  • I’ll Show You… RollerCoaster Tycoon (PC, 1999)

Welcome back to I'll Show You Mine! This week, James shows Elyse one of the titans of the simulator genre, RollerCoaster Tycoon for the PC. The word of this episode is... Granular. We're going deep friends, because RCT is just an incredibly dense and beloved game that is a lot more than meets the eye! Join us as we discuss the dollhouse appeal of building a tiny theme park, compare coaster creation to animation, and DROWN IN DATA. Also please excuse our voices not being top notch this week, we're still getting over being sick last week!

Finally, please watch this video of a roller coaster absolutely destroying a line of people in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: https://youtu.be/GpCaK8ISSYA

  • I’ll Show You… Bring It On (2000)

This week on I'll Show You Mine it's time to Be! Aggressive! B-E Aggressive! as we dive into the snarky and ridiculous teen classic, Bring It On, directed by Peyton Reed and starring Kirsten Dunst, Gabrielle Union, and Eliza Dushku. We're talking about this movie's place in the canon of teen comedies, the somewhat dated mean-spirited humor, and the subtext of gay relationships that bubble beneath the surface.

Join us as we pick apart this seemingly shallow flick, and also please note that this is a movie that uses slurs and pejoratives liberally. We try not to use them in our discussion but they will show up in some clips.

  • I’ll Show You… State Fair (1945)

This week on I'll Show You Mine we're getting musical as Elyse shows James "State Fair" from 1945. The only Rodgers & Hammerstein musical written specifically for the screen, it's a good old fashioned story about the Frake family and one memorable trip to the Iowa State Fair. Join us as we talk about the movie's catchy tunes and uniquely 1940s flair, and James focuses purely on the scenes featuring Blue Boy, the Frakes' massive boar.

Welcome to I'll Show You Mine! This week, Elyse shows James the 1990 film, The Witches, based on the book by Roald Dahl. A movie burned into the brains of many a 90s youth, it's the story of a young boy and his grandmother and their unexpected quest to destroy all the witches in England while on holiday at a seaside hotel, and stop their plan to turn all the children in the country into mice.

We talk about the visceral transformations in this movie, "Cronenberg mice," the terrible changed ending, and nerd out over sweet mouse stunts. Join us, won't you?

  • I’ll Show You… Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (N64, 1996)

Welcome back to another episode of I'll Show You Mine!

This week, James shows Elyse Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, a video game for the N64 that was one part of a multimedia ancillary IP within the Star Wars extended universe, which featured a new villain named Prince Xizor and a familiar-yet-different roguish hero named Dash Rendar.

In this episode, James recalls sleepovers past, Elyse sees an opportunity to flex her film studies muscles and takes it, and we both say "wild" a lot, because this game is very bad.

  • I’ll Show You… Cats Don’t Dance (1997)

This week on I'll Show You Mine, we delve into the world of animation as Elyse shows James Turner Feature Animation's last movie, Cats Don't Dance. Though it didn't make big waves at the box office, the film has become something of a cult favorite within animation, and Elyse explains why she loved it so much as a kid. Join us as we vibe to some good good Randy Newman tunes, discuss the "grotesquerie" of classic Warner Bros. animation vs Disney wholesomeness, and forget what year Pocahontas came out (it was '95, Hercules came out in 1997!)

  • I’ll Show You… Paperboy (NES, 1988)

Welcome to another episode of I'll Show You Mine! This week it's James' turn and he shows Elyse the NES version of the 80s arcade classic, Paperboy. It's... kind of a mess. But a nostalgic and silly mess, arguably the best kind. We'll discuss our first memories of gaming, when a game goes from good-difficult to bad-difficult, and then the Grim Reaper shows up. Join us, won't you?

  • I’ll Show You… Memories of Murder (2003)

This week on I'll Show You Mine... Elyse shows James the South Korean crime drama, Memories of Murder. Directed by Bong Joon-ho in 2003, the movie follows the true story of Korea's first recorded serial killer in 1986. The film stars Song Kang-ho as Inspector Park Doo-man and Kim Sang-kyung as Inspector Seo Tae-yoon, two detectives with completely opposing views on how best to catch the killer. We'll talk about how this movie differs from its Hollywood counterparts by doing the unexpected, and dig into the rich visual narrative director Bong lays out for the viewer.

P.S. Just a warning, we don't get very graphic in our discussion of the film but this is a story about a series of rapes and murders which may be upsetting.
