  • #35 - The Prodigal Knight
Round 2 here we go! Following the entertaining Qualifying Round and First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Round 2 has had its fair share of surprises! While the boys wrap up the cumulation of Round 1, they dive into the matchups in the following Round; what they have liked so far and what they expect to come. The Bruins, without their starting goalie in Tuukka Rask, seem to not have missed a beat and seemed to take on a Tampa Bay team without Steven Stamkos. Does the Lightning have enough depth to beat the Bruins? Was that no-goal in Game 1 for the Lightning warranted? Let's find out! What is it about the Islanders that will give the Flyers a hard time? Carter Hart had some shaky games in the previous series against the Montreal Canadiens, will he finally find his groove against New York? What other moves does Islanders' Head Coach Barry Trotz have up his sleeve? The Stars surprised many in their Game One win over the Avs but do they have what it takes to stop the Avalanche? With Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer and defenseman Erik Johnson out indefinitely, the Avs have their work cut out for them. The time for the Stars to strike is now! Well, at least one team showed up to play Game One Sunday night. After a 5-0 at the hands of the Golden Knights, the Canucks have to pick up the pace if they want to emerge as the victors in this series. Was Game 1 just a Canucks team having an off-night or is it indicative of how complete the Golden Knights' roster is?
And speaking of the Golden Knights...what to make of Allan Walsh's tweet blaming Vegas Coach Pete DeBoer for stabbing Marc-Andre Fleury in the back? Is it safe to assume Flower is a Golden Knight next season? How convincing was Fleury's performance in his press conference? Spoiler alert - he had a hard time saving that too. It seems that when Mike Milbury opens his mouth, he always seems to have to weather the storm. Whether it's thinking the CN Tower is the Seattle Space Needle, to talking about Tuukka Rask's family situation despite knowing nothing about it, to now talking about certain 'distractions' players don't have in the bubble, Mike Milbury seems to have Hockey Twitter blow up every week now. Well, he's left the bubble so hockey fans will not have to hear him for the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Washington Capitals relieved Todd Reirden of his Head Coaching duties this week after two seasons being the boss behind the bench and six with the organization. Was it deserved after the team only failed to deliver in the playoffs or are there much better options of the market despite the team finishing first in their division up until the pause of the season? The hockey community lost a legend in Dale Hawerchuk. The boys discuss "Ducky’s” place in hockey history as well as the impact he had not only in the NHL and as a player but also as a Coach for the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League. A lot to unpack in this one, you beauties. Let's go!

  • #34 - Bubble Boys
We continue to do cool things on this podcast! In this episode, we joined the LA Podcast as they attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest live stream running podcast! We talked about the Maple Leafs and their end of the year presser with Kyle Dubas, Sheldon Keefe, and Brendan Shanahan, the Horizons mission, and much more!  There was also a lot going on this week in the NHL.
Tuukka Rask leaves the bubble for family reasons? Is it the public's business as to the why? Were the Boston media and fans (in particular - Mike Milbury) too harsh on Rask?
We give an update on Claude Julien and how the Montreal Canadiens have surprised many with how well they have been playing despite being the 24th place team in these playoffs.
Nazem Kadri continues to look more and more like a Hall of Famer each and every game (it’s a running joke). The Coyotes struggled with consistency in their game.
Corey Crawford is carrying the Blackhawks' in their series against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Calgary and Dallas might come down to the wire. The Flames almost had the Dallas Stars at 3-0 but Joe Pavelski had to put the kibosh on that with a hat-trick in Game 3.
The New York Islanders potentially sweeping the Washington Capitals...WHAT?! Don't pretend you had that in your pool.
The Canucks better amp up their play or the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the St. Louis Blues, will have them going back home.
The Lightning might put an end to the Columbus Blue Jackets' feel-good story in these playoffs.
The Carolina Hurricanes are having a tough time against the Boston Bruins and in particular...the refs. Yeah, we said it! The zebras continue to turn a blind eye in this series and Rod Brind'Amour calling them out doesn't help the Hurricanes' cause.  And speaking of the Boston Bruins, what to make of Bruins' play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards' comments on the Andrei Svechnikov incident with Zdeno Chara?
Oh boy, do the boys get heated about this topic!  You don't wanna miss this and as always, Jagr salute!

