On May 15th 2014, Rabbi Sacks received The Canterbury Medal, the highest honour awarded by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, America's leading religious liberty law firm.
In his keynote speech upon accepting the award in New York, Rabbi Sacks delivered an impassioned a passionate defence of religious liberty, explaining why it was not just important to American society, but to the world.
He called on people of all faith "to come together in the knowledge that we are free to live our deepest convictions in harmony and a spirit of mutual respect. This enriches the heritage of humankind and has made this world a little freer, allowing each of us, in our own way, to light up the public square with the candle and the flame of faith.”
