The Workamper Show Podcast

In Episode 262, Shannon Snyder talks about Workamping at Hersheypark Camping Resort

Listen Later

Today I will be interviewing a woman who works at the “sweetest place on earth,” which is Hershey, Pa. She is looking for help at a rather large camping resort.

Shannon Snyder is the property manager for the Hersheypark Camping Resort. The 55-acre facility boasts of 300 RV sites, 50 cabins, one tiny home and a lot of amenities for guests to enjoy.

She would like to hire between 15 and 20 Workampers to help at the resort this coming summer. They typically start work in March and continue through December, but the minimum requirement is to work from mid-May until mid-September.

The jobs are paid positions and come with a free full-hookup RV site as well as access to all the resort’s amenities.

The campground has been around since 1963, but has grown considerably over the years. Located just down the road from the Hersheypark amusement park, the campground is busy throughout the year. It is part of a large entertainment complex that includes a stadium and indoor arena as well as a popular tourist attraction called Hershey’s Chocolate World.

Workampers at the camping resort put in 40 hours a week during peak season and 16 to 32 hours a week during shoulder seasons. They are typically hired to help with housekeeping tasks, light maintenance and caring for the grounds by picking up trash and cleaning bath houses. All the jobs start at $10 per hour.

Shannon is looking for positive, outgoing people with some customer service experience, but that is not required. She likes to hire people who are self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a team.

Workampers need to be over 18 and have a valid driver’s license. They should also have a positive attitude, be eager to learn, friendly, upbeat and interact well with guests and other team members.

There are plenty of things to do in that part of Pennsylvania. Hershey is located an hour from Gettysburg, about 90 minutes from Valley Forge and two hours from Philadelphia as well as three hours from New York City and Washington, D.C. Hershey isn’t too far from Amish country, where people can enjoy some delicious homemade food and buy handcrafted items.

To apply, Workampers can visit www.hersheyjobs.com and fill out an application. Once that is received, Workampers are scheduled for a 30- to 45-minute phone interview. If it looks like a good fit, a contract is extended. People who work between May 13 and September 15 will receive a $200 bonus.

Shannon is hiring right now for jobs this summer. So get the ball rolling today by visiting www.hersheyjobs.com.
