Welcome to the season finale of I'll Show You Mine! James is closing it out by showing Elyse "Ape Escape" for the PlayStation, released in 1999. This game was designed to feature the new Dual Shock controller for the PlayStation, so the controls are a little different than the typical 3-D platformers of the time. Also you're chasing time-traveling monkeys.
Join us as we talk about choosing between Nintendo and Sony back in the day, how the weirdness of this game is kind of what makes it fun, and the great Anime Wave of the late 90s and early 2000s that inspired a generation of young artists.
Thanks for listening, friends! We'll be taking the rest of May off to take a breather and get ready for the next season. See you in June!

Welcome to another switcheroo episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse is showing James a video game: California Games for the NES to be precise. Released in 1987 by Epyx, California Games is a small collection of sports mini games that are simple to learn and difficult to master.
Join us as we talk about the merciless precision of 80s arcade style games, reminisce about how even these pixel art stages evoke memories of growing up here in California, and try out our best surfer dude voices.
We'll be back to normal on May 8th when James actually will show Elyse "Ape Escape" for the PlayStation.

Welcome to I'll Show You Mine's first April Fool's switcheroo episode! This month we're switching things up a bit, with James showing Elyse a movie and Elyse showing James a video game.
This time we're watching Rumble in the Bronx, Jackie Chan's US debut from 1995. James saw this movie as a young boy and it immediately made him a Jackie Chan fan. Join us as we talk about the legacy of the Hong Kong style of martial arts action movies, Jackie Chan's signature action-comedy style, and the so-bad-it's-good dubbing throughout this perfectly 90s spectacle.
Our next topsy-turvy episode will be April 24th, when Elyse shows James "California Games" for the NES.

It's another episode of I'll Show You Mine! A bit late, but we made it! This time Elyse shows James "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" from 1959, starring Albert Sharpe, Janet Munro and Sean Connery in his first role, directed by Robert Stevenson.
Darby O'Gill is a live action Disney movie about an old caretaker named Darby and his adventures with the various creatures of Irish folklore, particularly the King of the leprechauns, King Brian. Join us as we talk about this charming oddity and what makes it fun, because we needed a little bit of a break from taking things seriously this week.
Our next episode will be April 10th, when James shows Elyse "Ape Escape" for the PS.

Welcome to the sun-soaked beach that is a new episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week James shows Elyse "Tropico" the island management/dictatorship (??) simulator for Mac and PC from 2001.
Join us as we dive in to this point-and-click monster of a game that is chock full of summery ambiance, problematic themes, and Comic Sans. We're talking about the vibe, the awkward bits, and the odd charm of this game despite its age and pitfalls. Also, the soundtrack slaps.
Our next episode will be March 27th, when Elyse show James "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" from 1959.

Welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse shows James "Paris is Burning" the documentary about the gay ball scene of New York in the 1980s from 1990. This film has received a lot of praise as well as controversy over the years, but it remains a landmark of gay cinema and a historical record for the origins of drag culture and gay life for Black and Latinx youth in 80s New York.
Join us as Elyse runs absolutely buckwild talking about gender, sexuality, and identity while James is extremely straight and lost but still kind and appreciative. We talk about how the slang of ball culture has crossed over to the mainstream, the range of identities, personalities and opinions that we see on screen, and try desperately to do justice to all the layers of this movie and the community it represents.
Please be warned that the film covers the unfortunate death of one of the interviewees, Venus Xtravaganza, and we discuss it at the beginning of the second part of the show and at the end of the episode. It's very sad and may be triggering, some listeners may choose to skip it.
Our next episode will be March 13th, when James shows Elyse "Tropico" for PC.

Welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! This time, James shows Elyse "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" (commonly known as simply "Yoshi's Island") for the Super Nintendo, released in 1995. This game bridges the gap between the Mario and Yoshi games that would come in later years, and still remains a fan favorite.
Join us as we lavish praise on this beloved game, talk about what makes Yoshi's world so appealing in both looks and gameplay, and #GETTHATBABYHOME!
Our next episode will be February 27th, when Elyse shows James "Paris Is Burning" from 1990.

Welcome back to I'll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse shows James "Stand and Deliver" from 1988. Based on the inspiring true story of Jaime Escalante, the movie follows a determined math teacher as he tries to teach his East LA students calculus and get them to pass the Advanced Placement test.
Join us as we discuss Stand and Deliver's place in the Mexican-American film canon, Elyse gets emotional over the icon Edward James Olmos, we consider our own experiences with AP classes, and we forget the name of Angel's friend (It's Chuco).
Our next episode will be February 13th, when James shows Elyse "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" for the SNES.

Happy New Year and welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! This one was a doozy. We played Katamari Damacy, Elyse got sick, AGDQ was on, the government is shut down, it was A Lot. But we made it through the other side because this game is just that good.
Join us as we talk about Katamari Damacy and its surreal charms, how satisfying it is to roll a bunch of stuff up into a ball (especially people!) and the striking visuals and soundtrack that made this game a cult classic.
Our next episode will be January 30th, when Elyse shows James "Stand and Deliver" from 1988.

It's a Very Special Christmas episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse shows James "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas", the Jim Henson directed Christmas TV special from 1977. It's the story of Emmet Otter and his Ma, who both want nothing more than to give the other a wonderful Christmas.
Join us as we talk about how utterly charming this little movie is, marvel at the puppeteering innovations that went into the production, and get genuinely emotional over the story of two poor little otters.
We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and have a happy New Year! See you in 2019!
Our next episode will be January 9th, when James shows Elyse "Katamari Damacy" for the PS2.