  • #33 - "They're Going Home!"
The NHL Draft Lottery happened moments before the boys went to record so you get to see (or hear) the initial reactions to the news. The New York Rangers have the first overall pick and most likely will select Alexis Lafreniere. Man, talk about LETHAL but, has the lottery become a farce? The boys discuss!
The Toronto Maple Leafs played a thrilling Game 5 against the Columbus Blue Jackets only to lose 3-0. What happened? What's the excuse this year? Is John Tortorella a genius or are the Maple Leafs a team that isn't deep enough to make a strong push for the Stanley Cup? What does Kyle Dubas have to do to this team to put them in a better position to succeed? What do we make of the likes of the big four on the Leafs - Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and John Tavares? A lot of self-reflection needs to happen this off-season for the Leafs but, credit the Blue Jackets, they played a good series.
Other teams that bowed out earlier than expected - the Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. What went wrong for those teams and where do they go from here?
With the Qualifiers and Round Robins finally over, now comes the REAL PLAYOFFS!
The boys go through the matchups and give their takes on each series:
    - Montreal Canadiens vs. Philadelphia Flyers - can lightning strike twice for the Canadiens? Tell ya one thing - Carey Price will need more help than what he had in the Pittsburgh series.
    - Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Tampa Bay Lightning - how spooked are the Lightning since the last time these two faced off a year ago?
    - Washington Capitals vs. New York Islanders - Barry Trotz goes against his former club. How do the Islanders shut down a squad that has the talents of Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and John Carlson?
    - Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes - the Bruins didn't play up to their usual standards in the Round Robin. Do they turn it around against the Hurricanes who swept the Rangers?
    - Vegas Golden Knights vs. Chicago Blackhawks - Vegas torched the West in the Round Robin as Chicago was putting the Edmonton Oilers to shame. Who emerges as the victor and how much does goaltending play into this series?
    - Colorado Avalanche vs. Arizona Coyotes - Darcy Kuemper had a phenomenal series against the Nashville Predators. Does he have enough to sustain a heavy Colorado Avalanche offense that has Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen?
    - Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames - Flames played an injured Winnipeg Jets team. They will have to step their game if they want to defeat Tyler Seguin and his band of merry men.
    - Vancouver Canucks vs. St. Louis Blues - Just like the Bruins, the Blues didn't play that well in the Round Robin. Does Vancouver have it in them to expose weaknesses in the defending Stanley Cup Champions?
And to cap off a great episode, our very first Listener of the Month joins us - Tomas Rickus! He lends his knowledge on how the Toronto Raptors are the epitome of how a great organization should run and asks the boys why the Maple Leafs struggle? Tomas, not just a basketball fan, gives us his perspective on the Maple Leafs and their continuous downfall.

  • #32 - It's Good To Be Back
Well, how's THAT for week one of the Stanley Cup Qualifiers?! Already tons of stories and drama coming out of this past week and you bet your hockey-loving butt we are going to discuss it. Where do we begin?!
UNBELEAFABLE! The Toronto Maple Leafs lay a gigantic goose egg in game one against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Where do the Leafs go from here if they can't counter the tight defense and dependable goaltending that John Tortorella commands? (also, him in that fleece turtleneck...zaddy).
WHAT ARE YOU DROUIN?! Carey Price's play is making the boys eat their words so far in the Montreal Canadiens' series against the Pittsburgh Penguins DESPITE the horrific play of Jonathan Drouin, Ben Chiarot, and Xavier Ouellet. Sidney Crosby took charge in Game Two and evened the series for the Pens. Ryan Suzuki as well as Jesperi Kotkaniemi have been impressive for the Habs. Will this go the distance?
CONNOR MCJESUS RETURNS! After a Game One loss to the Chicago Blackhawks (in which Dominik Kubalik scored a record 5 points in an NHL debut for a rookie), Connor McDavid takes the reigns as he nets a hatty in the second game of the series. Can Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane right the ship for the 'Hawks? Tell you one thing Oilers' fans - just keep Mike Smith away from the net, his impressive playoff performances over the years appear likely over.
FLAMING JETS! The Winnipeg Jets and the Calgary Flames are making exciting hockey despite big names missing from the series. Was Paul Maurice accurate in his statement that Matthew Tkachuk's hit on Mark Scheifele was suspendable? No, but we discuss the hit, as well as what on earth, is going on with Patrik Laine?
VANCOUVER MILD?! Um...what? It wasn't supposed to be this way. Alex Stalock taking over for Devan Dubnyk was predicted but coming in the clutch with a Minnesota Wild team that was explosive was not, limiting the Vancouver Canucks to just a mere 4 shots in the third period of Game One. Are the Canucks in trouble?
RANGERS CAN'T SEEM TO WEATHER THE STORM! Or can they? Down 0-2 in their series against the Carolina Hurricanes, the New York Rangers need as much help as they can get if they want to take this series. There's the Justin Williams/Ryan Strome fight in Game One, the Andrei Svechnikov hat-trick in Game Two, but what of Igor Shestyorkin? Is Henrik Lundqvist the solution for Game 3? Is this how the Cinderella season will end for the New York Rangers?.... Probably, Carolina is just too good right now.
YOU'RE ALMOST VOTED OFF THE ISLAND! The New York Islanders have the Florida Panthers up against the wall, up 2-0 in the series. The Florida Panthers are not doing well and it isn't because Sergei Bobrovsky is playing terrible.
THE PREDATORS BECOME THE PREY...in Game One! The Nashville Predators surprisingly went with Jusse Saros in net and despite being up 3-0, they lost to the Arizona Coyotes with a 40-save performance from Darcy Kuemper. Can he keep it going?
And speaking of the Coyotes, we get to the bottom of the John Chayka situation, the finer details and just who is the mystery team that is pulling the strings. We also have a WRITERS WAR between James Mirtle of The Athletic and Steve Simmons of The Toronto Sun duking it out on Twitter.

