Welcome to ManPODS - a podcast series to connect and inspire men, addressing topical issues and quashing the stigma that men shouldn't cry, men can't talk about their feelings and men won't be vulnerable - because we all need help, we all need support and you are not alone. Together we will positively impact mental health.
Dr Brett Dellar lived with depression for 30 years and to the outside world he kept it hidden. He remained high functioning while working as a police officer and a detective before heading back to University aged 40 to retrain as a Chiropractor, a job that he still loves to this day, all while living with inner pain, angst and turmoil.
Brett had counselling in his 20's and 30's which helped a little but never cleared the traumatic past of being sexually abused by a neighbour when he was only six years old. And the subsequent guilt, shame, embarrassment and blame that he had carried for many many years. It was only while training to be a life coach and taking part in a workshop specifically for men, did he get to deal with his child abuse in a manner that changed his life.
Brett is passionate about working in the area of mental health and has set up 'the moMENtum revolution'. A 2.5 days workshop for men, allowing them to look at themselves more profoundly and helping them understand why they have specific patterns or behaviours and where they may have evolved from.
Join Sue and Jo as they chat with Dr Brett about living with depression and the journey to overcome it. How to shed shame, guilt and embarrassment and turning pain into passion and purpose.
