  • #78 You Can Be Healed with Dr. Bob Schuchts

In this episode of "Catholic Moms in the Middle," Jennie welcomes Dr. Bob Schuchts to share about his ministry, the John Paul II Healing Center and to discuss healing. Healing from God can occur physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Many people tend to believe that healing is not possible for them due to various circumstances or that it only happens to others. Jennie and Dr. Schuchts discuss the main reasons people doubt or resist God’s healing in their lives.

In his book, Be Healed, Dr Schuchts begins by asking “Do you want to be healed?” This question refers to the man who sat by the healing pool for years. Jesus asked him if he wanted to be healed, which is a question we should each ask of our own needs and brokenness. Many times desiring healing and being open to the actual healing are two different things. One of the biggest obstacles to healing is shame and unworthiness. Inner healing may occur by peeling back layers of lies, sin and wounds to discover your true identity in Christ. Years of pain and suffering can be healed by revealing and releasing the lies of the Enemy.

In the show, Jennie and Dr. Schuchts discuss different types of trauma and how they can impact each person. Their conversation highlights the importance of recognizing trauma and wounds in your life, emphasizing that trauma can emerge from both absence (Type A trauma) and negative experiences (Type B trauma). The two discuss shame, unworthiness, and how these emotions can affect your sense of identity. Dr. Bob stresses the significance of facing these emotions, seeking their roots, and inviting the Holy Spirit to bring healing and transformation.

Dr. Schuchts touches on the upcoming "Healing the Whole Person" retreats and "Day of Equipping" events organized by the JP II Healing Center. These events offer opportunities to explore and experience God’s healing in various areas of their life.

  • #77 A Family's Journey Through Grief with Paul and Teresa Davis

In this heartfelt conversation, Paul and Teresa Davis share their poignant journey of grief after losing their son, Kevin. They describes Kevin's vibrant personality and the close bond he shared with his older brother, Phillip. Tragically, during Kevin's junior year in college, he passed away in an accident while on spring break. The news devastated the community, and the Davises were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends, family, as well as their church and school communities.

The community's love and kindness became a source of comfort during their darkest moments. Schools, churches, and friends offered prayers, held gatherings, and even organized events in Kevin's honor. Paul and Teresa were touched by the stories of how Kevin had impacted others' lives and the numerous "Kevin Cents" they received, confirming his continued presence in their lives. They found solace in their faith, holding onto the belief that they will be reunited with Kevin one day.

While grief brought moments of anger and questioning, their faith ultimately guided them toward acceptance and gratitude. The couple channeled their grief into positive actions, establishing an endowed scholarship and a "Raise Your Glass" event in Kevin's memory. The scholarship has helped numerous students in need, fostering a sense of joy and fulfillment in the Davis family, knowing Kevin's legacy continues to touch lives.

The Davis family's story emphasizes the power of a faith-filled community and how it can provide unwavering support during times of grief. By cherishing memories, embracing grief, and finding strength in faith, Paul and Teresa demonstrate the transformational power of love and resilience in the face of loss.

  • #75 Magnificat with Rosemary Geiger

Rosemary Geiger, joined Jennie as a guest on the Catholic Moms in the Middle podcast. She shared about her involvement in a ministry called Magnificat. Magnificat is a ministry for women that offers encouragement and support through the Holy Spirit. Rosemary has been involved in Magnificat for over 30 years. Her first encounter with Magnificat occurred when she attended a meal in San Diego, where she was deeply touched by the personal testimonies of the speaker. As the speaker shared their story Mary had a mystical experience with the Blessed Mother. This inspired her to share her faith which led to her starting her own Magnificat chapter in North San Diego.

Leaving behind her friends and family in California was difficult for Rose Mary, but her spiritual advisor encouraged her to “step out of the boat” and go where God was calling. When Rosemary moved to Nashville, she initially found out that another Magnificat chapter was already being formed. Even though she was disappointed, she immersed herself in her parish's women's ministry and organized events like retreats and prayer breakfasts. During this time, she also discovered another ministry, The Seven Sisters Apostolate, which focuses on praying for priests. Rose Mary jumped into this ministry and has a team of over 400 women praying for the priests around the diocese of Nashville today.

In the show, Rosemary emphasizes the transformative power of the Magnificat Ministry and how it brings women together, providing a sense of community, support, and understanding. The meals include praise and worship, personal testimonies, and hands-on prayer. The ministry encourages women to use their gifts and talents to contribute, whether through prayer, decorating, greeting, or other forms of service.

Rosemary spoke of the impact Magnificat has had on women's lives, including providing hope, healing, and a sense of belonging. The testimonies shared during the meals help women realize they are not alone in their struggles and that others have faced similar challenges. The ministry has also played a role in facilitating conversions and supporting women who have experienced hardships like abortion.

Rosemary highlighted the upcoming Magnificat meal in Nashville, featuring Father Don Calloway and subsequent meals with speakers like Judy Zeldin, Christine Watkins, and Bishop Mark Spaulding.

  • #74 Stop Lying!

We can choose to listen to lies or we can turn our ears to the truths of God.

Jesus identified Satan as “the father” of lies. Satan’s job is to make you doubt God’s goodness.  Any type of lying or misleading is in opposition to God. God is goodness, purity and truth. Lying exaggerates and twists the truth, damaging relationships, creating uncertainty, self-doubt and unworthiness. You only have to look at the first book in the bible to see that a lie of deception is the first lie recorded. Satan, as the serpent, deceived Eve by telling her that God was lying and hiding something from her. In Genesis we read, “Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that on the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil’”

So, what are the lies that you might believe? The lies that are subtle or so common that they seem like the truth? We are going to look at three of them. Listen to this week's podcast to learn more about the lies you often tell yourself!

  • #72 Stop Being Perfect

In this podcast, Catholic Moms in the Middle Coach, Jennie Guinn, helps you to understand perfectionism. Recognizing signs of perfectionism is the first step. The goal is not to get rid of it because perfectionism can serve you. It could be a special quality to help you live your unique purpose. Being aware of when perfectionism is holding you back through procrastination, all or nothing thinking or comparing and despair will allow you to redirect your thoughts and actions so that you don’t stay stuck in beating yourself up. You can do this by embracing gratitude, practicing self-compassion, and acknowledging your own strengths and accomplishments to help combat the negative effects of comparison and foster a healthier perspective.

Romans 15 says, Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. – Romans 15:7

Listen this week to see if you tend to be a perfectionist...you just might be surprised.
