Idling In The Impala | a ride through SPN fandom and fanfiction

To the Americans - Happy Independence! To the Brits - Happy Tuesday?!?

No worries, Sandra and Karlee will be back to their usual shenanigans next week.

But, if you need some relevant podcasting for the Fourth of July, may they suggest their episode last year on the British Men of Letters. They also had a lively discussion on the differences between American and British Culture, centering on the important topic of FOOD.

Is it fair for Sandra to be the only one to listen to Karlee’s rants about sexual myths in fics? Of course not. You all get to sign up for the class and get lectured by the Agent of Chaos and Kink on best sex practices. Tentatively, plans are for this to be a new podcast series on Idling in the Impala, so let them know your thoughts after you listen.

Today’s subject in Sex Education with Karlee is lube and the many activities it helps to facilitate.

Disclaimer - The instructor gets very passionate about the topic. Some squeek and ick in the discussion may be uncomfortable for listeners. The discussion is meant for entertainment purposes. (Mind the volume. Also, the Yorkshire accent was unavoidable.)

You can check out Karlee’s class materials here.

It’s been a minute since Sandra released her ninth romance novel, Cowboy Canter. Karlee’s read it and has questions about the story, Sandra’s inspiration, her writing process, and the journey to becoming a self-published author. Saddle up for the discussion! (SPOILERS for the story happen 55 minutes to an hour into the chat.) And, if you haven’t already, grab yourself a copy of Cowboy Canter or get info on any of Sandra’s other novels on her website, sandrakyle.com.

Podfic Narration Time – “Idling in the Impala” by KarleeKarma

Karlee wrote this quite a while ago, well before we decided to try this little podcast project. It seemed like an excellent time to narrate this fic for all the comfort feels it brings. Enjoy!

You can read the fic on AO3 here and give it all the kudos and comments.

Summary:

Imagine being tucked up in the back seat of the Impala while Dean drives and Sam researches. It's warm, you have a flannel shirt for a pillow. The radio is playing softly and Dean is singing along. The road rumbles under the tyres as the miles pass by.

A resounding sentiment echoed repeatedly in the Supernatural fandom is the comfort the characters give to those that watch the show. In this episode, Karlee and Sandra explain why a couple of characters (besides the obvious) provide them comfort.

OMG! We got a voicemail! Seriously, it’s one of the coolest things a listener can do to contact us. If you want to rec a fic, we’ll leave links below on how to do it.

In this episode, Karlee and I gush over the first listener that left us a VM and talk about their fic rec. And you get to hear me read the intro of it. Win-win all around!

Much love to all our listeners and the many ways they reach out and touch us. Get your minds out of the gutter! Oh, who are we kidding, like we’re not right there with you rolling around in the filth.

Also, here’s a link to an awesome Etsy shop, ReadingRoomCandleCo, that sells Supernatural theme-scented candles. Karlee and I have the set. We’re those fans. Listen to the episode and you’ll understand.

Big hugs! ~ Sandra

Karlee’s kind of proud of themselves. They made Sandra HATE Dean. The discussion continues about Karlee’s Wincest fanfic, Demonic Junkies. They go deep into Dean’s Id and try to unwind the Winchester family dynamic's tangled mess.

If you haven’t read Demonic Junkies yet and this episode has you interested, check it out on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/series/3336562

There’s an audio and video option for this episode on Spotify. If you are listening on another platform, you can follow along with Sandra’s handy-dandy presentation here.

Are you a lover of Supernatural fanfiction? Do you read it? Are you a writer of it? Then you will surely be able to empathize with the corner Karlee wrote themselves into during their creative journey that produced the series Demonic Junkies.

Join Sandra as she gets into the weeds of Karlee’s brain. They discuss how the simple thought “It was just supposed to be a little bit of Wincest” turned into an amazing character study and bucketloads of angsty feels.

If you haven’t read Demonic Junkies yet and this episode has you interested, check it out on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/series/3336562

There’s an audio and video option for this episode on Spotify. You know Sandra couldn’t take Karlee to task without some visual aids. If you are listening on another platform, you can follow along with Sandra’s handy-dandy presentation here.

Congratulations to SPN FanFic Pond member FarrenMurphy (FeaRauko on AO3) on their recent win! They chose the prize to have me narrate one of their stories. It was a super cute read. Have a listen!
