Idling In The Impala | a ride through SPN fandom and fanfiction

What does a podcast need? Listeners. Luckily, Sandra and Kasey have some of the best ones around. They’re spotlighting Idling in the Impala listeners in this episode. Specifically, they’re deep-diving into comments and interactions during April, May, and June.

As mentioned in the podcast, here’s the link for the Podfics in the Impala series on AO3:

Our podcast occasionally incorporates brief excerpts from the CW television show "Supernatural" for transformative commentary and analysis. This use falls under the Fair Use doctrine codified in Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act. The included clips are short, constituting only a minuscule portion of the original work, and illustrate specific points within our critical commentary. Our podcast does not compete with the show's market. This use promotes public discourse and understanding of the work, strengthening its cultural significance.

It’s a thing, Sandra and Kasey are making it a thing. It’s a season-by-season (cross fingers) rewatch with Joey (first-time watcher) and Ted (dragged into already too many rewatches by his wife, Sandra). This episode Season 2 is the focus, where all hell broke loose.

There are predictions and deep discussions. Enjoy the road trip!

Sandra and Kasey are trying something new! This inaugural episode format called Tags and Tropes will focus on a category or aspect of fanfiction that Sandra and Kasey may or may not have delved into before. The first one they’re tackling is the story trope of De-Aging, which can be found on AO3 under the wrangled main tag “Age Regression/De-Aging.”

Jane, also known as ThatGirlJaneFox and ScaryVonJeannieStyne on AO3, has been a long time listener of the podcast and reached out to us last year. Jane’s a self-proclaimed White Witch from Scotland. When Sandra found that out, Jane was invited on to the podcast to discuss Supernatural and how it portrays witches and witchcraft.

You can read Jane’s works on AO3.

Family don’t end in blood. And, apparently, family doesn’t end when you talk a relative’s ear off about Supernatural. Sandra and Kasey had a great time discussing Season 1 of Supernatural with first-time watcher, Joey. Oh, and Ted was along for the ride to provide a slightly less obsessive take on the Family Business.

Podfic Narration Time – “And She Was” by quickreaver

It’s kind of unfair how talented quickreaver is to be honest. Not only is she an amazing artist, but she is also an extremely talented writer. Once I got permission to narrate her stuff, I have to admit that I couldn’t decide. So, I ended up picking two. Here’s my second pick, “And She Was.” This one is less high stakes, more magic ~ Dean being Dean, Sam being so over him, per usual. The voices of the characters really ring authentic in this short supernatural story.

Please visit the fic on AO3 and give it a kudo and comment - it deserves a ton of praise!

Podfic Narration Time – “Rabbits Scream” by quickreaver

It’s kind of unfair how talented quickreaver is to be honest. Not only is she an amazing artist, but she is also an extremely talented writer. Once I got permission to narrate her stuff, I admit I couldn’t decide. So, I ended up picking two. First up is Rabbits Scream. I was immediately captivated by how the words in this story painted each moment in vivid detail.

Sam is still seeing the Devil, but he's dealing. Dealing in ways he could never predict. A simple morning jog takes a wrong turn that just may put him in the right place after all.

Add another check to the Sam column! Sandra and Kasey had the privilege of talking to the awesomely accomplished Cris, known as quickreaver in the SPN fandom. Cris describes herself as Sam-centric and Dean-flavored. With over 75 works on AO3, consisting of both written and digital art, she’s been creating in the Supernatural community since the heyday of LiveJournal.

Sandra and Kasey were in awe of this legend and talent. Listen, and you will be blown away as well.
