You did it.
You figured out what kind of help you needed. You found the right person. You interviewed them, tested the fit, made your choice — and finally got to say those two beautiful words:
You’re hired.
But then Monday morning rolls around. Your shiny new team member is sitting there in your office or in your inbox – ready to go and waiting for instructions…
And that’s when it hits you.
Ohhhhhhh. Now I have to TEACH them how to do all of this. 😳
Ruh-roh, Scooby Doo.
That’s where the final stage of the CAST Method™ comes in: TRUST.
Because hiring someone is an act of hope. Onboarding them well is how you turn that hope into trust.
In this fourth and final episode of my series on hiring in your private practice, I’m walking you through the first 90 days with your new hire, and the five stages that will help both of you build a working relationship that lasts.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
The goal here isn’t to hover over their shoulder.
It’s to teach well, stay close long enough for both of you to learn, and then gradually get out of the way.
So that eventually, you’ll trust your new hire to do what you hired them to do — and they will trust that they made the right decision when they said yes. :)
And when that happens?
You’ve moved past hiring help to save your sanity… Now you’re building a culture. A strategic partnership.
Now you’re building a team.
Congrats!
~Wendy
P.S. There are a LOT of moving pieces to keep track of during those first few months, so I’ve created something to make this easier for you! Grab your free CAST Method™ 90-Day Onboarding Checklist at wendypittsreeves.com/onboarding. It will walk you through the practical details you’ll want to think about from Day One through that first 90-day review.

Ok - so let's pause for a moment, here in week 3 of this series...
You've done the work.
You figured out where you needed help and why. You got clear about the role you're ready to fill. You wrote a spectacular job post designed to attract the right people.
And now?
The applications are coming in. 😳
Now what?!
Well - if you're already overwhelmed and desperate for help, you might be tempted to hire fast... But hiring the first person who seems smart, capable and likable can cost you a LOT more time and money later if they turn out to be the wrong fit.
Go back and read that last sentence again.
Today, in part 3 of my CAST™ Method for Hiring in Your Private Practice, we’re slowing things down just enough to help you make a better decision.
This week, we’re talking about Selection.
I’ll walk you through two distinct phases: first, how to sort through your applicant pool and identify those who deserve a closer look; then, how to hire by moving your finalists beyond the interview and into a real-world working audition.
Interviews can tell you a lot, but at some point, you need more than what someone says they can do.
You need evidence.
So in this episode, you’ll learn:
And here's the best part!
I’ve created a brand-new tool to help you keep all of this straight.
The CAST™ Candidate Selection Scorecard walks you through each stage of the process, with specific criteria to evaluate, room for notes and observations, and prompts to help you tell the difference between real evidence and a simple case of “I just really like this person.”
You can grab your copy free at: www.wendypittsreeves.com/interview
Because here's the thing: doing this RIGHT – hiring well – does take time.
But when the person you bring into your team does more than take work off your plate — when they actually make your business better because they’re there?
It is worth every minute.
And yes, I'm speaking from experience. :)
~Wendy
P.S. Next week we’ll wrap up the CAST™ Method with one final piece: Trust — what happens after you say yes, and how to onboard your new hire in a way that sets both of you up to succeed.
Don't miss it!

When you’re hiring, your job post announcement should be more than a bullet list of duties, hours and pay rates.
Done well, it should help you decide exactly WHO the job is for.
In Part 2 of my four-part hiring series, we shift from Clarity into Attraction, the second stage of my CAST Method™ for hiring the right people for the job.
Today, I’m walking you through the process I use to create a detailed position profile that attracts the right people — and filters out the wrong ones — way before I ever schedule an interview.
Because here’s the thing.
The best hiring ads do more than list duties and qualifications. They communicate who you are, how you work, what you value, what you expect... ...and what kind of person will thrive as part of your team.
And when you get that right? You may find yourself with the best kind of hiring problem: too many great candidates to choose from.
Like I did last time. 😎
In this episode, you’ll learn:
I’ll also show you exactly how I’ve used this approach myself — and why it brought me some of the strongest applicants I’ve ever had.
The goal? To spend less time sorting through poor-fit candidates and more time choosing among people who could become a genuine long-term asset to your practice.
Want some help putting this into action?
I’ve created a free template that walks you through the process I’m teaching in this episode. It’s called The Perfect Position Profile, and it’s based on the framework I’ve used myself when hiring members of my own team.
Successfully. Repeatedly. Happily. :)
Grab your copy right here: www.wendypittsreeves.com/profile.
Use it as a guide to get started, make it your own, and you’ll have a hiring ad that makes ALL the difference.
Because the right people will see themselves in what you create - and that’s the start of a beautiful thing. :)
~Wendy
P.S. If you missed Part 1: Go back and check out Episode 204 first. That’s where I’ll help you get crystal clear about what you actually need to hire for before you begin looking for who.

