see clearly where I am going”

Obadiah, the shortest book in the Old Testament, is only 21 verses long. This book is often overlooked and rarely quoted from, but it ties into the story of Jacob and Esau and how God deals with those who keep bitterness going.

Obadiah is a prophet of God who gives vision concerning the condemnation of Edom for sins against both God and Israel.

Let me give you a little background on the Edomites.  The Edomites were the descendants of Esau, the firstborn son of Isaac and the twin brother of Jacob.

(Genesis 25:23) In the womb, Esau and Jacob struggled together, and God told their mother, Rebekah, that they would become two nations, with the older one serving the younger .

As an adult, Esau sold his inheritance to Jacob for a bowl of soup (Genesis 25:30-34), and he hated his brother afterward. By his negative example, Esau teaches us to hold fast to what is truly important, even if it means denying the appetites of the flesh.

Esau’s choice to sell his birthright is used as an example of ungodliness—a “godless” person who will put physical desires over spiritual blessings (Hebrews 12:15-17)

Esau became the father of the Edomites and Jacob became the father of the Israelites, and the two nations continued to struggle through most of their history.

The quarrel between the brothers affected their descendants for over 1,000 years. The religion of the Edomites was similar to that of other pagan societies who worshiped fertility gods. Esau’s descendants eventually dominated the southern lands and made their living by agriculture and trade.

One night an angelic stranger visited Jacob and he did what we all must do. He confronts his failures, his weaknesses, his sins, his deceit and faces God. Jacob wrestled with God all night. It was an exhausting struggle that the scriptures say left him crippled. The significance of Jacob being left crippled, is confirmation that we cannot go against God without facing consequences and his life long crippled state was indication of from that point on his ongoing humility before God.

(Genesis 32:29) It was only after he came to grips with God and ceased his struggling, realizing that he could not go on without Him, that he received God’s blessing and God changed his name to Israel .

Now note Jacob had an encounter with God and settled some things before him and God blessed him and gave him a new name and a new start.  But his brother Esau didn’t have an encounter with God and was still bitter toward his brother and the Israelites.

  • Steer Clear of False Prophets

We Want To Hear From YOU!

This morning the spirit is leading me to address some of the foolishness that is running rampant amongst believers from our pulpits to the parking lots.

2 Timothy 4:3-4  For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

I am here to tell you the time is now.  We have believers so fixed on what they want that they will shun or give no consideration to what the Word of God says. Their focus is only on what they want and so much so that their ears are only open to what pacifies their desires and disconnects from the words of truth being spoken.

Those with itchy ears are pawns in Satan’s game.  Itchy ears are a gateway for him to exploit our souls and to pull away from the Word of God and make us prime targets for false prophets.

Jesus alerts us to “watch out for false prophets” in Matthew 7:15. He compares these false prophets to wolves in sheep’s clothing. In that same chapter, Jesus also tells us how to identify these false prophets: we will recognize them by their fruit.  What we always need to remain conscious of is the best fruit, the best gifts are nothing, even evil without godliness.

But we as believers have taken on the persona of the world and look for quick easy fixes, want our blessing delivered and gift wrapped according to our desires.  So the world runs from psychic to psychic and we run from “prophet” to “prophet” seeking from man to pour a word into our lives when the word of God has and will always be readily available.

In Matthew 12:38 Jesus told the people, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign”. But we run around with our itchy ears, wanting to hear confirmation concerning our desires, along with signs and predictions of the future, putting more faith in man’s words than the mandates of God.

  • Angels

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Angels are personal spirit beings created to worship and serve God. We don’t know when angels were created, but Scripture indicates that angels were present when God created the earth, so we do know they existed before mankind.

Psalm 148 lists various created things, and everything, including angels, is commanded to praise the Lord: nThe scripture reads “Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts. . . . Let them praise the name of the Lord, for at his command they were created”

We know that mankind came from the earth. God scooped up mud and formed Adam’s body, then breathed life into it, and man became a living soul. We are not told what “substance,” if any, God used to create angels or what the process looked like.

In Genesis 1 God merely spoke the entire universe into being; it could be that He also spoke the angels into existence. We could say that angels came from the mind of God and showcase another aspect of His creative brilliance.

What is clear is the character of angels. They praise God (Psalm 148:1-2; Isaiah 6:3). They worship God (Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 5:8-13). They rejoice in what God does (Job 38:6-7). They serve God (Psalm 103:20; Revelation 22:9). They appear before God (Job 1:6; 2:1). They are instruments of God’s judgments (Revelation 7:1; 8:2). They bring answers to prayer (Acts 12:5-10). They aid in winning people to Christ (Acts 8:26; 10:3). They observe Christian order, work, and suffering (1 Corinthians 4:9; 11:10; Ephesians 3:10; 1 Peter 1:12). They encourage in times of danger (Acts 27:23-24). And They care for the righteous at the time of death (Luke 16:22).

A popular notion is that people become angels when they die—at least, the “good” people do. The 1946 film It’s a Wonderful Life advance this concept through a fictional character who was a clockmaker when he was alive (293 years previously) but is now an angel trying to earn his wings through good works.

However, there is no biblical basis for the theory that angels are former people. In fact, the Bible clearly indicates that angels are different from us; (Psalm 8:5) tells us human beings were created little lower than the angels.

Human beings do not become angels after they die. Angels will never become and never were, human beings. God created the angels, just as He created humanity.

