Leading the podcast this week, we have Intelligence Fusion's Senior Regional Analysts. The team take a closer look at insurgencies across the globe, including what makes an insurgency successful, and in comparison, why some can fail.Â
We also assess the activity, tactics and ideologies behind various insurgency groups from each region and the key defining factors that contribute to failing insurgencies versus more successful militant groups across the globe. Â

The United States is currently in the midst of one of the most turbulent years in recent history.Â
A global pandemic, societal upheaval and escalating political polarisation ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Amongst other areas, our Regional Intelligence Analyst Matt Pratten, reports on the security situation in the United States and has been closely monitoring the social unrest and building tension across the country in recent weeks.Â
In one of our latest episodes of Insight Weekly, Matt referred to a development amongst the law enforcement of multiple US states called the Blue Flu. And ahead of the 4th July, he discusses the potential impact of this in more detail.Â
Weâll continue to monitor this development in the lead up to Independence Day and of course, throughout the holiday weekend itself. Weâll be posting regular updates across our social media channels, which you can follow here:

In the wake of George Floydâs death, countries around the world are starting to take a more detailed look at their colonial past, in order to understand further the injustices created through imperial expansion.Â
However, in Hong Kong, the last major colony to gain independence from Britain, liberal and pro-Democracy protesters can sometimes be seen flying the colonial-era flag as they demonstrate against the central Chinese government. Â
Intelligence Fusionâs Regional Analyst, Chris Bowe, provides you with a brief introduction to the history of sovereignty in Hong Kong, explain some of the causes of the protests in the last year, and detail what he thinks we can expect to see in the future in Hong Kong and around the world as more countries became concerned about the future of the territory.Â

The ELN, or National Liberation Army in English, are a left-wing armed group from Colombia who were founded in the early 1960s while the country was coming out of a ten-year civil war known as La Violencia.
The group has been involved since then in whatâs known as the Colombian Conflict, which is an asymmetric conflict between the Government, right-wing paramilitary groups, left-wing armed groups, and other organised crime actors, all vying to increase their influence in the areas they control, in order to impose their ideologies, but primarily as a means to conduct their illicit activities.
In the latest Intelligence Fusion podcast, our Senior Regional Analyst for the America, Vincent Fevrier, gives us a brief history lesson on the guerrilla group, analyses their activity throughout 2019 and uses it as a basis to provide his outlook on the ELN in Colombia in 2020.

The Northern Ireland conflict between 1969-1998 is euphemistically called The Troubles. However, this belies its importance as the longest continuous-deployment of security forces in British military history and a casualty rate of 3,532 deaths and approximately 50,000 injured. Â
The Troubles is often mistaken for a religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, however, at the heart of The Troubles is a violent political debate.Â
Intelligence Fusion's Regional Analyst, Scott MacDonald, give us a brief history lesson surrounding the conflict in Northern Ireland, an insightful timeline of activity and providing recent examples of IED bombings, extrajudicial beatings as punishment and the continuation of threats and intimidation from paramilitary groups.Â
Our 10-minute podcast concludes with Scott providing his interpretation of the conflict in 2020 and his assessment for the future.Â