  • #31 - 3 Days Out with Annie O'Donnell
Are. You. In?! We are THREE days away from hockey coming back and the boys could not be more excited! The wait is almost over!
With the good news, there is also unsettling news in the form of John Chayka and his departure from the Arizona Coyotes. There seems to be a lot of mystery where that is concerned and the boys try to make some sense of it.
Also big news this week - The Seattle Kraken unveiled their name, logo, and jerseys. What's a hit, what's a miss? Let the debates resume!
And last but not least we once again have a great guest, Annie O'Donnell of the OD on Sports Podcast, for our Eastern Conference Qualifying Round previews.
Get ready to dissect the Maple Leafs vs Blue Jackets - will John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and company, overpower the defensive squad led by Nick Foligno, Cam Atkinson, and Seth Jones?
Will the Montreal Canadiens led by Carey Price, Brendan Gallagher, and Tomas Tatar hold their own against Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins?
Who is going to stop the hot train that is the New York Rangers? Will it be the Carolina Hurricanes? Will these 'bunch of jerks' be able to maintain the hot hands of Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad?
And last we have the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. Such a toss up? Does Bobrovsky play and if so, can he bring the Panthers out from the bottom against a team that has impressive young talent like Mathew Barzal, Anders Lee, and Noah Dobson?
Enjoy this analytic, and very funny hour. We are excited that hockey is coming back and we hope you are too!
This episode is dedicated to the life of Eddie Shack. Glue guy in and out. We salute you, good sir! Rest In Peace.

  • #30 - 10 Days Out
WE ARE TEN DAYS AWAY! In the words of Bob Cole "Oh baby!".
So much hockey talk in this episode! Remember those days when we just TALKED HOCKEY?!
The boys are jacked and ready to go - starting with the NHL's broadcast schedule on August 1st. New York Rangers' Brendan Lemieux gets hit with a two game suspension to start the qualifying round. Taylor Hall in IN TALKS  with Coyotes' ownership...without team General Manager John Chayka?... something seems off there.
The boys dissect and predict the winners of each series in the Western Conference qualifying round.
Who is expected to beat who in a best of five series between the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators and Arizona Coyotes, and last but not least, Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks?
It's also AWARDS SZN - the trio also debate and predict winners for the Hart Trophy (Leon Draisaitl , Artemi Panarin, and Nathan MacKinnon), Vezina Trophy (Connor Hellebuyck, Andrei Vasilevsky, and Tuukka Rask), Lady Byng Award (Auston Matthews, Ryan O'Reilly, and Nathan MacKinnon), Bill Masterson Award (Oskar Lindblom, Stephen Johns, and Bobby Ryan), Jack Adams Award (John Tortorella, Alain Vigneault, and Bruce Cassidy), Calder Trophy (Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar, and Dominik Kubalik), Norris Trophy (John Carlson, Victor Hedman, and Roman Josi), and the Selke Trophy (Patrice Bergeron, Sean Couturier, and Ryan O'Reilly).
It all goes down August 1st - are you ready?

