  • Lysandra Perez-Brown CEO of Khandie Woo LLC
Khandie Woo LLC is a wearable art brand specializing in eccentric eyewear and vibrant accessories. With roots in Brooklyn, New York, many imagine that our one-of-a-kind pieces were created in a high-end gallery or art studio. While we’re proud to say that our pieces were displayed in galleries and on runways across the globe, we’re equally as proud to say that our origin is nowhere near as glamorous.
Khandie Woo LLC is the product of nearly ten years of passion, hard work, and unwavering determination, even in the face of unimaginable stress. Our first pair of lensless glasses — the art piece that put us on the map — wasn’t created in a studio. Instead, they started as bifocals bought for a few bucks from the local thrift store... and then they broke not too long after that. So, our founder Lysandra did what she does best. She made it work! Harnessing her creative prowess with recycled mediums and fabrics sourced from the Caribbean, Lysandra used material she had on hand to wrap the glasses in a way she had never seen done before. Then,
she unveiled them to the world with a matching headwrap and handmade accessories. From there, the rest is history. As interest grew for her handcrafted pieces, Lysandra’s wearable art caught the attention of a designer in the Netherlands. Soon, both Lysandra and Khandie Woo LLC were on the runway across Europe, as well as in New York and Los Angeles. More recently, Lysandra spearheaded her time at ART AT FAME: The Khandie Woo Pop-Up Experience, and had our products highlighted in a FOX5 Good Day New York profile as well as in a Hot Spring Accessories feature on the Wendy Williams Show and a Reebok Campaign. Today, Khandie Woo LLC is evolving from made-to-order products to steadily manufactured goods that will be more widely accessible on a global scale. And despite our broader reach, our message will always be the same: To remain unapologetically you, confident in your Khandie Woo frames.

About Our Founder & CEO, Lysandra

Lysandra Perez-Brown is the heart of Khandie Woo LLC. This company was born out of a desire for Lysandra to follow her passions wherever they would take her, though initially, her artistry served as a vessel to connect with her Caribbean roots. A Brooklyn native whose parents are from Trinidad and Grenada, Lysandra strove to create wearable art sourced from craft trades learned through her culture. When she was young, Lysandra didn’t have much time to absorb the rich heritage of her parents. Life moves fast, and her mother and father came to America to learn, work, and make a life for themselves in a new country — not to revel in the past. But for Lysandra, who so deeply wanted to connect with her parents’ lineage, she needed a way to make their culture accessible to her all the way in New York City.
Fortunately, Lysandra found art. Art has always been a medium of self-expression for Lysandra, feeding her desire to pay homage to her family’s heritage while giving her an outlet to defy societal norms. Having experienced bullying from a young age, Lysandra channeled her emotions into art, leveraging it as armor to hold her head high in the world. Now, she wants Khandie Woo LLC products to do the same for you.

  • GIRL NAMED TOM (Bekah, Joshua and Caleb Liechty), winner of THE VOICE Season 21
Ohio Trio Becomes First Group to Win in the Show’s 21-Season History

Coach Kelly Clarkson Takes “Voice” Crown for Fourth Time

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Dec. 14, 2021 — Sibling trio Girl Named Tom, featuring Caleb (26), Joshua (24) and Bekah (20) Liechty from Pettisville, Ohio, and currently living in South Bend, Indiana, were crowned the champions of “The Voice” tonight.

Girl Named Tom faced tough competition from the other finalists – Hailey Mia, also from Team Kelly, Wendy Moten and Paris Winningham from Team Blake, and Jershika Maple from Team Legend.

In their Blind Audition, the trio, known for their beautiful family harmonies, earned a four-chair turn from all coaches for their rendition of “Helplessly Hoping” by Crosby, Stills & Nash. After an intense deliberation, the siblings chose Kelly Clarkson as their coach. They went on to win their Battle Round with a show-stopping performance of “Seven Bridges Road” by the Eagles and then their Knockout Round as well with a truly breathtaking interpretation of “Wichita Lineman” by Glen Campbell.

During the live rounds, Girl Named Tom stepped out of their sweet spot in the folk genre to take on Coldplay’s iconic “Viva la Vida.” After impressing coaches with their ability to pivot musical styles, they secured a spot in the Top 5 with a stunning cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River.”

On Monday night’s telecast, Girl Named Tom once again showed their range with two timeless classics – “Baby Now That I've Found You” by The Foundations and “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac.

On tonight’s finale, Caleb, Joshua and Bekah were joined on stage by Clarkson for a catchy cover of “Leave Before You Love Me” by Marshmello and the Jonas Brothers.

Girl Named Tom is the first act in the 21 seasons of “The Voice” to have four of their songs in the iTunes Top 10 at the same time. In addition, the group reached #1 twice on the main iTunes Top 200 chart with “River,” and “The Chain.” “Hits From the Road,” the group’s self-titled album that was released in February, is currently #17 on the iTunes Top Albums chart, making them the first act in the show’s history to have songs also charting in the Top 200 from their own self-released album.

Girl Named Tom was the #1 most-viewed act on YouTube this season, with 8.9 million collective views.

Hailing from a small town, this sibling trio was initially homeschooled where music became a big part of their curriculum. They enrolled in piano lessons at a young age and joined theater once they started attending public school. Despite their artistic upbringing, they all planned to become doctors, but things changed when their father was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2017. When Bekah finished high school and the boys finished college, their father’s prognosis was still unknown, so they decided to spend more time as a family and formed their trio in 2019. Girl Named Tom is grateful for the chance to bring joy to their family and hopes to make their hometown proud on “The Voice.”

