I Hate It, Let’s Watch It

We're thinking of ending this podcast after watching this needlessly long exercise in awkward conversations. (Just kidding, we're masochists and we will watch bad movies and tell you about them until we die.) But seriously, I'm Thinking of Ending Things truly tested our tolerance for pretentious crap, and without vital intel from the book that started it all, our discussion would have been as confusing and unsatisfying as the movie itself. If you've ever gotten stuck sitting next to a screaming baby on a two-hour plane flight, then you already know what it feels like to watch Abandoned. It's honestly hard to say anything else about this movie because our ears are still ringing from the never-ending assault, but if you were wondering if the movie was able to save itself with interesting plot twists and genuine suspense, well, you'll be disappointed there too. Mess continues to be the primary feature of this season of Emily in Paris, and with just two episodes left, we're expecting to get a whole lot of cringe. With Camille and Alfie conveniently absent from the plot this week, Emily and Gabriel are inching closer and closer to the boundary of appropriate contact, and we have our doubts they can keep dancing around it for much longer. Plus Mindy is in pickle now that Emily has successfully forced herself into a business partnership with Nicolas that it turns out she doesn't even actually want and is subsequently blowing up in her face. Hang in there, everyone! We just have one episode left, so don't forget to tune in again next week for the finale!

Just like Season 2, we are micro-dosing Season 3 so we don't go completely insane trying to come to terms with Emily's idiotic decision-making (or lack of decision-making), her questionable fashion choices, and Madeline's irritating presence. Thankfully, we still have Sylvie, Luc and Julien to help counter the nonsense. Otherwise, rest assured, we would not still be doing this. Between the poor video quality and terrible Texan accents, you probably won't even notice that this last installment of our holiday movie series isn't actually a Christmas movie. It's probably for the best because you wouldn't want ANYTHING to steal focus from this horrifying undead cookie who wields weapons ten times its body weight and somehow has jelly guts on the inside? As the grand finale of our 2022 movie lineup, The Gingerdead Man really made us feel good about taking a little break from movies for a bit.

Well, listeners, it finally happened. We accidentally watched a good movie this time. How could a movie built on the premise of a naughty child ordering a hit on Santa Claus actually turn out to be a decent film? Christmas magic, obviously. (And also strong performances by Mel Gibson and Walton Goggins, an average Joe take on the character of Santa, and not a single elf was harmed in the making.)

Despite its problematic amnesia-based love story and gratuitous overacting from a few of the characters (*cough*looking at you, Tad*cough*), we found Falling for Christmas to be an unexpected delight! Lindsay Lohan is charming and redeems the movie's cheesier moments, while the true comedy is in the bizarre details (don't get us started on the key skillets). Is this a good movie? It's not the best. But is this a good Christmas movie? We sure fell for it, and we think you will too.
