    Healthy on the Run

Shannon started her career in interior design at a furniture boutique + full service design firm in Cherry Creek of Denver, Colorado. There she worked on high end residential homes and smaller commercial spaces for clients throughout the city.

Since then, Shannon has envisioned and co-founded a residential development firm, Fuse Living. With a few new construction developments under her belt, she then decided to open a second branch of the company offering full service interior design packages to both residential clients as well as other developers, builders and architects.

The passion that drives Shannon is human health and sustainability. She is a certified GREENleader (certification from SFI, Sustainable Furnishings Council), and a Green Associate (certification from USGBC, United States Green Building Council), incorporating sustainability measures like energy savings and healthy indoor air quality into the Fuse Living projects. She also studies topics of environmental psychology: the relationship between humans and our built environment. She believes that, in our fast paced and technological world, it is of upmost importance to offset the negative effects that come from technology by creating spaces and homes that allow for brain restoration and a sense of place.

Shannon’s key roles include project visions, design implementation, general project oversight, general contractor coordination, design team coordination. Shannon has a love for people and a passion for smart, beautiful, practical, and innovative design. She does what she does to give people a more positive experience living in their homes, in hopes to set her residents up for success in their lives.

Jerry Meek is the President of Desert Star Construction celebrating 42 years in business. He is honored to lead what has been defined by clients and industry colleagues as “the best team in the luxury home business.” Jerry is known for building great teams and constructing the most complicated custom luxury projects by putting people before profits. The combined annual sales revenue of DSC clients’ companies is in excess of $3.6 trillion dollars and growing, affirming Jerry’s belief, "We're not just building the American Dream – we're living it."

Desert Star Construction was born with a focus on excellence and integrity, advancing from the construction and remodel jobs “that no one else wanted” to becoming an award-winning landmark commodity that regularly completes Arizona’s most prestigious Personal Resorts®. The last decade has been focused on continuous growth and expansion of the DSC brand, leading to the creation of Desert Star Concierge® in 2015, a proactive maintenance company for DSC built projects as well as homes built by others.

In the process, DSC's results have been published in more than 30 magazines and earned honors such as multiple Gold Nugget Awards, Phoenix Home & Garden Home of the Year, Southwest Contractor, and NAHB Custom Home of the Year. In 2017, Jerry was the first-ever luxury custom home builder to receive Phoenix Home & Garden's Master of the Southwest, an award program in its 27th year that recognizes the best in design and craftsmanship.

What means the most to Jerry is the relationships he has built with his clients and teams. Community involvement has been a wonderful byproduct of these relationships with great opportunities to assist others. One such rewarding accomplishment was being the founding president of the Phoenix Dream Center Foundation. In this role, Team DSC® received the Heart of Business Award and Community Spirit Award for building a new commercial kitchen that has since served over 5.5 million meals to individuals in addiction recovery, human trafficking, and foster care programs.

Jerry continues to enjoy time with Carol, his wife of almost 40 years, and their two adult sons, Jeremy and Jonathan. He loves travel, hiking and the outdoors. He is honored to be a guest speaker at various colleges and loves to help others succeed. He has written two books, one of which we discuss today: “Be Great ...Before It’s Two Late.”

Life is like an auction: you get your best returns if you don’t set a reserve on it. The foremost “auctiontainer” who works with premier nonprofits such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, Letitia Frye knows how important it is to designate auctions as “no reserve,” or without a minimum bid. What’s more, she’s learned how crucial it is to approach life this way as well. When there is no perceived limitation, there is room for chance—as in, unlimited opportunities for success. Having worked her way to the top of a male-dominated industry, left a turbulent marriage to build a high-profile career as a single mom, suffered the devastating losses of her ex-husband and her plus-one child, and survived a traumatic brain injury, Letitia has bounced back from tragedy and beaten the odds multiple times and emerged stronger, more confident, and more successful. In No Reserve, she shares eleven key strategies that will help readers stop limiting themselves in all their endeavors—their career, their relationships, and their personal growth. As readers will discover, you can have everything you want in life, but you have to stop looking for opportunities to come to you, or for the road suddenly to become easier. Oftentimes, you have to make your own path: do the work before getting paid for it, create your own network by mentoring others, and give generously of yourself when you think you have little or nothing to offer. By implementing these and other principles, you will learn to build an authentic, absolute life in which you create the value you deserve.

    Inside a Designer’s Mind: Inspiration

    Days of Design: ICONIC HAUS

Anita Lang founded IMI Design in 1992. Guided by the principle belief that great design elevates the human spirit, Anita and her team craft spaces that attract and inspire an elite clientele worldwide. She is LEED certified and passionate about the environment.

