Tomaquag museum and the Cocumscussoc Association partnered to present “Heritage days” a two day educational event demonstrating native american and colonial cultures. The location for this event was the historic Smith’s Castle located in North Kingstown Rhode Island.

This was a good opportunity to demonstrate the mission of Tomaquag Museum, which is to educate the public and promote thoughtful dialogue regarding Indigenous history, culture, arts.

The Cocumscussoc Association mission is to focus on teaching people the history of Rhode Island's development through three eras: Native American days, early colonial days, and the plantation era.

Robert Peters is a Mashpee Wampanoag artist, writer, poet and the artist/author.In 2007 Robert decided to create a 2015 calendar called "Thirteen Moons. (available now) He has painted it on twelve acrylic canvases for the project.

Accompanying the Calendar is poetry, essays and thoughts - written by Robert over a span of twenty years entitled, "A Meditation on Indigenous Life. Robert created "Thirteen Moons" and "A Meditation on Indigenous Life" to be shared throughout the 2015 calendar year.

The indigenous Artways Podcast presents “Stories and songs”. This two part series features the indigenous talent of two Flute players, and two story tellers. These episodes were shot on the historic Smith’s Castle property in Rhode Island during the educational event called “Heritage Days”,which showcased both Indigenous and colonial living, as well as demonstrations from those eras.

Part Two features Delos Tate, a young Narragansett man opening with a soft moving flute piece and and Thawn Harris, Narragansett artist and storyteller who introduces us to the story of why turtles do not fly south for the winter.
