Impact!

This week, we talk to Chris Katzenmeyer, Director of the Legacy Labyrinth Project, a former board member of Veriditas, and a pioneer in the field of applying intention through contemplative practice. Drawing on Chris’s rich knowledge, intuition, and experience, we receive a wonderful 101 grounding in the basics of intention, while learning about the real effects of holding intention in groups and the transcendent experience that may be felt through this work, which Chris has frequently witnessed first-hand.

Chris talks about learnings from newly published research into holding intention together that she co-authored, including a surprising outpouring of compassion for action that arose when 800 people came together globally on the same day to hold the same intention. We also discuss the challenges involved with setting intentions that come from the heart rather than head, and the energy of feeling into connection with others.

We also take a close look at the impact of Artificial Intelligence on humanity, as a need for regulation becomes high on the agenda for many governments. We consider the risks, ethical questions about allowing machines to take decisions and launch acts, and potential benefits of AI at a time that some commentators have called a new industrial revolution.

As one year draws to a close, we look back on many answered prayers and intentions, taking time to give thanks and enjoy the feeling of gratitude. We also dip into the nature of gratitude and why it’s important to practice regularly. As it’s been called, gratitude is “nature’s anti-depressant,” having a proven effect on our mood.

As we conclude our introductions, Ellen takes turns to interview Clive about his inspirations, hopes and projects, past and present. He talks about where his spiritual journey has taken him, and why he believes that many new discoveries in science serve to support rather than undermine the teachings of many faith traditions.

In the news, storms sweep across Far North Queensland, a once near-extinct species rises from the ashes, and a promising move toward peaceful transition in Niger. We also take a special look at the rapid spread of dengue fever, which the World Health Organization warns now threatens nearly half the world’s population.

News coverage starts at 48:35 (minutes:seconds into the podcast).

This week, Ellen talks about how a growing appreciation of the power of collective healing through pioneering initiatives she began or co-founded supporting prisoner rehabilitation, embracing communal labyrinth walking, and responding to global emergencies. She shares what her working with intention has taught her, and talks about her hopes for the podcast. As usual, we also cast our eyes over stories in the news drawing our attention this week as suggested topics for intercession and intention, giving special attention to the on-going war in Sudan–and a hope of a way forward toward peace. And in a week that has brought a number of heartwarming news stories to give thanks for, we reflect on the lasting impacts that can arise from the kindness of strangers.

In our very first episode, we introduce ourselves and talk about our hopes for a podcast that’s dedicated to making a difference in the world. Alongside reflecting upon news stories that have captured our attention for sending intention, prayer and healing, we talk more generally about both the science and the practice of why we believe that, together with our podcast community, we can really bring about positive change.
