In this episode we will we will be hearing about the introduction to the book of Revelation
What comes to your mind when you hear about the book of Revelation? Is it an unhealthy obsession with the so-called “end-time events”? Or maybe it is the fear that the book has weird images which are not relevant for us today? Maybe for you the book is scary. Or could it be the discouragement not to read it because of the many controversies and differing views about the book? Through these devotional series, we will discover that the book of Revelation is one of the most encouraging and hope-inspiring book for us believers. Just like the rest of the Scriptures, Revelation is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that we may all be equipped for every good work as 2 Timothy 3:16 – 17 would remind us.
The book of Revelation was written by the Apostle John, the same Apostle who wrote the Gospel of John, while he was a prisoner on the island of Patmos. This book is a mix of three types of writing: it's revelation, a prophecy, and a letter. To understand it, people have come up with four main ideas: Preterist, Futurist, Historicist, and Idealistic. These ideas explain the events in Revelation in different ways, either as past, future, or ongoing events in history.
We will focus on the Idealistic view, which sees Revelation as full of symbols. This view believes the book describes the ongoing struggle between good and evil throughout the church's history, leading up to Jesus's return and the final judgment. We'll look at the book in seven parts, where each part tells the same story of this struggle, but with different symbols and details, giving us a clearer picture of the end times as we go along.
