When I left working for the mainstream to start Indigenuity - my practise for connecting more Māori families to their own homes - I had to design my own workplace. Tikanga that allowed me to thrive. As I've matured in year 7 of business, I'm now able to extend this approach to my clients. I hope I honour you.
I was able to decolonise and then design my systems according to what made sense to me. My talk today is more about how I experience anxiety, in the past depression, overwhelm and anger when I am consistently in environments that are hard work for me.
I try to offer my professional services from a place of empathy, on the idea that my neurodiversity is more common than it is made out.
I also believe in neuroplasticity, able to build new neuro pathways (in the brain) from consistent practise.
"Neurodiversity is a term used to describe neurological differences in the human brain. In other words, we are all wired differently, and our natural differences can have a direct impact on how we think and learn." source Auckland university website.---
