This one's for all the queer Africans who were told to tone it down so they could fit in. This one is also for everyone who hid pictures of themselves, changed their voice, and didn't talk at family gatherings because they thought that would keep them safe. Respectability politics are control, not protection. They don't stop violence, rejection, or gossip; they just make it easier to erase you. They will still call you an abomination even if you follow their rules.
