Here in the month of April, The indigenous Artways podcast will feature a 3 part series entitled “Gifts of Inspiration”.  Featured are three stories told and shared by Narragansett tribal elder, Paulla Dove Jennings which she recites from memories of her own life.  Jennings is a renowned story teller, who has performed as a storyteller at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. as well as many other parts of Indian country. 

Episode 1, “”The Last Hunt” Paulla Jennings recites a experience from her life as a young girl in a lesson she learned by her father about the importances of sharing.

"How Birds got their song" is an animated Narragansett childrens story which is about how the creator gave the gift of song to the birds of the forrest.  This wonderful story, narrated by Tomaquag Museum's executive director, Lorén Spears, also features animated drawings and paintings made by  tribal children who attended the Nuweetooun native american School in Rhode Island.

She is an author, an oral  historian, and a curator for the Tomaquag Museum.  She was a featured storyteller at the grand opening of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in 2004.

Welcome to our podcast series, "Giving Thanks & Telling Our Stories”.  This is  collection of four stories told by well known Narragansett Storytellers, including nationally acclaimed storyteller and writer, Paulla Dove Jennings. 

This series delves into the art of  Native American storytelling and it's cultural significance and meaning to the Narragansett Indigenous people. The stories in this series are family oriented, and entertaining.  They are told in a style to educate the viewer about nature and the importance of natural balance in life. Some of these stories are also accompanied by wonderful illustrations drawn by the series producer, Jerred "Swift Cloud" Best.

In this first Episode, Narragansett story teller Thawn Harris shares the tale of the Sun, and the adventures of how earth animals were responsible for bringing  light to the world.   

Each series episode releases on Sunday beginning on February 22nd.  You can get each episode weekly by subscribing to our podcast, which will enable your mobile device, or desktop computer to automatically download each episode as it becomes available.
