Most people when asked will quickly respond yes...to the question, are you a good person? But, that response can only come from a comparison to someone that they perceive as less than themselves. An appropriate measurement of ourselves reveals that the exact opposite is true. Our hearts are desperately wicked beyond our comprehension.

While Pastor JD will certainly share with us that God can and DOES use this method to reach the lost...we need to be sure on an individual basis whether that outward act was as a result of an inward change.

Pastor JD begins sharing with us the many reasons that Christians don't study their Bibles. And sadly one of the biggest culprits is the lack of desire for change. You see when we encounter God's Word, we will be changed. And many people don't want their sinful lifestyles challenged and so they simply avoid the Bible.

Bob Hoekstra once said...the Law is the what and grace is the how. You see when we look into the perfection of God's Word which we know is Jesus, we see our utter failure. Our need becomes so crystal clear. We need Jesus in our lives to forgive us for how far we've fallen short AND cause us to walk in the ways of the Word.

The comfortable Christian can easily hide. They come in every Sunday and shake everyone's hand, sing a few songs, throw a few dollars in the collection plate...week after week...nothing changes. Why? Because the comfortable Christian doesn't apply God's Word for fear that their faults will be revealed rather than trusting that God exposes only what He intends on removing.