Hiring your first team member (or heck, your 5th!) can feel both really exciting... and really scary.
(Am I right? 🤷🏼♀️)
Because most business owners hire when they're overwhelmed, and frankly, feeling a bit desperate…
So they hope against hope that the new hire works out. And they’re terrified that it won’t actually help at all.
Well - in my experience, that's all backwards.
The best hiring decisions don't begin with a job posting.
They begin with clarity.
In this first episode of a four-part series, I'll show you how to step back, evaluate the work that's actually happening inside your business, identify the role you actually need to fill…
…and avoid some of the expensive hiring mistakes I've seen over the years (including a few of my own!)
This is really going to help you.
In this episode, you'll learn:
The biggest takeaway? Hiring isn't about relieving overwhelm—it's about getting clear on the business you're really trying to build.
Because the clearer you are before you hire, the easier every decision becomes afterward.
Not even kidding, y’all.
And hey - I've put together a free Systems Audit Worksheet to go along with today's episode. It'll help you identify where your time is really going and where hiring could make the biggest difference.
You can absolutely do today's exercise without it, but I think it'll make the process much easier!
WendyPittsReeves.com/audit
Next week? I’m going to show you how to take the next step (one you will now be better prepared for!) because once you know what you're hiring for, it's time to attract the right people.
And I’ll show you how to do that before the interview process even begins!!
Now - go listen to this episode. Do your homework. And I’ll see you next week.
~Wendy
P.S. Don't make the mistake of thinking this series is only about hiring someone like a virtual assistant! Whether you're looking for someone to mow the yard, answer your phones, help with marketing, or become your next right hand... this process works.
Stay with me over the next four weeks 😘

Ok - so let's get real - ok?
If there's one word that can make therapists and healers roll their eyes and groan, it's marketing.
(See? I heard you. Just then! I did!)
For so many of us, it brings up old images of pushy salesmen, unbelievable promises, and the yucky energy of trying to convince someone to buy something they don't really need.
But that’s not who we are, is it? No. It’s not.
So it’s not how we market - either. K?
In this conversation from our Summer Replay Series, couples therapist, Mika Ross, shares a refreshingly human perspective on marketing — one that has nothing to do with pretending to be someone you're not – and everything to do with helping people recognize themselves in your story.
And one idea from our conversation has stayed with me ever since we first recorded this… People don't connect with perfection. They connect with someone who understands them in a way that most don’t.
It's the moment someone reads your words and thinks:
"How'd you know that?"
Yeah. That's where it all begins.
In this episode you'll hear:
So good.
You’ll also learn why trying to sound "professional" can sometimes create distance instead of connection. (I have to watch that, myself.)
Mika is a pure delight.
And I think, after hearing her, you’ll stop worrying about saying that oh-so-perfect and witty thing. I think you’ll realize that all you really have to do is talk to your audience exactly the way you would in your office - as someone who gets them…
…and can help them move forward.
Enjoy. :)

THIS was the most fascinating conversation!!!
When you hear what I’ve got for you today, I think you’re in for a surprise - a completely new way of thinking about private practice.
I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that - in general - we all assume that growth means seeing more clients, working longer hours, or opening another office. Because - what else could you do, right?
Well — what if there were another way?
I’m bringing back this favorite for our Summer Replay Series, when I spoke with Dr. Ajita Robinson, a grief and trauma therapist who has built an extraordinary mental health organization by thinking differently.
Through strategic partnerships, genuine relationships, and an unwavering commitment to serving others well, she's created an 8-figure practice without sacrificing the life she's building.
And yet - this conversation isn't really about building an 8-figure business.
It's about building a business that's aligned with who you are.
Along the way, Dr. Robinson shared how her early career in pharmaceutical sales unexpectedly prepared her for private practice (that’s a funny story!), why people don't want to be sold to (they want to be served) and how understanding someone else's needs can open doors you never imagined.
Whether your dream is to remain a solo practitioner, build a group practice, or simply create more freedom in your work, I think this conversation will stretch your thinking in all the best possible ways.
It sure did that for me! 💗
In this episode, you'll hear:
But more than anything, you’ll hear about Ajita’s determination to build that kind of success without sacrificing the things that mattered most in her life.
And that’s what got me. :)
See - you really CAN build a practice that's not only wildly successful, but also deeply aligned with who you are and how you want to live.
Sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn't learning something new—it's seeing what's been possible all along.
I hope this conversation helps you do exactly that.
~Wendy
P.S. And hey - if you've been listening for a while and wondering what your own next step might be, I'd love to help.
Whether you're looking for more clarity, more confidence, or simply another perspective on where your practice is headed, a Quick Start Consult is a great place to begin. It's a focused 90-minute strategy session designed to help you get unstuck, see new possibilities, and leave with a clear plan for what comes next. Learn more here.
I'd love to work with you. 💟

