The hunting industry would not be here today without people like Ronnie "Cuz" Strickland. As Mossy Oak's Vice President, Cuz is a true Giant that helped create what we all now know as the hunting industry. Starting out growing up in the outdoors fishing and hunting with his family, Cuz took a liking to writing and sales in sporting goods stores. His passion of hunting really paved his way to being so successful in the industry. Working for the likes of Will Primos and Toxey Haas, while becoming a self taught field producer on some of the most important hunting shows ever recorded was just the start to Cuz's incredible career that has spanned several decades and he'd probably tell you he's busier now than ever! This episode is full of some great stories about what it was like getting some of these shows made, when there was really nothing to compare it to. Cuz is truly a living legend and I think the best is yet to come!

Growing up I always dreamed of going to Australia one day. It was like looking at another world. All the fish and wildlife that lives there, the amazing landscape and of course, Mick Dundee! It is still on the top of my list to visit one day and I will go hopefully sooner, than later. A few years ago, I was flipping through Netflix and came across a show called Fishin with Mates hosted by Al McGlashan. This show was great! Amazing fishing locations across the world, great guests and just a fun show to watch. Little did I know, but a year later I would run into Al at ICAST in Florida and we struck up a great conversation and have stayed in touch ever since. Al is one of the premier photographers in the world and specializes in underwater footage. His shots have graced the covers and spreads of countless magazines over the last 20 years. Besides the photography, Al has been a leader in outdoor television in Australia and has become a true ambassador for the recreational fishermen in standing up for strong conservation management of the fisheries. I can't wait until the day I get to spend some time with Al on the water!

Thanks to Chris and Brett, my passion for the saltwater environment was pushed to another level with their show Offshore Adventures that aired for 10 seasons on ESPN with over 180 episodes. This show highlighted the vast diversity of fish, ways to catch them, incredible culinary creations and the countless unique locations and people all across the globe that the team traveled to. During the last few years of filming this show, Chris and Brett were already helping scientists with research on billfish and other pelagics swimming the ocean when the guys purchased a new vessel and realized they could do the impossible. Give access to Great White Sharks to researchers that had never been achieved before. With the transition to shark research, OCEARCH was born and Chris and Brett have never looked back. With over 30 expeditions all across the world tagging numerous sharks, multiple research projects being conducted on each tagging event, the global Shark Tracker app and an extensive STEM educational program, OCEARCH has already accomplished so much and is answering questions we thought would never be answered about the Great White sharks' biology, range and reproductive cycles.
Be sure to check out their website for more info and track the sharks in real time.

Oscar Castillo, native Texan from San Antonio, grew up like so many other kids. Fishing and playing outside, but the outdoors really sparked an interest for him and kept him wanting to spend more and more time outdoors. This has continued through today, but several years ago, he and his friends seen the need to do something for their local communities by way of fishing. Countless fishing trips across Texas, both in fresh and saltwater, sparked an idea of bringing that possibility to those that had no way of paying or getting to those far away locations. And if you've ever been to Texas, it really does take forever to get anywhere! The Fin Addict Angler Foundation was born out of this need and is one of the most active angler education non-profits in the U. S., providing multiple events across the region for families and first timers who want to learn all about fishing. Being 100% volunteer, this organization has a solid foundation in it's core members and is constantly improving and reaching more people each and every year. Be sure to check them out on their website and follow them on social media to stay up to date with all their events.

What the heck is a sawfish and why have I never seen or heard of one before? These are questions that I had the first time I ever heard of this prehistoric looking animal. Tonya Wiley didn't grow up knowing she would play such a vital role in saving sawfish, but an early introduction into the saltwater environment sparked a passion for conservation that can still be seen today even as we record this podcast. Working in the fisheries field for over 20 years, Tonya is one of the leading experts in the world on sawfish. And in this episode, you'll learn about the two species that once lived in relative abundance until commercial fishing and the absence of any real conservation measures drove one of the species to extinction and the other to be found in very limited numbers in a small area. Tonya is helping lead the way in sawfish research and helping us understand how we can save not only sawfish but other species that are being threatened even today due to lack of knowledge and regulations.
Follow Tonya and all that she is doing on her website and her social media channels to stay up to date and to find ways you can help in this research!

My first experience fishing with Chris was probably one of my best memories of being on the water. Always dreaming of hooking into a giant tarpon in Florida, he was able to make that happen on our first trip together and more recently the day before we recorded this show. Capt. Chris Camps grew up in Florida, born in Miami, the son of Cuban parents. Chris grew up on the water fishing with his family in some of the most pristine waters you can find in the country. Chris is now one of the most sought after guides in the Tampa Bay area and has been featured on numerous shows and radio programs where he is always happy to share what is working for him currently and ways to improve your fishing skills.
Be sure to check him out the next time you are in Florida and looking for an exciting day on the water chasing all kinds of saltwater species!
