I'M SO POPULAR

[AVAILABLE ONLY ON PATREON]

On the final installment of the Volkermord trilogy discussing art from and concerning the holocaust, the paths of the past and future converge as Jack Mason from The Perfume Nationalist slips into the muck with Chi Chi to find the faintest critical trace of meaning in the bleakest text ever written: Adolph Hitler’s MEIN KAMPF. A hurtling force sent directly from Hell reveals the true face of evil: monotony, artless rage, weakness and antipathy towards the world. What it takes to make life meaningful in the dark shadows of wrath, genocide and a fear of the unknown, censured horrors buried in history. And finally, Chi Chi and his own mother find a climax of congenital tragedy and responsibility in recalling their collective memories of SS Veteran and familial patriarch, Karl. YOU WILL SEE THE TEARS OF TIME.

The second entry in Chi Chi's VÖLKERMORD trilogy discussing the shadow of the holocaust. This week , the stars of the Evil Thespian podcast join to delve into Mishima Yukio's 1969 stage play MY FRIEND HITLER + Bob Fosse's 1971 CABARET. You start by admitting from cradle to tomb... it isn't that long a stay. It is shorter in Europe and shorter still in our recollection, it is shorter when your life accelerates at the breakneck speed of Dionysian abandon. Within the rush forward to fame and beauty and artistry and ecstasy on earth, there is an inkling of abomination, destruction and genocide. What must be done to remake the world? What does it cost? Where does one divide art from massacre? Maybe this time... maybe this time...

Recorded in the static between the wailing trains of Tokyo and the airs a midwinter Egypt, Masha joins Chi Chi to initiate his three part exploration into holocaust art, starting off with THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL by Anne Frank and Luca Guadagnino’s 2018 SUSPIRIA. Female bodies pregnant with the weight of genocide, the arrival of period blood marking the first steps into a cosmic understanding of life and death, dances ritualizing the pain of knowledge, the curse of awareness over ignorance, the power of Geminis and a dream of a chesnut tree outside the window, somewhere you can’t quite get to yet and may never get to in your short lifetime, but one you can dream of nonetheless… knowing yourself and thus knowing all things at once… a sliced up pear.