This season the Monday and Tuesday editions of “The Voice” are averaging a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers overall in “live plus seven day” averages from Nielsen Media Research. In “live plus same day” Nielsens, “The Voice” is undefeated in 18-49 and total viewers this season in both its Monday and Tuesday timeslots versus regular competition on the Big 4 networks. “The Voice” also adds significant viewership through extended time-shifting on digital and linear platforms with the show’s Sept. 21 season premiere now up to a 3.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 13.6 million viewers overall when viewership to date on all platforms is counted. “The Voice” is the #1 most-watched unscripted series for the 2020-21 season to date ahead of “The Masked Singer.”

“The Voice” is a presentation of MGM Television, Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon, and ITV Studios The Voice USA, Inc. The series was created by John de Mol, who serves as an executive producer along with Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson and Adam H. Sher.

  • Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist MIKE SIELSKI, host of podcast I AM KOBE
ABOUT MIKE SIELSKI AND I AM KOBE

How did Kobe Bryant craft the passion, the determination, and the strength to become a legend? This remarkable series reveals intimate, never-before-heard tapes of Kobe as a teenager, exploring his thoughts, his dreams, and his goals. Philadelphia journalist Mike Sielski tells the story of Kobe Bryant's early years, weaving together these tapes and speaking with Kobe's high school coaches, his friends, his family, and the figures who knew him in his youth, to paint an enthralling documentary portrait of the making of an icon. Before he was an outsized global basketball celebrity for the Los Angeles Lakers, a 5-time NBA champion, an 18-time All-Star, an Academy Award-winning filmmaker, a children's-book author, a husband, a father, and sometimes a lightning rod for controversy, Kobe Bryant was a kid from Philadelphia.

    ABOUT MIKE SIELSKI

Mike Sielski is a sports journalist and author. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and raised just outside Philadelphia, Mike holds degrees from La Salle University of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He has been a sports columnist at the Philadelphia Inquirer since 2013 and was named the top sports columnist in America by the Sports Editors of the Associated Press. He is the author of The Rise: Kobe Bryant and the Pursuit of Immortality, Fading Echoes: A True Story of Rivalry and Brotherhood from the Football Field to the Fields of Honor and the co-author of How to Be Like Jackie Robinson: Life Lessons from Baseball's Greatest Hero.

ABOUT HIS BOOK THE RISE, AVAILABLE JANUARY 11TH

    Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The relative serenity of that day was shattered as breaking news erupted over the airwaves. A tragic helicopter crash near Los Angeles, claiming the lives of nine people, would upend the worlds of sports and celebrities in the saddest, most shocking way. When word first broke, most could not believe it was true. Kobe Bryant's death sent shock waves around the globe. Sometimes we take stars and headline-makers almost for granted, thinking nothing can stop or hurt them. It took that tragedy to reveal the full breadth and depth of Kobe Bryant's influence on our culture, both inside and outside the world of sports. In the days following, award-winning writer Mike Sielski was moved to learn more about the man and legend, who was clearly more than just a basketball star. The result is the book, THE RISE: Kobe Bryant and the Pursuit of Immortality (St. Martin's Press; On Sale January 11, 2022; $29.99), a book that will welcome readers into the growth and maturity of a young man who became as unique a star away from the limelight as he was in it.

For Mike Sielski, the book became a mission: "I tried to track down as many people who were close to him during those years as I could, and I spent weeks going through newspaper archives and first-hand source materials (video of old games, coaches' documents, etc.). I interviewed friends of his who had never been interviewed before, people who hadn't spoken about him in years. I worked closely with Gregg Downer and a confidant of Kobe's, Jeremy Treatman, who had tried to collaborate on a book with Kobe in the late 1990s. As it turned out, Jeremy still had the microcassette recordings and some transcripts of those interviews, and he gave them to me. They have informed my writing and reporting and made the narrative more detailed, more honest, and richer."

The story begins on the asphalt basketball courts of Philadelphia in the 1960s, where Kobe's father, Joe "Jellybean" Bryant went from playground star to college and NBA player, before finishing his professional career in Italy. Mike Sielski shows how Joe's young son, Kobe, growing up in Europe, was shaped into an uncommon young man as he became immersed in culture, geography, and the European way of life. When the family arrived back in Philadelphia, the young son was like a fish out of water. As young Kobe adjusted to an American life, his new home in Lower Merion, PA, adjusted to him. And what a breath of fresh air his personality was. Classmates and teachers were equally spellbound by his maturity and worldliness, so unlike the American teenagers they were used to seeing.

Soon his enormous talent on the basketball court would be made clear as well as his unique perspective on life. A natural leader, even as an impressionable teenager, Bryant would lead his high school team - hardly a basketball power - to a meteoric rise in the state rankings. When this culminated in a 1996 state high school championship, virtually single handedly won by Kobe, his legend was cemented. But as the author shows, this amazing accomplishment would become the norm for a player whose effect on a sport was about to go global. THE RISE is more than a "basketball book." It's a deep dive into the evolution of a gangly high school kid into a global icon.

  • AHMAD RASHAD, host of GSN's brand new game show TUG OF WORDS
    ABOUT TUG OF WORDS

From the producing team behind "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," TUG OF WORDS is a fast-paced game where two teams compete to answer word clue questions correctly and pull the flag on the "tug of war rope" to their side. In round one, each answer involves changing a single letter in the word that appears on the board. For example, with 'TUG' on the board, the answer to the clue 'a label inside a garment' is 'TAG,' and with 'TAG' then on the board, the answer to the clue 'hopefully the upstairs neighbors aren't learning this dance' is 'TAP.' With each round, an additional letter is added creating four and five letter words to solve. The team with the flag on their side after three rounds wins the game, qualifying them for the bonus round where they have opportunity to compete for $10,000.