  • #29 - Big Science
    HOCKEY IS COMING BACK!!!
That means Cack is getting closer to losing the bet! He is super not excited about that part but wow, what an episode we got for you!
Phase 3 is set to commence with NHL teams having training camps in their own cities. However, there are still players opting out of the NHL's Return To Play. Mike Green, Roman Polak, Karl Alzner, and Travis Hamonic among them.
Lindy Ruff is named as the New Jersey Devils' new Head Coach as well as Minnesota Wild's Dean Evason no longer being the interim Head Coach and will stick with the club.
While it is exciting to have hockey back, there still has to be a lot of concern these next two weeks. Max Domi of the Montreal Canadiens is going to take 7-10 days to decide whether or not he will join his team in Toronto. Is this a slow burn for him not taking part in the Return to Play format because he is a diabetic? There many questions still unanswered.
The players' concern about the public not having access to the names of players and staff testing positive for COVID-19 is an intriguing one but what happens if the virus cannot be contained? What would the NHL's plan be of teams have to leave because too many players and staff have it? Can the bubble even work? The boys discuss and debate.
The Chicago Blackhawks put out a statement why they will not be changing their name. The boys talk about the historical significance of the name and logo of the Chicago Blackhawks and why they support them in this decision.
The NHL is also coming back to the Olympics! So that's fun! We can't wait for 2022 and 2026 and we know you can't either!
This riveting episode is jammed pack with content and ACTUAL INSIDER information. You will want to tune in as a few bombs get dropped like the NHL's television schedule for the round robin!

  • #28 - with Ben Fanelli
Another episode, another great guest! Ben Fanelli, former Kitchener Rangers Captain, becomes an official friend of the show. Ben joined the boys to talk about his venture, Heroic Minds. It is an organization that takes science, philosophy, and ancient wisdom and applies them into the modern day context so you can live a better, higher performing life.
But, before the boys chatted with Ben, the NHL released their Phase 3 and Phase 4 outline of their Return to Play as well as the CBA Outline. 20,000 tests for the first ten days league wide. 52 members from each organization are allowed in the 'bubble’. But, can people go in and out of the bubble? Big, spicy meatballs for sure. Do the boys think it's going to pan out?
The boys are then graced by Ben's presence. Ben also speaks to the benefits of Yoga, his relationships with coaches in Waterloo, as well as his relationship with Steve Spott (then coach of the Kitchener Rangers). Ben also talks about the significance of the advice that Mike Van Ryn (former NHLer) gave him about pursuing goals post-hockey career.
The trio then return to discuss the NHL's 'Integrity of Play' aspect in the RTP plan and Oskar Lindblom being cancer-free! A lot of discussions and debates, but one thing's for sure - hockey is coming back one way or another!

  • #27 - Happy Canada D'EH
Happy Canada Day! Today's special episode would have been completely dedicated to Canadian hockey achievements if it were not for all the news coming out of the NHL this week.
To kick off the episode, it was Cack's birthday! He fills us in on how he spent the day and of course, he had a hockey card draft with around 300 cards. He shows the boys his favourite, as well as a relic from the ‘91-‘92 season!
This year's Hockey Hall of Fame class was a good one. However, there were a few blemishes. Jarome Iginla, no doubt a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Marian Hossa? Maybe. Doug Wilson, about time. Kim St. Pierre, first female goalie inducted, yup. Ken Holland, I guess? Kevin Lowe? There were a few that think maybe and there are many that say no. Find out what the guys had to say on that controversial pick!
Speaking of controversy, the NHL Draft Lottery took place and being on brand with the National Hockey League, of course it ends with a placeholder team securing the number one overall pick. But don't worry though, Gary Bettman reads The New York Times.
26 NHL players (so far) have tested positive for COVID-19. Hub Cities are still being debated. The NHLPA and NHL might now want to cancel their plans to return because of the CBA...oh boy, talk about a spicy meatball!
Then the guys finally get around to their favourite Canadian hockey moments. From the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, many World Junior moments, to the 1972 Summit Series and 1987 Canada Cup, the boys relive it all and Mikey and the Cack FaceOff in a game of FaceUp!
Some major announcements to end the episode off. An interview with former Kitchener Ranger and Captain, Ben Fanelli and the introduction of 'Listener of the Month' where YOU can join US in some puck talk!
Get pucks deep and have a Happy Canada D’EH!