What if the problem isn't that you're not working hard enough at all…
What if the problem is that you've built a business that no longer feels like you?
As part of our Summer Replay Series, I'm bringing back one of my favorite conversations — and it is just as powerful today as it was when we first recorded it.
Maira Holzmann is a somatic therapist, group practice owner, and business coach whose approach to business is refreshingly different.
Rather than chasing someone else's definition of success, she set out to build a business that reflected her deepest values, honored her strengths, and supported the life she actually wanted to live.
Please — if you ever feel like you're having to sacrifice your Self in order to build your business — listen to this.
Because in this episode, you'll hear...
See here’s the thing.
Your success will feel completely different if it's rooted in your values instead of your ego, when you make decisions, take action, and craft your practice in the way that feels deeply true to who you are.
Deeply true to who you are…
And you’ll still make good money, have a life, and feel wonderful about the work you do.
Doesn’t get any better than that, does it?
So check it out. And let me know how this lands for you.
If this conversation resonates, I'd love to hear what stood out most. And if someone comes to mind who needs this reminder right now, share the episode with them! Not to sound over the top - but really - you could change someone’s life.
~Wendy
P.S. One of my favorite moments in this conversation comes near the very end, when I asked Maira what one last bit of wisdom she felt called to share. What she said has stayed with me ever since. I hope it stays with you, too. And if you know someone else who needs to hear this, please share it with them.

Two hundred episodes. Hundreds of conversations. Countless listeners around the world.
I'm so grateful you've been part of this journey, and it felt fitting to celebrate this milestone by revisiting some of the episodes that have stayed with me -- and apparently with many of you! -- as well.
So over the next few weeks, I'll be revisiting some of the conversations that have resonated most deeply with listeners over the years. Some surprised me. Some changed the way I think. And this one? We’re still talking about it years later.
Today I'm bringing back an interview with business coach Christine Miller, where we explore the often misunderstood idea of the Law of Attraction - not as magical thinking, but as the intersection of mindset, intentionality, and consistent action.
Whether you're a wholehearted believer, a curious skeptic, or somewhere in between, I think you'll find yourself challenged by this conversation in all the best ways.
Not to mention it’s just plain fun. 😉
In this episode you'll hear...
That’s a big one.
We’ll talk about how asking just one simple question – "What if it actually works?" – can completely change the way you approach your goals.
And how it can open you up to possibilities you may not even see yet. 💗
As you listen, pay attention to the ideas that make you nod along in agreement … AND the ones that make you squirm a little.
Because it’s in the latter that we often find the most room for growth. (That’s been my experience anyway!)
And I'd love to know what you think after you've listened.
~Wendy

Have you ever looked at your own practice through the eyes of someone who's trying to become your client?
Recently, I found myself on the other side of the consulting room, searching for a therapist of my own. It’s been a lonnnnng time, y’all. And - turns out - It’s been a much harder process than I expected!
As I worked my way through Psychology Today profiles, made initial phone calls, filled out forms and even tried out a few places - I was searching for someone who’d be a good fit in the ways I knew I needed…
And - because I can’t help myself - I couldn’t help but put on my coaching hat a few times along the way. I found myself paying attention to something I hadn't expected: the client experience.
I’m not talking about the therapy itself.
I’m talking about everything that happens before the work even begins.
So today, I’ve decided to share five unexpected lessons from that whole process, along with a gentle invitation to step back and see your own practice with fresh eyes.
This will be good for you. ;)
In this episode, you'll hear...
We’ll also explore how the smallest moments of curiosity, warmth, and genuine interest often matter more than perfect marketing.
MUCH more, actually. 🙂
Each of these is important in ways that we may not always realize… But oh-my-goodness when we get it right, we create the space that helps people feel welcomed, understood, and ready to begin the kind of work that could literally change their lives.
And isn’t that a wonderful thing? 🤗
Here's my invitation for you.
As you listen, I encourage you to think about your practice from the perspective of someone who's never met you before. Where are you making it easy for people to instinctively trust you?
And where might one small change make that experience even better?
I learned so much from this experience.
I hope you will too.
~Wendy
P.S. If this episode made you stop and think about your own practice, would you share it with another therapist or practice owner who might appreciate the reminder? Sometimes the smallest shifts create the biggest difference. 💙

If you've ever lain awake at night worrying about a client, found yourself replaying sessions in your head, or wondered where healthy compassion ends and unhealthy responsibility begins, this episode is for you.
Today I've shared the single most important lesson a mentor ever taught me about surviving this work with both your heart and your humanity intact.
It's a lesson that carried me through some of the hardest moments of my career—and one I now find myself passing along to therapists, coaches, and healers again and again.
In this episode, you’ll hear…
My message here is not that you should care less… It's that you must care wisely... so that you can continue serving people with compassion, clarity, and longevity—without sacrificing yourself in the process.
If this episode resonates with you, I'd love to hear your story!
Have you ever struggled to maintain healthy emotional boundaries in your work? Send me a note—I read every email.
