  • 46. Vicki's Story: Uncovering Sexual Trauma in Sobriety

Vicki is 62 years old, she's a self declared army brat and the other of two incredibly smart girls.  She began drinking at age 14, sex followed.  She did well in School and made it through college, getting a job as a middle school art teacher, which lasted 30 years.  She began recovery in May of 2017, no relapse. She began with a first step program (15 days inpatient followed by 6 weeks intensive outpatient)  Over the past 5 years many good things have come to Vicki.

On January 25th 2022, Vicki Asked her only remaining relative, her uncle, if there was anything disturbing on that side of the family.  As it turned out, Vicki’s mother caught Vicki’s grandfather doing something to her…it was the mid 1960’s when this happened.  Vicki has no memory yet.

Vickie is still searching for herself, she knows she’s in there somewhere.  While she processes that work, Vicki loves to share with others who have questions about sobriety…

  • 44. Heather's Story: Recovery vs Sobriety?

If there is one thing that was consistent about Heather’s life it is change.  She is a global nomad who splits her time between Saudi Arabia and Washington State.  She is a mother of three mighty girls who live with chronic illness.  Heather has been in recovery from alcohol for 4 years and has 10 months of consecutive sobriety.  She is so grateful to have found some magic in the messy middle of my life.

Heather has a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in New York.  Over the last two decades she has found her calling working with children, teens and their families in a variety of settings.  She currently coaches women and teens experiencing a period of change or transition, and is training to become a She Recovers Coach and Mindfulness Coach and Teacher.

Heather is here today because she believes in the importance of recovering out loud.  She says, “I would not be as far along in my own recovery if it weren’t for women who came before sharing their experiences.  I believe in the power of stories.”

Fun Fact: Jonny is from the UK and Jonny is NOT Sober.

Jonny Pardoe is the podcast host of the top 1% podcast the self esteem and confidence mindset, a podcast specializing in self esteem and confidence with over 1.6 million downloads. He is an author of 7 books, an elite level qualified Neuro Encoding specialist and former confidence coach. Jonny loves personal growth and socializing.

Jonny began his relationship with alcohol in his teens (he’s now 31) and he considers himself to have had a good and a bad relationship with alcohol.  The bad have led to some extremely dark times.  And the good have, quite honestly been fun.

Jonny is joining the podcast today to have an open, honest, real conversation about alcohol.  He is not sober and is not declaring sobriety today.  Over the past year Jonny and I have had many off-line conversations, raising thought provoking ideas about alcohol.  Think of today as a stream of consciousness from someone who is incredibly self-aware, emotionally intelligent and quite frankly still just has some questions about it all.
