Our podcast occasionally incorporates brief excerpts from the CW television show "Supernatural" for purposes of transformative commentary and analysis. We believe this use falls under the Fair Use doctrine codified in Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act. The included clips are short, constituting only a miniscule portion of the original work, and serve to illustrate specific points within our critical commentary. Our podcast does not compete with the show's market. We believe this use promotes public discourse and understanding of the work, ultimately strengthening its cultural significance.

As part of Sandra and Kasey’s ranking rehab, they’re addressing the underlying issues that contribute to their addiction. One of those issues is the amazing characters on Supernatural. So, why not rank their favorites?

May 4th, 2024 is a day that Kasey will never forget! They met Jared Padalecki –the keeper of Sam Winchester– at Comic Con Liverpool UK! Special Con Field Reporter, Ted, is along for the ride with Sandra to hear all about the chaos that occurred. Trust us, you’re going to want to listen. It’s a long one, y’all!

Did you think Sandra and Kasey forgot about Canon Fodder? It has been more than a minute since they’ve done one, so it’s a logical assumption.

They’re bringing it back in 2024 but with a twist. The Idling in the Impala Discord server is a happening place where talented authors hang out. The Discord server has a channel for these lovely writers to self-rec the awesome stories they’ve created. Sandra and Kasey brought a couple of these recs for you to experience.

Kasey’s Fic Rec

Sam/Reader, Dean/Reader (Rated Explicit): Heat by jinkieswouldyoulookatthis

Sandra’s Fic Rec

AU, General, Pre-Series (Rated Teen): Beneath Your Wings (Part of The Older Brother Verse) by Edge_of_Clairvoyance

(Cause Sandra can’t rec enough Edge, here’s another one: Loose Spirits)

PodFic of Sweet Sixteen (yep, another Edge one)

Come join the fun in the IITI Discord server!

Sandra and Kasey were excited to welcome back BJ, darali_starscream on AO3, to talk about her current in-progress/posted work, Double Booked.

The Sam/Reader/Dean fic summary on AO3 reads: “A non-chronological log of various encounters, incidents, and exchanges of things. Mostly kinky. Mind the tags please.”

This brief summary doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the themes and characterizations lying in wait for a reader to uncover under mind-blowing smut. It’s blown up on AO3 with over 17,000 hits at the time of recording. It seemed like a great time to gently take this author to task. Luckily, BJ agreed.

You can read Double-Booked here.

What does a podcast need? Listeners. Luckily, Sandra and Kasey have some of the best ones around. They’re spotlighting Idling in the Impala listeners in this episode. Specifically, they’re deep-diving into comments and interactions during the months of February and March.

Hopefully, this becomes an every few months thing. As always, they hope you enjoy the ride and thank you for listening!

It’s taken the converging of two Supernatural podcasts, but Sandra and Kasey have finally done it. There’s a Sam-focused topic up for discussion on this episode! (Fear not, Dean lovers, the shorter brother gets plenty of attention, too.)

Supernatural Opinions Podcast hosts, KJ and Meredith, jumped into the IITI backseat for this chat. Sandra and Kasey have recorded two guest spots for Supernatural Opinions. They were fun and lively discussions. KJ, Meredith, and Kasey were basking in the collective glow of having people around to hold up the very heavy moose that is Sam Winchester. So, of course, they wanted to keep the Sam Love flowing.

Sam’s sexuality has been a topic Sandra and Kasey have visited and entertained. KJ and Meredith had their thoughts as well. Lucky listeners, you get to hear all about it in this episode!

Excerpt from runawaydr3amer’s notes on Sandman:

“This whole thing is kinky and explicit AF. It's got a good whack of angst, especially at the start, but if you take a chance on me, I promise it's also schmoopy as all get-out. Despite the somewhat alarming tags, please note that I only write happy endings.

If you don't like men showing emotions in response to trauma, this is not the right place for you.”

This doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the Wincest epic that is the Sandman ‘verse. And it’s obvious many readers like men showing emotions in response to trauma—the series, which began in 2022 and was completed in 2023, currently has well over 30,000 hits and almost 1,000 kudos on AO3!

Sandra and Kasey talked to Dreamer about everything they could think of about this story: from inspiration to the writing and beta process and posting decisions when you’ve got a 311,000 word-count baby you want to share with the Supernatural FanFic world. It’s a lot! You’re gonna want to get comfy with a beverage for this one!

Podfic Narration Time – “Smoke Eater” by Zeppelin_Skies

Congratulations to SPN FanFic Pond member zepskies (Zeppelin_Skies on AO3) on her “Leap Year” event win! She chose the prize to have me narrate one of her stories. She picked the first chapter of “Smoke Eater” which is her first ever SPN AU that showcases her love of procedural shows - and really, how can you go wrong with Firefighter!Dean. Have a listen!

Rated Explicit (eventually)

Dean Winchester/Reader

Summary:

Dean Winchester is the cocky, but well-respected Lieutenant at Firehouse 25. He leads by example, but he’s also known to break a few hearts. He’s starting to crave something he’s never had, though. Something stable. Something real.

That’s when he meets you, on a truly terrible day, trapped in a rickety old elevator.

No toes in the sand for Kasey or Sandra, but they are taking a holiday break from recording. So, Sandra compiled some outtakes from back in early 2023. Enjoy a blast from the past!
