Cal speaks around the world on a variety of topics related to integrative medicine, emotional self-care for practitioners and the mechanics and politics of introducing massage therapy into clinical settings.

They* have been participating in research, teaching and developing curriculum for massage therapy courses focused on hospital-based practice, oncology massage and end of life care since 2007. Cal is passionate about elevating the profession of massage therapy and also about broader and more seamless integration of massage therapists into mainstream healthcare.

Isabella Carr is a writer, theologian, and deathworker specializing in end-of-life care, education, and advocacy for deviant bodies. Isabella is currently a graduate student at Harvard Divinity School and studied under Death Doula LA. Her doula and research focus is a material and theological project called Deathfat: Fat Funerals and Futurities. As a doula, Isabella focuses on providing clear and compassionate care to ensure fat people are able to access the best care possible. Isabella graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in religion and wrote her thesis on fat sexuality and religion. She has spent much of her professional career working with marginalized communities and is dedicated to accessibility and autonomy in life and death.

Will’s life’s work can be summed up with one simple phrase: Propelling people’s growth to produce meaningful new outcomes. Nothing energizes him like helping someone clarify a problem and find their way to solving it.

He’s fulfilled this calling on a human-to-human level as a teacher, trainer, coach, and father. At the systems level, he’s served as a president, CFO, strategist, and founder. Will says his greatest strength is as a generalist. “I am highly adaptable and listen carefully to help people get their arms around a challenge, break it into bite-size pieces, then set to work with courage and a good plan,” he explained.

As a preacher’s kid, Will grew up in a household where our inevitable death was a regular conversation topic, so planning for it was a no-brainer. Since the subject is so comfortable for him, he can bring a down-to-earth, straightforward approach to his work with clients and end of life educators.

Will’s mission is to recenter the larger cultural conversation around death to make it more pragmatic, and something we prepared for in advance like other major life events. “When it comes to end of life education and planning, the need is great, but follow-through is sparse,” he said. “Clients count on me to bring my compassionate side as a strong listener, as well as my detail-oriented, strategic side to get the job done.”

Dr. Marisa Allison graduated with her Ph.D. in Public and Applied Sociology from George Mason University in December 2022. While working on her doctoral degree, Marisa served as the Research Director with the New Faculty Majority Foundation, a grassroots research and advocacy non-profit focused on improving the working conditions for contingent faculty in higher education. With a strong commitment to organic public sociology, action research, and liberatory higher education, Marisa entered into the emerging field of critical university studies after several years in the higher education movement arena where her scholarship and activism has focused on academic labor conditions, gendered work, student debt, and corporate influence in higher education. About Our Guest: 
Business Owner, Educator, Massage Therapist, Scuba Diver, Grandma Su Bibik is Founder & CEO of Institute for Massage Education, previously an aspect of Kalamazoo Center for the Healing Arts (KCHA). Su and her husband began the Center in 1986 out of their home. It quickly grew to meet the demands for professional, effective massage therapy and alternative modalities. Su’s background teaching math in high school and college naturally led to creating a program to train massage therapists. She has an uncanny ability to convey otherwise difficult information in a fun and meaningful fashion. Most recently she completed her certification training and is a Certified Open Water Scuba Diver and did her first dive trip to Dominica to celebrate her 70th Birthday.
