Today sees the start of DC’s first big event comic since the launch of Rebirth, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad by writer Joshua Williamson and a host of top-tier artists, starting with Jason Fabok of “The Darkseid War” fame. Today’s Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #1 set up the threat that will bring the two teams to blows -- a group of largely unknown supervillains led by a familiar face from DC lore.

Suicide Squad finally wraps up the "Black Vault" story arc with this issue. The end might have come sooner if it weren't for the odd structure of these eight issues, but then we probably wouldn't have seen Jim Lee draw the whole thing. This final chapter has its problems, but it looks great and ends the conflict on a fun, raucous note. Writer Rob Williams takes the opportunity to get a little sillier with this issue.

Gotham City is a crucial part of the Batman mythos. It's a breeding ground for some of the most terrifying villains in the DC Universe, as well as some of its greatest heroes. And with its distinctive architecture and eerie, fog-covered skyline, it looks like no other city in pop culture. Gotham is as much a character as Batman or Joker. And much like Batman himself, Gotham's look has evolved quite a bit over the years.

I recently attended a preview of 20th Century Fox’s 2017 movie slate, which included getting to see the first 40 minutes of Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine 3, a.k.a. what Hugh Jackman says will be his last X-Men film. For now, I’m embargoed on talking about what I specifically saw that day, but I did notice something interesting that I can share. Namely, that the classic Western Shane is clearly going to be an influence on Jackman and director James Mangold’s film.

R.L. Stine, perhaps best known as the author of the Goosebumps series of horror books, will write the upcoming return of Marvel's Man-Thing. The run, which begins in March, will span 5 issues. Stine toldthe New York Times working on comics has been a life-long dream. "My first ambition was to be a comic book artist," the author said. Covers for the new series, done by horror-comic artist Tyler Crook, will be inspired by classic horror comics of the 1950s.

This August I was among a handful of writers invited to watch a day of shooting with Michael Bay and the cast and crew of Transformers: The Last Knight. The explosions and action sequences we saw were of course amazing and it’s always fun to talk to movie stars. But none of that was surprising.

Many of the criticisms regarding this season's (over)use of Negan -- which started back in the season premiere and continued on in "Service" -- still hold firm here in "Sing Me a Song," a particularly Negan-heavy episode perched right before the midseason finale. Clocking in at an hour and a half, with commercials, "Sing Me a Song" took us back to the Saviors compound for, basically, a repeat tour.