  • Paranoia vs The Praise of Truth

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Paranoia is described as a condition that is derived from the lack of knowledge of truth or one’s resistance to the truth.

The symptoms of paranoia are distrust, difficulty with forgiveness, defensive attitude, imagined criticism, preoccupation with hidden motives, fear of being deceived, inability to relax, argumentation. delusions of persecution, unwarranted jealousy, an exaggerated sense of self-importance, addictive tendencies, and a loss of touch with reality.

As I read the symptoms of paranoia, I couldn’t help but deal with the evident truth. We live in a world where either the lack of truth or the resistance to truth has shaped us into a culture of people who dwell in a state of paranoia.

Specialists say one of the most effective ways to deal with paranoia is through cognitive behavioral therapy which aims to help one identify and challenge thoughts that are unproductive and false. In other words, face lies and deceptions head-on and exalt truth.

Simply put, what the scripture tells us about the renewing of our minds is the cure for a paranoid culture of people.

Now John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

So let’s put all of this into perspective, paranoia is derived from the lack of knowledge of truth or one’s resistance to the truth.  It is evident from the symptoms that the culture in which we live is suffering from paranoia. And the experts who have studied this disease of the mind say that the best way to treat this disease is to…. in simple terms face lies and deceptions head-on and exalt truth.

  • Can Believers Be Demon Possessed?

We Want To Hear From YOU!

I am answering a question recently submitted.  Can a believer become demon-possessed?

Biblical scripture makes it abundantly clear that Christians cannot be demon-possessed.  Now there is a distinct difference between being possessed by a demon and being oppressed or influenced by a demon.

The core of our salvation is rooted in Romans 10:9 “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.  The closing 4 words of that scripture read “you will be saved”, saved from what? The control of Satan.

Confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart is an invitation for the holy spirit to come into your heart and soul. Satan does not have enough power or authority to invoke an eviction on the Holy Spirit.

Demon possession involves a demon having direct/complete control over the thoughts and/or actions of a person.

Now because God does not take away our free will when we extend the invitation inviting the holy spirit in.  We can be influenced by Satan. Demon oppression or influence involves a demon or demons attacking a person spiritually and/or encouraging him/her into sinful behavior.

If you notice that in all the New Testament passages dealing with spiritual warfare, there are no instructions to cast a demon out of a believer. Believers are told to resist the devil. James 4:7; Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Confessing and believing in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord is step one

Step two of our salvation is continuous and has to do with the continual renewing of our minds and the continual submission of our mind, body and soul to Christ.

Time and time again, as life happens, turmoil and temptations will come, and we are charged to choose God’s way over the world that is the act of resubmission.  Resubmission becomes a sanctified habit, through the renewing of our minds, the act of studying the word of God.

Christians are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cannot dwell in the same space as a demon.  Just as lightness and darkness cannot occupy the same space. It is unthinkable that God would allow one of His children, whom He purchased with the blood of Christ and made into a new creation (2 to be possessed and controlled by a demon.

Yes, as believers, we wage war with Satan and his demons, but not from within ourselves. The apostle John declares,1 John 4:4  “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world”.

Who is the One in us? The Holy Spirit. Who is the one in the world? Satan and his demons. Therefore, the believer has overcome the world of demons, and the case for demon possession of a believer is not scripturally sound.

Much of the reasoning behind the demonization concept is the personal experience of seeing someone who was “definitely” a "Christian" exhibiting evidence of being controlled by a demon. It is crucially important, though, that we do not allow personal experiences to influence our interpretation of Scripture.

  • Retagging Ourselves

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Parents, you ever look at the behavior of your children and don’t recognize the child you raise.  Or has any of you thought you knew someone only to question, is this the person I thought I knew?

I can only imagine God feeling the same way when he looks at us sometimes.  Is this who I created, is this the one who says they know me?

We live in a culture that makes it extremely easy to lose ourselves, to become detached from our core principles and standards.  As a matter of fact, we live in a culture where standards and principles are not favorably looked upon.

Today’s culture promotes imitators. instead of innovators. Imitators dismiss standards and principles, innovators exalt standards and principles.

We tend to imitate others based on what looks good, what others declare of value, and on what feels good.

This is why we have become people who are obsessed with designer labels and material things.  And why sex can effectively be used to sell and promote any and everything.

And if you are one that pulls away from the mandate of imitators and what they are pushing, then you’re considered an outcast.

If you seek to promote things that are rooted in righteousness, that edifies the mind, nourishes the soul, or exalts God’s ordained purpose then you are radical, crazy or behind in times.  The world only embraces those who are willing to imitate what goes against the principles of godliness and is pushed as the norm.

Matthew 5:13-14 “ Every plant the heavenly father has not planted will be rooted up.  Let them alone they are blind guides, if the blind lead the blind they will both fall into a pit.”

The pit we fall is paid by the high cost of our souls.  We sacrifice our souls for man-made gems while being deceived into thinking we have invested in diamonds.

Each one of us has been wonderfully and uniquely made by God, so when we, God’s individual masterpieces, submit to being imitators of others that is equivalent to taking a diamond and putting a tag on it claiming it to be cubic zirconia.

The problem with a diamond being labeled as cubic zirconia is that its value is never realized. It’s passed around as cheap.  Thrown here and there, left anywhere, and easily discarded.
