Several companies in the sweetened beverages industry are concerned that the proposed tax on sweetened beverages will lead to job losses. The National Treasury published a policy paper last month proposing a 20 percent tax on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) to take effect in April 2017. Companies such as Coca Cola, Twizza and Refreshhh held a press briefing in Port Elizabeth where they highlighted the impact this proposed tax will have.
