  • #55 - GTFO of My Face with Carter Sandlak
The NHL has returned! 116 consecutive nights of NHL hockey starts tonight. The season starts in Philadelphia as the Flyers take on the Penguins. Then we have the Maple Leafs vs. Habs, the defending Cup champs at home to the Blackhawks. McDavid and the Oilers host Hughes and the Canucks, and to top it off, MacKinnon and the Avs take on O’Reilly and the Blues.
This episode features Carter Sandlak. Carter was a referee at the IIHF 2021 World Junior Championships and was the head ref in the Gold Medal game. You might have noticed his viral clip online. After Carter, the boys continue on about the NHL schedule, Jay Bouwmeester, Corey Crawford, Patrice Bergeron, Corey Perry, Mike Hoffman, Mat Barzal and much more!
Enjoy the 2020-21 season and follow along with us the whole way!

  • #54 - Lucky Number Seven

One more week and we will finally have NHL hockey. The start of the season is going to look odd for many different teams. The Boston Bruins will have no Zdeno Chara, as he signed in Washington. Torey Krug has gone to St. Louis, and David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand are hurt to start. The New York Islanders won’t Mathew Barzal for a bit. The Columbus Blue Jackets and Pierre-Luc Dubois are having a fallout, and Joe Pavelski & Anton Khudobin are missing Stars camp. We talk about each situation.

Another team that will look different is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Will 41-year-old Joe Thornton be able to keep up with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner? Who’s gonna get the puck for Matthews? It’s going to be interesting for Toronto next season.

The NHL also announced sponsorships for the divisions and two outdoor games that will happen in April on Lake Tahoe. Also discussed is Travis Hamonic, Jared Spurgeon, Patrik Laine & The World Juniors.

  • #53 - Two Weeks Out

The show continues from the Covid-19 bunkers. On the plus side, the NHL 2020-21 season is only two weeks away from puck-drop! With some sad and strange news regarding Jonathan Toews to start off the show, the boys send their best and try and figure out what is going on with that situation. The Chicago Blackhawks were also hit with another injury when Kirby Dach broke his wrist playing for Canada at the World Juniors. The boys relate to their past discussions about players and international duties, again.

Some big-name free agents have been signed in the past week like Corey Perry to the Montreal Canadiens, Erik Haula and Mikael Granlund to the Nashville Predators, Ethan Bear staying in Edmonton, Mike Hoffman signing a PTO, and Andreas Athanasiou signing in Los Angeles.

The North/Canadian division is setting up to be highly entertaining all season long. Maple Leafs or Canadiens? Who comes out on top in the matchups all season long? The Ottawa Senators and Pierre Dorion have been making move after move. It all started with trades to acquire guys like Derek Stepan, Cedric Paquette and Braydon Coburn and followed up with signing their top prospect, and current World Junior player for Germany, Tim Stuetzle, to his entry-level deal.

The show is followed up with our December Listener Of The Month, Adrian, and he gives us his choices for the all-time team drafts from last week!

  • #52 - Back In Action
A brand new season for the boys at FaceOff Hockey has begun. And what better way to kick it off than with an NHL return! Jan. 13 will start the 56 game sprint for Lord Stanley. Yes, it’s actually official this time. What teams will be the best suited for a short season and what teams can’t afford any hiccups? We start the discussion.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have made some noise signing Jan Rutta and Erik Cernak, but at the same time, something fishy might be going on with Nikita Kucherov and LTIR. Conor Sheary signs in Washington, Duclair signs in Florida, and there’s still a handful of quality players available.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and the meaning of what “depth” actually means were brought up. Gio went off on a rant and the boys had little to say about it, but agreed. Esteemed guest, Tomas Rickus makes his 2nd appearance and he drafts, with the boys, their all-time starting lineups in both the NBA and NHL.
A jam-packed episode with these topics and more this week as we inch closer to puck drop and the studio!

  • #51 - Cafe Disco
The show started off the rails AGAIN. The boys get into one about the cats, the studio, and the consequences. They pulled through and finally talked about some hockey. The myth about NHL players’ taxes and where they live and play was broken down. The Cafe Disco is in full effect as the NHL and the PA still continue to dance around an official announcement.
After the news of Giannis resigning in Milwaukee, Gio ranted about how this could affect the Raptors moving forward. Furthermore, it turned into a question of who would you take in your first move as a GM in the NHL. The rules got confusing but Cack and Mikey brought it back together.
What a wild one. See you in the studio next week… maybe.

  • #50 - The Half Century
One year is in the books for us and just in time. The NHL is back for next season! Word on road is that the league is set to drop the puck on January 13th and they will play 56 games. 10-day training camp and then giddy-up.
Will the Toronto Maple Leafs have the best shot at the Stanley Cup in a shortened season? Freddy can play fewer games and that could work in their favour. Any other teams you guys think would have a good shot? What about the Vegas Golden Knights? Colorado Avalanche? Either way, we can't wait.
The World Juniors will hopefully still be on, and what's the deal with advertising on jerseys? It's all on this milestone episode!

  • #49 - Forced Steal
Off to a slippery start this week (you’ll understand once you listen) but we got back on the road! (once again, you’ll get it).
Our November Listener of the month, Matt B joined the boys and they went off on the Toronto Maple Leafs and analytics. Matt is a diehard Leafs fan from Saskatchewan and was sporting an awesome Atlanta Thrashers jersey.
The boys then continued to talk about Mikhail Sergachev and his new contract with Tampa Bay. That discussion got Mikey and Gio fired up about how the Leafs seem to always get screwed over when it comes to cap hits. They also talked about Johnny Boychuk potentially being sent to Robidas Island, and who would you rather get punched by? Evander Kane, Ryan Reaves, or Robin Lehner. Someone’s answer might surprise you.

  • #48 - The Sweet Return with Annie O'Donnell
Our dear friend Annie O’Donnell @sweetannieod & @odonsports is on this week’s episode! It’s been a while since we caught up with her so you best believe we asked her about the LA Championships. We talked Lakers, Dodgers, Ducks and then did some Jersey Shore trivia.
We told you it’s not always hockey, but there was some news this week. The Chicago Blackhawks made a historic hire in their franchise, and we also try and call Gary Bettman’s bluff.

  • #47 - Reverse Retro
What the heck was the drink that the Anaheim Ducks were drinking when they decided on the design for the Adidas Reverse Retro jersey? Not to mention the New York Islanders, they just simply missed the memo on this one. All that being said, we take a look at each team’s new gitch and spit hot takes.
In real news, it’s looking clearer that the NHL makes a comeback around January 1st playing around 60 games. This will include a Canadian Division most likely and a chance for some teams in certain markets to have fans in the barn. That can start a big mess and will the NHL be ready for it?
We also announce another guest for next week and have an update on our fantasy football podcast league (we’re making a comeback!!!)

  • #46 - "What Is Episode 46" with Jim Lang
In this week’s episode, the author of Everyday Hockey Heroes Jim Lang joins the show! They talked about how these books come together, the stories within them, the state of hockey culture, and some NFL talk.
Longtime host and Canadian, Alex Trebek, had passed away over the weekend so the boys decided to play a round of NHL Jeopardy! as a tribute. Find out who walked away with it mid-round.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and Dallas Stars were also talked about this week!
