I Miss You Man

Christmas is all about families coming together. It's no wonder companies want to use Christmas to market their products. But sometimes, even with the best of intentions, things just go a bit... wrong. This is what happened to the Folgers 2009 ad campaign in which two siblings seem like they are a bit too happy to see each other.

Merry Christmas.

Ben Affleck has been in some wonderful movies. He’s written and directed some great films as well. But how was his first foray behind the camera? It wasn’t very successful, apart from the title, but maybe Lonnie and Dylan have found a few bright spots in Ben Affleck’s debut short film: :I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney”

Yes that is the real title.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… Paradise. It was okay.

Sometimes the story that we’re given is not enough. It has some parts missing that we want to fill in or expand or let’s face it, sometimes we want to change the story to suit our purposes. That’s where Head Canon and Fan Theories come into play. You fill in the gaps to make the story better. How does this work? Is it healthy? Has a fan theory ever ‘come true’? Lonnie has told Dylan and now you can listen too.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… the movie Friendship and Tim Robinson’s new show, The Chair Company.

Last year it was kids horror movies. This year it's kids horror TV shows. The twist? This time we are joined by the wonderfully spooky Johanna Lyon! Before diving into the episodes, we started by talking about the appeal of scary stories for kids and whether they're ever appropriate. Turns out they might be?

In Goosebumps, we follow kid who falls into a superhero's lair. In Are You Afraid of the Dark, we get a twofer: a creepy down and a creepy clown (and an annoying shit of a kid, too). And as a warm up, we watched a short Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids episode about a sulky little fella named Simon. All pretty fun!

Find out more about Jo here: https://www.johannalyon.com/

A few years ago, Dylan gave Lonnie three words and Lonnie gave Dylan the best narrative experience of his life. Gandalf, a wizard, on a first date with Montana Montoya, an optometrist. Dylan was sick of waiting for Chapter 2, so what did he do? He only went and wrote it himself!

We’re back on our Marvel bullshit this week – the Before Marvel Cinematic Universe or BMCU, where we’re looking at the Marvel movie output before the MCU came to fruition.

This week’s movie: “Spider-Man” (2002)

An undisputed classic. We will hear nothing bad about this movie!

Don’t forget to review, subscribe and tell a mate!
