Burn the boats!
At all major junctures in life, whether it be in sports, work or family, there is a moment you have to take massive risk in order to succeed. Putting yourself in the best position to take that risk is important!
I challenge you to take a look at the mental safety nets that’s you may have created for yourself, and then review if they are holding you back. If they are, burn them down.
Think about it - when you are passionate or in love with something or someone, you don’t look back. You don’t worry about failing - you surge ahead without the fear of going backwards. Embrace that feeling! But, also analyze your situation before jumping in.
At different points of your life, what you are risking will change, and will inevitably change how far you are willing to go.
For example, right now, time with my family is not something I’m willing to risk often (as I define success as being a good father and husband), but I am willing to risk being uncomfortable in order to grow. (My community manager is always challenging me to push my limits even though it sometimes makes me uncomfortable - and I’m thankful for that).
I look for opportunities that scare me or that I haven't done before in order to grow. Most times I do, not only am I thankful, but more opportunity is born from it.
If you want to move forward, make sure there isn’t anything unhealthy behind you that may make you turn around before the job is done!