With extensive experience in both residential and commercial developments, she brings vast knowledge to creating sophisticated, yet warm and livable, interior spaces. Through thoughtful curation, each project is approached with an expert mix of traditional and modern aesthetics using bespoke furnishings that embrace both art and design, while reflecting the style of her clients.

Under Anita’s leadership and keen business approach, IMI Design has expanded its luxury residential offerings by creating a division that caters to real estate developers selling multimillion-dollar residences. Developers appreciate how IMI anticipates the demanding lifestyle of their luxury buyers by conceptualizing innovative room adjacencies, space allocation and room allocation. IMI’s fresh approach, coupled with the firm’s design expertise, considers every nuance of the kitchen, fireplaces, ceiling and surfaces to achieve extraordinary high-end spaces.

In 2015, after years of designing custom furniture for her clients, Anita launched her own furniture line: Design 528. From sustainable wood harvesting and hand craftmanship to design intentions and ethical practices, Design 528 embodies the attributes of love, truth and beauty in unequalled heirloom pieces of lifestyle artwork.

Anita supports many charitable organizations within the Phoenix and global communities. In 2007, Anita established a nonprofit organization for IMI Design called the Inspire Foundation. The Inspire Foundation combines the talents of designers, architects and artisans along with educational institutes and their students to help support the community, especially those impacting the lives of distressed women and children.

Chef Lisa Dahl is one of the country’s leading female chefs and restaurateurs who has pioneered the culinary scene in Sedona, Ariz. for the past 20 years. Dahl is the executive chef and owner of four outstanding restaurants in Northern Arizona’s red rock country where she has earned international acclaim for Dahl & Di Luca Ristorante Italiano, Cucina Rustica, Pisa Lisa, Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill and Butterfly Burger. This week, she launched Dahl-to-Door national meal delivery.

After shedding her life in the Bay Area and a career in the fashion industry following the loss of her son Justin, Dahl sought healing and moved to Sedona, a town famous for its spiritual energy and restorative powers. Once settled, she unearthed her long-held passion for cooking, one that she and Justin shared. Honoring Justin’s memory is part of each of her restaurants.

A James Beard House-featured chef, Dahl is widely credited for Sedona’s emergence as a national “foodie destination.” As a self-taught chef, Dahl was the first to introduce fine dining to Sedona in the late ‘90s with the opening of Dahl & Di Luca and has since expanded to become the largest restaurant group in the area with accolades spanning the culinary spectrum.

Dahl’s cooking style is diverse and includes high-end traditional Italian, rustic Mediterranean, South American-inspired and wood-fired pizza, considered among the best in Arizona. She’s also a grill master and just won Arizona’s “2018 Burger Battle” giving her the opportunity to advance to the World Food Championships.

Chef Dahl and her restaurants have been featured on The Food Network, Travel + Leisure, USA Today, The New York Times, Wine Spectator, Travel Channel, Huffington Post, MSN.com and Marie Claire, to name a few.

Today, Dahl Restaurant Group welcomes nearly 400,000 guests annually across all four restaurants and employs close to 250 people, many of whom have been with the company for over 15 years. Each of Dahl’s restaurants continue to garner prestigious recognition and accolades. Twelve consecutive years of Wine Spectator awards decorate the walls of Cucina Rustica and Dahl and Di Luca.

“From an early age, I obsessively studied the pages of Seventeen Magazine fantasizing about the fashion and the life it brought with it.  As a college student in NYC and Paris, examining the store windows of Fifth Avenue in NYC and Avenue Montaigne in Paris became as much of a daily priority as my course work in classic literature. I’ve been hooked on fashion and the self-empowerment it brings with it ever since!

I was born in a working-class town outside of Boston and was raised by traditional Greek parents who always made me feel like the world was mine to conquer. I knew I needed to be educated and earned multiple degrees at New York University and Babson College. I knew I needed to work hard and honed my skills as an entrepreneur by starting and building multiple businesses. The biggest lesson was the realization that how I dressed was an important arsenal when it came to building the life I dreamed of.

As a life-long fashion lover, entrepreneur and dreamer, I set out to create a new concept in traditional consignment shopping where designer fashion is sourced from the best of the past to collections from the most exciting emerging designers on the fashion scene, all sourced from all corners of the globe and offered at discounted prices.

Almost six years after opening the first location, our brand boasts four locations with two in Scottsdale, one in Dallas and a fourth on famed Robertson Blvd. in Los Angeles. My personal mantras and advice to clients are:  Dress for the life you want, take some risks, think outside of the box, have the courage to be different and buy it when you see it!
